The latest console tech put out by both companies has MS with the far more effective, and quiet, cooling system.
Do you think the people who designed the 360 (which was a far better designed system than PS3) are now doing the XSX? Or do you think the guys who did the one X are more likely to be doing it?

Because if that is Shader Engine then it needs 2 for 36CUs... 4 Shader Engine put you at 80 max CUs.
Edit - They changed the Shader Array in RDNA.... now it has 2 Shader Array per Shader Engine... in GCN it was 1 to 1.

Personally hope they go with 18Gbps chips (Samsung's 2GB chips are at that amount); would give around 576 GB/s bandwidth on a 256-bit bus.
If they can't do that, at least 16Gbps chips for 512 GB/s. 448 GB/s bandwidth with 14Gbps chips just feels a tad low, but I guess we'll see. RAM amount and Gbps are two things that can actually be altered this late in the game, up to a limit (if Sony really wanted to they could cram 32GB with 16x 2GB chips in clamshell mode, although that'd be crazy expensive and they'd still have to alter the memory controller and cooling solution anyway (let alone probably need a bigger motherboard or a more complicated one to put the other half of the chips on the underside).
Likewise I hope XSX is going with 18Gbps chips; that could give them 720 GB/s on a 320-bit bus or (if they're using a 384-bit bus) 864 GB/s. But given the extra cost they have to pay over Sony for needing more memory chips they'd probably settle for 16Gbps chips as the upper limit, or 768 GB/s upper limit bandwidth (if 384-bit bus).
With them going 40 CUs and all active, I think they might cut the GPU frequency off at around 1970-1975MHz. For between 10.08TF - 10.11TF.
They just better have a damn good cooling solution and build quality.

I would like to say and directly (no riddles) the newest information I got was that both of these systems are Close, Close enough to be twins just not identical. The biggest differences will be custom features and things like playing PS4 games with no load times or terrain pop in. Have to admit my tech knowledge is baffled at how the SSD will remove terrain pop in but I cannot wait to see it.

From what I understand pop in happens when the HDD can’t supply the RAM fast enough to GPU use the data.
Just the use of SSD basically kills it at least decrescesse a lot pop in.

No matter what I assume the chips are down clocked a little. With these being 7 year devices both should go with the faster ram. The prices will go and saving I doubt be much in a couple of years when the bulk of the sales come.

Can you give some reasoning/guesses into some of the rumors XSX will be closer to 11.4-11.5 TF? I've thought about it myself and the only explaination would be them being overly conservative. The clock would be as low as around 1600MHz, either that or they're disabling more than 4 CUs (maybe upwards 8CUs).
Both of those don't add up given the system itself looks like it should be able to cool a GPU clocked higher than 1600MHz sufficiently. But maybe that's just me :S
Interesting. I thought chip frequency wouldn't affect the bandwidth, i.e the bandwidth per pin is a fixed spec. I remember doing bandwidth calculations a while ago factoring in the RAM speed and wondering why my bandwidth totals were off. Well that was the reason. But RAM speed does affect the GPU's effective memory clock which affects the TF performance, is that perhaps what you're referring to?

5 > Red as far as I am told nothing has changed. I have heard that there is MUCH more wiggle room with clock speeds on the MS side so all of that issues with cooling, don't believe that shit at all.

Just because you can raise clock speeds doesn't mean that you should. Also it would probably be best to release conservative see what happens when millions of consoles are in peoples homes then raise clock speeds if needed through firmware patches. No one wants another RROD situation.
Never understood posts like this, Check the old PC pictures threads. I game on PC also have been playing games at native 4k /60fps for years now. I still love consoles.

Probably don't want to even take a chance at a repeat of the RROD. The one S had a huge box with big cooler. Same with the series X they are gun shy as hell after a billion dollar bath.

We also don't know how efficient their cooling setup actually is. Sure it's big, but what is the TDP? And how hot does it get? They do want the system to remain quiet after all. There's a bunch of factors why upclocking to beat PS5 may not be worth it for them.
