This is all I could find, it's just a rumor

AMD is claiming that RDNA 2 will offer up to 50% better performance than RDNA 1 cards for the same power consumption, according to sources close to RedGamingTech (RGT). Like NVIDIA has done, with RGT using the architectural and clock speed improvements that NVIDIA made when developing the GTX 580 and GTX 1080 as examples, AMD's work to optimise its cards from the bottom up will start paying dividends as of RDNA 2.

Assuming on low end RDNA2 is a 30% improvement over GCN, the difference would be 450GF (12TF RDNA 1 vs 12.45 RDNA 1 effective (of 12TF RDNA2)).

However, I've seen some speculation it's closer to a 50% improvement, so that would be a difference of 2.25TF (12TF RDNA 1 vs 14.25TF RDNA 1 effective (of 12TF RDNA2)).

The 50% amount is kind of high though; I'm not sure what the actual efficiency percentage of RDNA2 over GCN really is. Even for RDNA1, the 25% might be more a test condition amount; actual real-world efficiency numbers would range between 20% and 25% I'd reckon.

Since everyone here is entitled to say its own thought, I'll just drop mine: I have this lucid wet dream of Sony using the Cell for RT stuff. It was tested in the PS3 era for raytracing, it could be manifactured "kinda cheaply" by Sony, and since electronics manifacturing evolved, it would have more SPUs, no need to use the central PPC core this time (SPUs have their own architecture and custom instructions anyway). They might even make PS5 with the option of plugging "Cell Expansion Card" , and only include it with PS5 PRO.




Now stop dreaming and wake up 😂😂

Seriously though, I think Sony is aiming for the PS5 to be on par with hardware like the XSX. Matt’s comment at least made it sound like they’re aiming for such a high caliber machine of their own. Just my opinion, though.

Hypothetically, say Sony is dead set on matching or beating MS in specs. Is it too late in the game for them to change specs right now and upgrade their build last minute? Or can they do that since they haven’t officially announced anything yet?

They haven’t started production, but I don’t know if it’s possible at this point to do that if they hypothetically wanted to.

I think the only think at this point would be clock bumps and adjustments in RAM amount, if they started messing with CU counts, etc. it would have to be redesigned and end up being delayed (which won't happen).

Who is saying they need to? Schreirer's sources said 2080 power for both machines, and people laughed. Yet here we are.

Now we have a PS5 engineer dropping a cheeky bit of info. I think signs are pointing to equal footing with some slight advantages to each one.

I’m far from an expert, but it depends on how high Sony has been aiming for, especially within the past few months/years/who knows? Just my 2 cents on this.

In regards to the sony engineer, if PS5 were lacking features compared to xbox then i doubt he would even be allowed to comment. With that said I feel like Xbox sucker punched sony hard today so the PS5 engineering team is probably reeling so this is him just coping out loud, NDA's be damned.

My read is that Sony didn't like the AMD RT setup and went with their own custom one. MS went with RDNA 2.0 and DX RT.

Sony had no reason to go with RDNA 2.0 because they had a custom solution and its why there was no RT in Github.

If Sony was using RDNA 2.0, they would both have the same feature sets and he would not be asking this question. There isn't a reason to have RDNA 2.0 and use your own RT solution.

Questions are A) How does a 40 CU @ 2 on RDNA 1.0 with custom outside APU RT compare to just a full fat RDNA 2.0 B) How many developers are going to lean in hard on a custom RT solution versus the one built into directX?

If OsirisBlack OsirisBlack is correct and the xsx is 12tf and 12.4, I think APi's will make a bigger difference, for example PS4 had inferior anisotropic filtering on some games despite being more powerful. so even if PS5 is 3.34% more powerful , it won't have "more performance" because some games will superior on the xsx, a bit like the PS3/360 gen but with even smaller differences.

The only Downside to this is that there will be no clear winner when it comes to which box is the most powerful.
