The break also definitely helps build up patience for that.
It also helps to just try to focus on the good posters, and ‘signal boosting’ them. A lot of the idiots are just trying to provoke a reaction, in my experience, and will go away when the adults are having a conversation.
I think it’s good to confront them from time to time (without it spilling into a page-long debate that ruins the thread), but it’s easy to get caught up in doing so, and ruin your own experience.
Take all the time you need, but you’re one of the best posters here, and don’t let them drive you away.

The break came with FF7 somehow. I clocked over 40 hours and I have yet to finish my first playthrough

I just started. I’ve been in a bit of a mood, so I haven’t been able to fully appreciate it, but it’s really impressive.
It’s also hard to believe how far we’ve come. Seeing a PS1 game recreated with playable, better-than-Advent Children visuals really drives that home. I think this is one of the first times where I felt kind of like I was inside a major Hollywood movie — the level of detail is incredible.
