There's a balance between realism and fantasy.

How come Chris and Jill have to find a key to every door when they could just burst through he door with no problem?

How is Drake able to climb mountains with only his bare hands?

If you can nitpick about a character's physical appearance not being realistic, then you should have that same approach with every little aspect within a video game.

Again, you're conflating gameplay elements with things that have nothing to do with gameplay.

Sacrificing realism in order to improve gameplay is fine, and I'd even encourage it (RDR goes the other way and sacrifices gameplay in the name realism). But sacrificing things that have nothing to do with gameplay makes no sense.

No, I don't have to nitpick everything.

I feel the people that don't get what I'm saying are the same that think fiction can never be realistic.

Again, I'd rather drop the subject, I think it's a bit weird, that's it, now move on.

DavidGzz DavidGzz I think it was clear I was being hyperbolic when I said 8000 calories.

I can't wait for the angry Joe review. He was so excited about the first one. And other Joe and him couldn't wait to play it. They will have some serious issues with the embargo about the story though...

I feel like his reviews always come pretty late so maybe they won't apply to him?

It is a midnight launch in the UK, right?

That's a good question. I'm not too sure.

Mine unlocks in 1 day and 16 hours and it's almost 5. AM here.

Is anyone gong to try playing TLOU2 blindfolded using the accessibility options? I'm considering it for a third playthrough.

I'm definitely going to give it a try after my second playthough.

The funny thing is, being so jacked in a post-apocalyptic scenario more than likely wouldn’t be conducive to survival.

And if you’re a hulking mass of muscle, you’re at a disadvantage. Having a gym in such a situation, much less using one, is a fucking laughably absurd prospect.

You think she looks like a hulking mass of muscle?

Pre-ordered and downloaded. Damn Covid. I could have saved money by going to the store.
Also found it 20£ cheaper on one website but delivery times were 3-10 days. Couldn't take the risk to have to wait 10 days.
Sony better not charge me for an upgrade next gen.

They won't Dory. If they do I'll fight them for you. Trust.

Play in easy and slaughter everything. Its what I did in TLOU 1 and it made the game bearable since the gameplay was pretty shit tbh
Playing it on easy makes it shit. Game needs to be played on hard with listen mode off. The tension and survival is a critical part of the experience.

People really think the gameplay of TLOU was shit? I can't believe that. The gameplay is extremely good.

Uncharted is a pretty generic TPS with incredibly dumbed-down platforming, but The Last of Us mixture of stealth and combat with a creative quick crafting system is great.

Then again, if you played it on easy and just Rambo-ed your way through, I guess you'd miss the entire point.

Another example of why difficulty levels often allow the player to ruin the experience for themselves.

I'm not sure they literally paid them, I think journalists just have their own political and social motives. However, I won't be surprised if user reviews aren't allowed on Metacritic.

This political line really doesn't work. Polygon and Kotaku are among the outlets most critical of the game, clearly if this was about politics they'd be praising it.

Personally I didn't think it was shit at all, I just didn't think anything it did was better or even as good as other titles that were already out at the point of its launch. But the story, writing, and characters were top tier IMO. I feel like that's the take I've seen from the majority that didn't really praise the game. I think straight up saying its garbage is quite harsh across the board.

Managed to nab the Special Edition on Amazon when someone cancelled yesterday (the £69.99 one not the one with the model). Card just been charged and preparing to dispatch. Excruciating 7 year wait almost over man!

I remember when that second trailer came out where we are first introduced to the Seraphites and a certain character a lot of the SJW types complained about the violence and a lot of anti-SJWs were defending it. Then the kiss trailer comes out and many of those anti-SJWs jumped ship and started screaming about an agenda. This game has pissed off a lot of moralizers on both sides of the spectrum. Also Polygon at least did not like the first game so why would they like the sequel?

Oh alright. I think when your story is that good all you need is GOOD gameplay (and for me it absolutely had good gameplay).
I can agree with that! But there were many acting as if the gameplay was much more than that, and I never quite understood that TBH. But of course to each their own as always, haha. I enjoyed the previous game overall, just didn't think it was the second coming of Christ or anything.

The gameplay did not reinvent the wheel but it was a very high quality one. There was a certain feeling that playing the game had that I didn't get again until I played Days Gone. Playing the game captured the mood of the world.

What I personally really like about the gameplay in TLOU was that there was certain weight and brutality of its combat system that I didn’t got from other zombie games at that time and Part 2 will bring that up to 11.

"Video game sequels, like movie sequels, are often designed in a way that merely gives the potential buyer more of what they liked the first time. There are rare creative projects—Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight,” for example—in which it feels like a team is unwilling to merely duplicate success, and are attempting to build on the foundation of the first experience. This game deserves that comparison. In every way, “The Last of Us Part II” is a major achievement, a masterpiece of a game that one would be tempted to say sets a new standard for the horror game experience, but that would imply that others could possibly live up to it. "

I had my doubts about getting rid of scores giving reviews more leeway to be honest, but if you look at the unscored tlou2 reviews on metacritic, you get just that. There is a nice range of opinions that read way more honest than the hype inducing hyperbole of the scored reviews. Neat.

Indeed. I think the best praise to be laid at TLoU’s feet is that it does a remarkable job of conveying a feeling of desperation and constant impending doom nipping at your heels. Not sure how they achieved it so well, but it works.

Exactly. The only thing I would improve on is that I wish they would make it so that some people might be friendly and you are always guessing who is and isn't a danger. It could be an interesting dynamic.

Good idea.

One thing I hope they've fixed from the original is the automatic holstering of weapons. The game operated on a "threat/no threat" state. Joel would keep his gun out in the former, yet after an area was cleared, he'd put it away after ten or so seconds. Pull it out at any time, he again automatically re-holsters it. The game should never do this as it indicates to the player they are in a state of security, which negates a massive part of the tension of being in an unpredictable, dangerous world. I hope the sequel has changes this.
