Well, even if you just watch 3 or 4 gay porn movies, that means something

So the head dev is back pedalling HARD on social media. “Oh we never said we were anti-woke” and “oh we just want to ‘make video’ games’ (i love that one). This guy saw how successful the first game is and now is trying to go mainstream. So now it’s time to take off the conservative mask and put on the ‘professional dev who just wants to make video games’ hat instead. Good to see how quickly success can change people.

Came across a review mentioning the allegedly gay scene:

Here, I might also like to mention the DEI controversy before the game was released. In the main storyline, Henry can have a romantic relationship with a male companion, but as long as you don't deliberately choose the option with the "romance" icon, you will never see it. If you are relatively cold in the conversation, then this option will not even appear at all.

Hopefully this makes everyone happy.

As a game studio, you don't want be known as woke or anti-woke. It only hinders your studios bottom line when you engage in such a dialogue. Vavra finally understands that

As a side note, there is nothing like a KCD game. If this game somewhat blows up, it could shake up the industry in a profound way, imo

ffs can we stop this nonsense about how reviewers look and focus on the content of the reviews? I would assume that's the point of review threads.
If the review reads as if it was written by a lunatic, it makes sense to look for reasons. The reviewer's looks is often a good indicator to draw further conclusions from.

Being anti-woke is just as detrimental as being woke, especially for an historic title. It's taking a stand on modern issues and you want neither in your game.

I hope this game does very well. The devs deserve the shine. First game was damn good even if a slight bit rough around the edges. I love the improvements to combat that were necessary but adapted well to the first game. This is going to be epic.

Is it allowed to post a very NSFW screenshot from the game here under spoiler tag? (from a sex scene). Should put some... "concerns" to rest xD

So it's basically like most other RPG's that have different sexual oriented relationship options. Great. Is Grummz tearing out his remaining hair over this?
If that dude put as much effort into game development as he does into being a complete embarrassment then he'd make the greatest game of all time.

if he talks about books, you better damn well listen

I thought people were saying they "don't want politics in games" and just want to play good games untainted by contemporary BS and culture wars? Isn't this exactly that? Do game creators now have to be a mirror image of progressives, be conservative, and start pushing for their own brand of politics?

Personally, I like Vavra's stance.

I have it preloaded. Loved the first game.

I haven’t watched any review but I just hope it’s not the Wolfenstein syndrome again where the moronic gaming journalists sleep on the first game and then overrate the worse sequel.

Agreed, both sides are equally bad. Not every single thing is woke either, these guys have proven themselves to be radicals in their ideologies against wokism. Extremes are never good

Something in between these two sides is the right way to go imo, wokism and propaganda is bad, but this doesn't mean we cannot have homosexuality or even certain ideologies, as long as those are well written and represented without trying to lecture me about how I have to think. Being subtle with these subjects is the best way to tackle them

Like I said many times before, some of my favorite videogames had gay characters and it wasn't a big deal, Mass Effect comes to mind. The issue is when these activists are trying to insert themselves, and making the game all about their message, instead of making a fucking videogame

Maybe the "infiltrate in a monastery" quest is still there, but it's full of nuns this time around? :lollipop_content:

Because he's a pathetic Snowflake. His reviews also suck ass
He's always struck me as a bloke who likes the sound of his own voice. He's also a KCD fanboy so he's being called out in the comments for giving them a pass.

No mention of the Malian scholar who tells the backwards Europeans about how much better they treat women in his country.

Here's the livestream if anyone wants to see it:

I bpunced off the first one hard and can't remember why exactly. I'm still willing to buy this one though, the concept is too cool. I like the whole idea of being just some dude in the middle ages. No dragons and other bullshit.

Optional gay romances were in most rpg games. I don't know why people were so triggered by this.
Because it gives them tingly feelings 'down there' that they don't want to face up to I think... No other reason to object as much as they do. To role-play the character, they doth protest too much.

I dont like it, I dont hate it. If Vavra would have kept the same stance as he had for the first game, I would have been totally fine with it as well. Still would like to know what made him change his mind. He never gave a reason for it.

He didnt change his mind. during the development of the first game he said 'fuck off, I'm making the game I want' and people at the time assumed his stance and decision-making was born from being on the side of gamergate, rather than just wanting people to shut up and stop giving him stupid, irrelevant critisism.
His stance on this one is also 'fuck off I'm making the game I want'
Nothing has changed between the two - except for people's interpretation of his actions. His actions look very consistent. His stance with the first was that it was very unlikely for someone like henry to see black people in that part of bohemia. Now the scope of the sequel is larger and there is one, who is a traveling merchant.

The inclusion of gay romance and a single dark skinned character does not mean that if the first game had a higher budget and much larger city that he wouldn't have also added those things there. It just didn't happen, it was a Kickstarter funded game on a shoestring budget. And including those things doesn't make a game 'woke'.
