all company's do it, lets not pretend its just Microsoft
Honestly, it's only Microsoft in the gaming industry. Neither Sony nor Nintendo buys multiplatform IPs, studios, and publishers and take their games and sequels off of other platforms.

Also, neither Sony nor Nintendo is facing an anti-trust and anti-competitive lawsuit by regulatory bodies.

Sony bought studios that made games for other platforms to, yeah they may of closely worked with Sony but it happened

The Outer Worlds was published by Private Division, not Microsoft.

The Outer Worlds 2 is not releasing on PlayStation. So I doubt this makes any difference, especially for regulators (CMA in particular) who have analyzed this very carefully and understand these nuances well.
Why would the outer worlds 2 come to playstation. Microsoft took the chance to purchase a studio with financial issues who was relegated to making AA games. Sony had every opertunity to take the risk and buy Obsidian entertainment. Microsoft took the risk and earned the right to benefit from said risk.

We don't do logic around here! Stop making sense.

The difference is that ME1 eventually came out on PS3, later after ME2 release but it was still nice I could play whole trilogy on one system.
Unless you can predict the future, you can't tell if these games will ever make it elsewhere at some moment. Crash Bandicoot games eventually made it to other consoles than PS. You can't even tell if MS themselves are not going to continue publishing them on PS/Nintendo...

They still removed a sequel where the community was.

But I don't have any such complaints about OW 2. And my comment wasn't about "see MS is removing OW2." But it's a fact that has been raised by the regulatory bodies, which is what I pointed and that it won't have any effect in terms of narrative and perception.

Which IPs and games did Xbox lose as a result of those studio acquisitions?

It's really disingenuous when some of you compare HouseMarque, Insomniac, and Firesprite to Zenimax and Activision.
"We're all lying." It gets old.

Stellar Blade had trailers announcing it for Xbox and PS. Now Sony is publishing it so it will never come to Xbox. I guess everyone in this thread will be complaining about that any minute now.

Crash was a case of selling successful IP which I believe is extremely rare these days. Certainly a better chance of releasing elsewhere if the IP is not owned by competition.

That's actually a fair assessment of the situation. Microsoft saw an opportunity to get a talented studio that could be doing more with better funding and take them in-house. Similar to Sony buying Insomniac or whatever.

What's weird is everyone that insists that MS (and only MS) deserve goodboy points for it. MS (or anyone really) shouldn't get to make the sound, exclusivity-ensuring deals AND try to come off like a good guy that's totally about increasing competition and having everyone play together.

MS is either singing kumbaya or making cut-throat moves, they cannot have their cake and eat it too.

Part of the reason the game looks as good as it does is because Sony is publishing it and helping support the development

But sure, those few games Sony had exclusives for are totally comparable to the best selling game every year

And Sony didn’t get the regulators blocking them.

Even bungie went past without a hitch….

Yet here is MS - in a self inflicted limbo.

Bungie is not even in the same league as Activision Blizzard is and that deal has been probed by the FTC as well.

I have mentioned this in my previous post but the lot of you keep going on and on with this ''Microsoft are getting bullied'' statement.

They knew full well that, with the amount of money they want to invest, it would wake up every single regulator around the globe and for good reason.

Plus: The 3.6 billion is not even in the same ball park as the 69 billion MS is willing to invest in a publisher that has the rights for one of the biggest franchises in the world.

The only difference is scale.

And MS gives their studios more money and resources as well so I guess Outer Worlds 2 is officially not evil.

We literally saw Stellar Blade trailers for at least a year prior to Sony buying the IP and publishing rights. It doesn't look very different. You guys never can hold to your own rules when criticizing something.

I'm genuinely still befuddled as to why Spencer would just randomly bring up the idea of whether Xbox will still exist or not if the ATVI deal fails.

Why would you even bring that up? Apart from idle forum chatter and some comments by Jez Corden here and there, no one of any stature ever suggested anything of the sort!

You mean chris dring? I don't think he said that, last i remember he said EC may be swayed, but cma is still a challenge.

And besides unless the actual hearing takes place with the CMA we won't know anything until after. Unless of course MS decide to drop out before.

Should hell freeze over and the deal doesn’t go through, I wonder if there’s a back up deal in place for exclusivity for Activision properties for Xbox. I can’t imagine anyone at Activision is happy with Sony.

Activision stockholders are going to still want returns on their investments so Activision executives are going to have to put away their hurt feelings and do whatever deals get them the most money. Probably the one smart thing Lulu said was this isn't personal, all business.

If the deal falls through, activision will be thinking of themselves and not MS. They maybe less friendly with sony, but i don't see that lasting long term.

Just not true

Activision Blizzard acquisition will be approved because Sony is the one with a Monopoly in the gaming (console) Division
SoloKingRobert SoloKingRobert 's post did specify in the console market, which I say is a fair statement. Nintendo has recovered a bit of ground as fast as units sold but when specifically referring to console gaming, Playstation is the first name MOST people think of.

It is an incorrect statement. Sony is not a monopoly in the console market. See the chart I posted. Sony doesn't even have 50% market share.

Not that it matters, but the regulators aren’t there to stop monopolies forming.

They are there to prevent corporations achieving a monopoly through unfair practices - acquisitions on the scale MS is attempting for example.

No the only difference is not “scale”

Stellar Blade looks better everytime we see it, and it may have not gotten its budget and extended dev time without Sony

Call of Duty is getting made at the same quality with no risk to profitability or studio life support whether MS buys ATVI or not

Why would there be an exclusivity deal backup plan if Xbox doesn't even want to make COD exclusive after the acquisition in the first place? 🤔

Not forgetting it will be government regulators who block the deal.

Sony don’t decide and have neither the power to approve or block this.

ABK getting bent out of shape at Sony would be misdirected nerd rage.

But then again, some of the performances I’ve seen from execs this last 2 weeks has been cringe so maybe it will be nerds assemble.

Oh also, ABK should defo do that Nintendo version now MS have shown them how lucrative it will be.
