It's the same case with me and my friends when it comes to Playstation, it's not a zealot brand loyalty kind of thing but most of us here grew up with the PS consoles and we all own one, but none of my friends even follow the news and updated closely like I do and they could care less if something like day and date PC ports happens. I do envy their ignorance. Sometimes you just wanna play.

I am not particularly interested in the announcement. Partly because I already have an idea how it would go or rather, the only way it can go. And the other part because I think the fact that there is even such an announcement happening, is all the info we really need.
To elaborate on the second point.
When a console/gen starts, the future of that platform or the direction of that platform is tied to the console. You simply start the cadence of announcing games and services/features/peripherals and releasing them for the lifetime of that platform. xbox just had a games showcase a few weeks ago, which is in line with that cadence I mentioned earlier. That we are having a "business event", halfway through the platforms life, where we are talking about the "future of Xbox" (a future that is different from anything said so far to warrant it being discussed mind you), and that in any shape or form, this future includes bringing things that were previously exclusive or suggested to remain exclusive to Xbox, the PlayStation; marks a significant shift in strategy.
They can announce activision games coming to gamepass, they can announce a $100 streaming box for Xcloud, or a new console coming in 2026 (though I think it would be stupid of them to announce that so early) but none of that matters if they say such and such games from our library is coming to PlayStation. Because with everything else I mentioned, you can expect them to do as a platform, those are all natural things if you may, but bringing their stuff to Playstation, marks a symbolic significant shift. An unnatural shift. And undertones whatever else they say (or don't say) about the future of Xbox.

Anyway at this point it's just better to wait for actual announcements. Many of these insiders like Jez are just panicking and flip flopping but it doesn't seem like the full picture has been shared with them.

None taken because I can for sure afford an extra PS5 considering I retired 23 years ago at the age of 33 and currently residing in our winter home in Jupiter FlSorry, no offense, but considering your household does not appear like you cannot afford an extra PS5 or something, refusal to go anywhere outside the Xbox ecosystem just because… is… well… at least in the neighbourhood of the definition of zealotry.
And I know it can be a shock to some that visit forums but my son, who is 34, does indeed like to watch shows like E3 to see what games are coming but doesn't give 2 shits about console wars and is perfectly happy not playing the likes of Spiderman 2 and God of War types of games.

I've bolded something I find particularly interesting (and somewhat funny) though, and IMO proof of that they were absolutely not expecting the backlash at this specific moment in time. I can't recall who said this, but: "Microsoft is reactive" in that they respond to the narrative, not determine it in their own pace. A couple of weeks after a showcase they will have Phil coming on video to explain how Xbox is going to change for reasons I am not entirely sure of. Is it really the self-proclaimed "superfans" Klobrille, Timdog, etc. that made Phil tweet something about an event coming soon? Is it general trolling on X that forced them to react? Why bother to respond in the first place?
We constantly talk about these fanboys not mattering in the long run, and that normal bro dude buying Xbox for Call of Duty and Madden/FIFA doesn't even know about what's really happening, yet Microsoft seems to think otherwise.

One popular theory is that Sony forced the 10 year contract with CoD. And that means Microsoft bosses were able to see what kind of money CoD bring in every year. Had Sony not done that then maybe the MS bosses might have let it go.Is that when MS met with Sony to convince them to back off the ABK acquisition?
After the deal went through, Starfield came and gone without pushing the hardware like they hoped.
And then MS themselves discuss the future of one day NOT getting that paycheck from Playstation platforms. And decided no, 1st party isn't working for them.

Great for you. Some games are now on PC sure, but if you can easily afford a Sony console no title would interest someone… sure possible just out of all generation of PlayStation there are unique titles worth playing on them.

I told of earlier in the week about the rumors of Xbox going full 3rd party and might be able to play all Xbox games on Playstation and his response was, and I quote "Who gives a fuck"
He is happy with Xbox and a couple of his friends that he grew up with are still on Xbox and thats where they play

I believe this business event... was NEVER supposed to happen. And that anyone who says that they had one planned for this or that is a liar. At most, there would have been the customary shareholder meeting/calls and that would have been at the end of this fiscal year. These rumors have forced their hands, and that they are even having an event now, is just indicative of there being some truth to those rumors. Otherwise, they did have just flat-out come out and said Nope, all false. The end.
So I agree with you that this whole thing is just them reacting, but even worse, I feel that them having to make this kinda announcement, is forcing their hands to potentially say more than they ever wanted to say, or at the very least, carefully word their message to avoid a situation where very shortly it may look like they are going back on their word. I feel what MS was gonna do, was just quietly and unceremoniously release smaller titles on Playstation. And then get the market desensitized to seeing Xbox games on Playstation gradually, then over time, more and more of their stuff just comes to Playstation. And it all just looks incidental. No fanfare, no acknowledgments... nothing. But those rumors/leaks or whatever changed all that. So now they have to address it.
This is one of those times where what is "NOT" said, could be more important than what is said. Eg. Them not reiterating that all future major Xbox exclusives will remain as exclusives, would be just as important as them saying this or that game is coming to PlayStation.
This should have been common sense for all to see. And why a lot of us have said, gamepasss is just not sustainable. It's just funny that what accelerated all this, were the very things that Xbox was praised for when they were doing it. Those aquisitions. The math just didn't add up.

I think people understand the fact (“nah, nothing but Xbox or PC interests me”), just like a confused disagreement on the underlying “nah, nothing on PS I could be interested in”. Same thing with PC or Nintendo consoles if we changed the subject of the conversation. I understand the “even if someone were a bit close minded, why do you give a f&£@?”.

I do think that whatever MS' plans were for the ABK acquisition, the 10-year deal changed a lot.
Maybe it was the final straw that led to the rumors of Xbox going 3rd party.
Jim Ryan suddenly retiring also might be a result of this.
Job done, time to end a great carreer.

in his awesome twitter spaces he has said several times that, for him to be happy Xbox will need to do that (No xbox games on PS period). he will continue to play on Xbox either way
but he says that he knows xbox is going full third party and he blames Nadella.
all these tweets are more like when someone breaks up a relationship and tries to make the ex jelly by acting all cozy with another person

It's certainly means a pretty big change in how the brand is handled. It's why it's a business event focused on explaining to shareholders how Xbox will change. Now what the details of that change is I have no idea. All I know is that it isn't small like some people were suggesting.
