Did the first game really suck that bad.?,,,I’ve seen like 4 of you say that now… I was thinking of picking up a physical ps4 copy too(for bc).. that’s to bad

I wouldn't say it "sucked that bad." It was just very ... ordinary. It felt uninspired. It was an "in one ear and out the other" type game. It made no impact, left no impression. It was okay while it lasted, and I persisted until the end, but many times I felt like I was dragging myself through it just to finish.

Other people really seemed to enjoy it, so YMMV, but for me it was a very C-level experience.

I thought maybe it had been rushed or something. Hopefully the second one is better, but I'm not going to count on it.

I really enjoyed the first planet of the game a lot. After that though man I don't know it just fell off for me. I ended up just rushing through the main story after that. Don't even remember what happened.

This is as whelming as it gets. If you ever want the definition of mediocre then look at the first Outer Worlds: It's the benchmark for an absolutely bang average uninspired game. I didn't hate it or love it and can't remember anything about it other than it filled some time, which would've been better spent on something else.

Genuinely surprised they even went ahead with the sequel given how lukewarm the original was received and how fast it was forgotten.

Meh, the first was mid. Between this series and starfield, what is with these space RPGs that are dead set against complex alien species? Mass Effect literally gave you the blueprint. Nasapunk my ass.

Hopefully the writing is better. The corporate jokes the entire game got extremely old, extremely quickly.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

No, it didn't. Some users primary issue here was that the female designs weren't feminine enough.

As an RPG, it's a pretty decent game. Lots of good choices, ways to tackle quests etc.

It actually sold over 5 million copies.

Must’ve been wildly profitable for a 30 million budget game.

Even metascore is high.

Dunno any metric by which I would call it a failure.

How it started

How it's going

Of course he is pumped for the new ND game, despite that character design and all the stuff in LoU2 that he’d be triggered as fuck over if they were in a MS game 🤭

MS puts their games on PS5 but the war still rages.

No, it didn’t suck, it just didn’t live up to expectations after New Vegas. It was a small low budget RPG with some good combat and good quests. People also got butt hurt that there is a lesbian character in the game.

Did anyone REALLY love this game? Like, enough to warrant a sequel? I haven't played it, but my understanding was that it was alright but not much more.

Same with what happened to me. I think the first few hours on Terra-2/Emerald Vale up to Groundbreaker are really good, but yeah once I hit Monarch I just fall completely off of everything, not caring about the story or the characters aside from Vicar Max. I did finish it back when it released, but it was one of those experiences that felt like "work" quicker than I expected. Fortunately it really doesn't take that long to complete.

I thought it was ok, a complete waste of time with the character creator/customisation as you rarely or if at all from what I remember see your character in a cut scene. It’s a first person game too which isn’t my preference but will tolerate it it’s got something going for it.

The only character I thought was remotely interesting/fun was the ships female computer, which says a lot.

Scope is an okay compromise imo, the trend now is to go for shorter more meaningful games anyways.

If it's a 20~25 hour RPG, that's plenty decent IMO.

Aiming for 100 hour games makes budget and timeframe balloon, then we complain about why developers aren't putting out games in 4, 5 years.

According to my stats I played the first game to completion, which means I must have liked it but I'll be damned if I can remember a single thing about it...

This could be bigger in scope, they could fix the shallow character building, the shitty loot, etc. But it looks like more of the same so it's hard to care. I'm no longer Obsidian's target audience and that's fine.
