1/4th through the year. What have you played, how has it been?

Of the games released this year I have played:

Blaster Master Zero
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
Fast RMX
LEGO Worlds
Mass Effect: Andromeda
NieR: Automata
Nioh
Resident Evil 7
Snake Pass
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Yakuza 0

The only one I've finished is RE7, but I plan on going back to all of the rest (though I might wait for some fixes for LEGO Worlds). And I still really, really want to try Horizon and Persona is out next week

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Completed the main quest, almost done with the Shrines. Fuck the Korok Seeds. Easy contender for GOTY.

Fast RMX - Skipped on Fast Racing NEO so I picked this up for the Switch. Very fun sci-fi racing game.

Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment - SOOOOO much better than Plague of Shadows. Best bonus campaign so far.

Blaster Master Zero - Still going through this one. Nice little remake of the original. Dialogue is god awfu, tho.

Dark Souls III: The Ringed City - Nice final piece of content for Dark Souls, great boss fights (except for THAT one).

Still need to buy:

- Horizon
- Resident Evil 7
- Persona 5

Overwatch - because of course

Super Time Force Ultra - this is a great little game. I played this in early January and it was a great way to start the year. The humour is a bit tiresome, but the gameplay is excellent.

Dying Light - the only game that got picking up garbage right. "A plastic tube? I do need that." The game legitimately scares me at times and it is hilarious at others. It looks pretty good on the PS4 too. On the PS4, the community is healthy and friendly. People are generous.

Rebel Galaxy - It takes a while to get going and isn't immediately gripping, but this game is a great entry in the space trading and combat genre. Well, the combat is serviceable, but the trading system is great. More Galactic Trucker with a Gun than Captain Laser.

Metal Gear Rising - This game is ridiculous and fun. I think I will replay it a few times.

Transformers: Devastation - MGR is technically better, but I grew up with G1 Transformers. This is the kind of nostalgia that reminds you of how wide open the entire world seemed as a kid. Plus the combat is still way better than most games.

Spec Ops: The Line - A nice break from the standard stories. A really weird break. And heck, I know people panned the gameplay, but I am enjoying it more than all the Uncharted games I have ever played (plus killing an army makes sense on this setting).

Overcooked - Well, that sure made my wife yell at me in no time flat.

Pix the Cat - Why aren't you playing this game? It is really really good. COMBO!

The Last Guardian - played just a little, stopped. Both my own experience with the controls and the many echoes of others' concerns, persuaded me that it wasn't worth the effort to continue. I may try again in a few years, if I'm feeling patient.

Gravity Rush 2 - enjoyed the first half, but then it started to feel tediously repetitive, with the tablet challenges and the boss fights that never ended. Also it started to take itself seriously, which ruined the lighthearted quality. Stopped about 2/3 of the way through.

Horizon: Zero Dawn - currently playing. About 60 hours in. Loving it. Fantastic game.
