10 reasons why you should play this Roguelike (Tales of Maj'Eyal Edition)

This is what I found on the wiki:
Tales of Maj'Eyal, more commonly known as ToME or ToME4, is an open-source fantasy roguelike. Development first began in 1998 as PernAngband, a Pern-inspired Angband variant, then later became known as Tales of Middle Earth
Ah OK, I didn't realise they used that name as well. I know the splash screen had Troubles, and from ToME's version.txt file:
Then came some legal problems with Anne McCaffrey estate and ubisoft and I had to remove the Pern stuff, so the game got renamed to ToME, the Troubles of Middle Earth.

Weird, maybe the ended up using both at one point in the development.

I really need to check the new version out again. I loved playing this, especially on long train travels.

Holy crap, I'd never heard of this game, thanks for the bump. I got sucked in hard by Ancient Domains of Mystery (never really played NetHack) and I've been itching for a very deep rogue like to get into again. I've got a little bit of back log to clear out and I'll give this a go.

This game kicks tons of ass. If you think rouguelike look too hard to get into, give this a shot on a rainy day.

New expansion Forbidden Cults releasing May 16th, definitely can't wait. Easily one of the best rogue-likes. Finally have a couple wins under my belt as well.

  • Cultist of Entropy: Using its insanity and control of entropic forces to unravel the normal laws of physic this caster class can turn healing into attacks and call upon the forces of the void to reduce its foes to dust.
