Another Ubisoft game flopped so badly, you might have never heard of it

Release Date: 4 February 2025

Once a powerhouse in the gaming industry, Ubisoft has faced increasing criticism for lackluster releases. While the company still holds major franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, its smaller projects have failed to gain traction. Many of its recent titles have suffered from poor marketing, lack of innovation, or simply failing to attract an audience. This pattern has now continued with BattleCore Arena, which has already faded into obscurity. The question remains—can Ubisoft turn things around?
Meet the next victim, a fast-paced PvP shooter that blends platforming, physics-based movement, and team strategy. Players can dash, jump, and use unique weapons and abilities to knock opponents out of the arena. The game features three multiplayer modes: Backup, a 3v3 team deathmatch with shared lives; Q-Ball, where teams compete to hold onto a ball for as long as possible; and Free-for-All, a last-player-standing mode. BattleCore Arena launched as an Early Access title on June 6, reaching a peak of only 124 players.

And this is a free to play game.
TBH it doesn’t even look like a bad concept, kinda like Super Monkey Ball with guns.

But what immediately seems unappealing is that you play as some mechanical sphere thing. In a multiplayer game, people want to play as some cool looking character. Should’ve made it like Monkey Ball where you play as some anime waifu inside a ball, I bet it would have 50x the players if it did.

A pvp game from Ubisoft that released in Early Access. Can't imagine why people didn't flock to it.

Also, those Steamdb owner estimates are wild.

I know it's estimates and estimates are hard to guess with fewer owners

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
someone should show the shareholders that the entire internet is laughing, mocking their continual failure. maybe they can sell an NFT tshirt in their next DOA project to recoup some money... insider told me those are really gonna take off. lol dumb fucks.

There has to be more to this, right? Looking at trailers there's no way they thought this was going to be a hit, right?
It almost looks like a student project or something. Like they did some game jam or student/intern competition with the promise that they'd publish the winning game on Steam or something.

Was it one of these NFT games? I dont know why, but Ubi was tinkering with this NFT stuff quite a lot. This company is so out of touch of everything....it even hurts a little bit. :messenger_hushed:

Looks like the type of game that could have been a huge success for streamers. If a small indie dev made it with simpler graphics.

Why is Ubisoft publishing all this shit? And why is there so much incompetence from them over last few years.

They weren’t amazing before but at least were pretty consistent. Wonder if the rumor of them having mostly juniors on a lot of teams is true because their output has been pretty terrible.

Flopping would mean somebody was expecting a no-name game to do decently.

Edit: Damn, the sheer hate for Ubisoft on GAF will forever remain a mystery to me. Feels like in every Ubisoft thread, regardless of context, I read the exact same replies. If I didn't know any better, I'd say GAF was filled with bots.

Because for a couple of decades, Ubisoft was making top tier games. Absolute bangers, of the highest quality.
But in these last years, there has been a huge drop in quality.
Then there is the aggressive push of MTX, that hurts gameplay. The push for NFTs.
And also the introduction of identity politics in several of their games.

There are many companies that makes games I don't care for or have practices I don't agree with. I just remain indifferent to them. Actively seeking any news about them, even the most trivial, just so I can post that I hope they close down and everyone fired seems a little extreme. This is what I see here on daily basis about Ubisoft and I'm saddened because in such moments GAF reminds me of the hivemind the other forum we supposedly hate so much is.

For the next time you feel bad about people posting whatever on neogaf !

edit : tho i agree with you there is a huge amount of very stupid posts made very seriously by some posters, which is very tiresome especially on particular topics... But then again practice what you preach and ignore them dude.

We don't dislike Ubisoft just because of politics, like the other forum.
We dislike modern Ubisoft, because they have the potential to make great games, but choose not to do so.
They use to make some of the best games, every year. And now they make some of the worst.
We are losing out on so many great games and IPs, because Ubisoft today, is being run by morons.

They can still make really good games. That last Prince of Persia was fantastic. AC isn't bad, I'm just completely bored with it anymore. Anno is going strong. The two problems that they have are a very stale open world formula, and they gambled and failed on a few live service catastrophes. So very bad management imo.

Individual opinions are fine, it's hivemind opinions that trouble me.
I get your point, and actually i often find myself frustrated reading some threads because you have to skip half of the posts just to find the interesting ones.
About the hivemind mentality, i only know of LectureMaster LectureMaster who systematically has 20+ reactions to every dei related posts he makes. It is just mindboggling to me. But he must say things that resonate with gaffers, he forces no one to approve what he says. I think that is the good thing here, no one will force you to approve. They can seethe, call you a retard or whatever, but in the end you aren't forced by anyone, unlike the other place...

Ubisoft should bow out like a real man. Make a kick-ass splinter cell remake, drop the mic and walk away.
