Why does balanced modes need HDMI 2.1?
I thought HDMI 2.1 was just required for 4k/120fps

in b4 "but ackwhallly the watermelons are not growin in japan at that time of the year and on 1:44 you can see a watermelon so ubisoft is ultra trash"Came here to share this video as well, gameplay looks excellent so far and the visuals look clean and good.
I'm glad we're getting 60 FPS with ray-tracing on the Pro, should make for an enjoyable visual experience.

Looks really good on the Pro. Looking forward to playing
Im pretty sure this is PC footage
Why do you say that?
Because it looks too clean to be a 60 fps pro footage with really high ress textures aswell. If the Pro version really runs at around 800p upscaled to 4k, that would look considerably worse than this.
dont talk bad about ps5 pro or ps5 pro brigade ll come after you, they are many over hereLast time DF looked at this game it was 800p with PSSR on Pro.

Quality Mode:
- The performance mode will target 60 FPS, reducing the rendering resolution and adjusting graphical settings to reach a consistent 60 FPS. On both PS5 and Xbox Series X, this mode relies on our tried and tested baked global illumination technology.
Furthermore, the increased raytracing capabilities of the PS5 Pro allow us to introduce our new raytraced global illumination technology at 60 FPS.
Balanced Mode:
- The quality mode will target 30 FPS, leading to a higher resolution as well as boosting several rendering systems. The pre-upscaling resolution is only one area where we leverage the increased GPU budget. Our raytraced global illumination technology is one key element that also distinguishes this mode, as well as improvements on draw distances, shadows, in-game hair quality, etc...
Again, the PS5 Pro benefits from the more powerful GPU and raytracing capabilities by being the only mode on console that is offering raytraced reflections.
- The balanced mode, which does require a High Refresh Rate (120 Hz) compatible display, allows a 40 FPS target which combines both previous modes into one. The balanced mode basically uses the same configuration as the fidelity mode but the upscaler target's FPS is instead 40 FPS. In practice, this leads to a minor reduction in rendering resolution compared to the quality mode, but with all the other rendering system's configuration untouched.
On Xbox Series S, the game provides an experience targeting 30 FPS.
We received many questions on the PS5 Pro version.
As detailed above, we use the same 3 graphics mode (performance, quality, balanced) but we opted to enhance each of them. We felt that we had the capability of catering to different player needs by providing for all the 3 modes a better experienced on PS5 Pro.
The most notable improvements are:
- Performance mode uses Raytraced Global Illumination
- Quality and Balanced mode introduce Raytraced Reflections as well Global Illumination
If I'm not mistaken, hdmi 2.0 doesn't support 120hz at 4K.
hdmi 2.1 is minimum for 4K at 120hz. The game might be internally rendering lower but the output image is still 4K, so it would need that bandwidth, and the 40fps mode needs 120hz support on the display end.
That's my basic understanding.

Looks pretty good imo....
Right, but what if my tv has 2.0 and 120 support and 4k support. Just can't do 4k@120 . . . what does that have to do with 4k@40 balanced mode?
On my old 2.0 monitor I could use 40fps modes, but with the resolution set to 1440p. In order to utilise 40fps you are running in 120hz so I imagine that hits the limit of 2.0Right, but what if my tv has 2.0 and 120 support and 4k support. Just can't do 4k@120 . . . what does that have to do with 4k@40 balanced mode?
It's probably down to VRR support which requires 2.1 on the PlayStation consoles. Hopefully that means they implemented LFC for a smoother Balanced mode.Right, but what if my tv has 2.0 and 120 support and 4k support. Just can't do 4k@120 . . . what does that have to do with 4k@40 balanced mode?
Technically 2.1 is not required for VRR, it's just the only way to be sure that it's supported. Individual TVs/monitors are known to support VRR even in 2.0 but you have to look up your model to be sure. It's probably down to VRR support which requires 2.1 on the PlayStation consoles. u a something of a sekiro enjoyer huhLooks decent enough graphically, but with this setting I'm really yearning for sekiro-esque combat now.

I'm sorry this deserves it's own thread.
I created a thread like a dumb ass

This gives hope for a very good PS5 pro upgrade for GTA6.I was worried that RTGI was getting axed for all consoles, after rumors started circulating a couple weeks ago that it would be cut.
This is a big relief as a Pro owner and a bigger deal than people realize. It would've been easier for Ubi to just remove it from all consoles for the sake of "parity" (remember when they did that back on ps4?). This is a big deal because it sets a precedent for Ubi and other 3rd parties to not ignore the power of the Pro.
They could've still had the "Pro enhanced" tag without RTGI ...just up the resolution or add pssr and called it a day...not risked missing off regular ps5 owners but they didn't.
This is the way things should be of course but we can't exactly trust devs to do things the right way these days.
