At this point, is the Switch 2 the worst kept "secret" in gaming history?

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Nintendo hasn't announced anything, other than they're working on a next-generation console. Meanwhile, the console's design is leaking all over Reddit, Chinese factory message boards, and now CES. We've got (alleged) pics of the motherboard. We know the joycons are magnetic and have some sort of laser mouse thing in them. We know it's approximate size / comparison to the existing Switch. Hardware and software manufacturers are putting out info like crazy. It feels like the only thing we don't know for sure yet is the price and release date.

I can't remember any other console that's had this much information leak before it's even been officially announced. Can you?

It's all about the software though. Hardware leaks are fine but we know what's possible in terms of power for the form factor of a switch type device. It's not like Nintendo have some sort of magic architecture that goes outside of our understanding of silicon chips or anything like that.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
They've already said they'll be announcing it before the end of the fiscal year 24 so that's before March's end, is it that hard to wait to confirm/debunk all you "know" so far and actually see all of it/see actual software?

Having another company show your brand new, unannounced, console at CES is a huge mistake for Nintendo, in my opinion. It just breaks the message, muddles the console's identity and more importantly loses its focus.

I'm in the camp of people that believe the Wii U name wasn't as detrimental to the console as not actually showing it first. The fact that we had to zoom in on an image focusing on a tablet and a tv, just to see the console, was, in my opinion, the greater mistake made by Nintendo.

And they're making the same mistake again. People now get to see the first instance of the Switch 2 as a 3D printed mock-up covered in cheap plastic to showcase another company's product. That is embarrassing and honestly a very easy way for the casual consumer to believe the Switch 2 could just be a sort of Switch Pro, not a new generation of console, considering the lackluster way it's being presented.

Insanely idiotic move by Nintendo here.

Nintendo making a new console to a machine that's been out nearly a decade is a secret now?

If CES was that relevant (for Nintendo) they would have announced it there.

I really wish we could auto ignore threads with keywords from title, I'm so tired of all them about so called "leaks" printed at home or photoshoped.

Nintendo, I beg you, please unveil everything right meow !

And, no, that's not even a secret, just some lifespan/market logic.

First I've heard of it, surprised there aren't like 20 topics about a leak of the switch 2 smell.

But seriously, it does to seem to have a lot of leaked (supposedly true) info pre announcement. Surprised a company like Nintendo don't have a family member of their employees hostage as motivation to keep quiet.

Even if there weren't leaks, we'd still know that Switch 2 is an eventuality.

I wish people would stop leaking stuff. It's like looking at your Christmas gifts, before Christmas. I did that one time as a kid and Christmas morning sucked because the surprise was gone, never did it again.

Gotta have games ready for launch, let a lone a showcase or even a preview. It's obvious not many are ready yet to justify showing the system.

I feel like the PS4 Slim was funnier, as there was literally people posting YouTube videos unboxing it and turning it on, while Sony refused to confirm it 😭

Eh....the PS4 Slim was a far more boring release whereas this is a new generation. Doubt Sony even cared that Slim leaked. Could be that is also the case with Nintendo considering the lack of controls on the hardware.

I don’t get why people are being autistic about this. They LITERALLY announced that they will announce it before the end of march. It’s not a secret, it’s a known commodity.

Is obvious that Nintendo doesn’t give a shit about the hardware leaks, it’s basically a bigger Switch, also they are getting free marketing, TikTok is full of Switch 2 leak videos, gaming forums and reddit have a new leak almost every day and YouTubers and Gaming sites replicate. I think they are just going to drop a video without any announcement on Youtube like the GTA6 trailer at any given moment this month.

Lol people on Reddit were like "Nintendo doesn't care about some niche nerd forum where less than 1% of the Switch 1 population know about Switch 2". I guess egg is on the face now if it's on Tiktok.

And you could argue that they were right. Casual consumers don't spend their time on the gaming leaks subreddit waiting to see some new picture of the joycons from a different angle.

But once it's at CES??!? Having your console being shown to the larger public for the first time in a video made by some french guys at a no-name company's booth that sells accessories??!?

That is an insane mistake, Nintendo completely lost the messaging here. We've had over 30 thousand people in the industry lose their jobs last year. Nintendo's marketing department should absolutely add to that number this year.

Yea... I really don't think any of this matters at all. The people who are looking up that type of stuff in reddit or at CES are probably really into gaming already and are gonna be interested in switch 2 regardless. A lot of other people (really the masses which will deter if the product will be successful or not) have no idea that these "leaks" are even a thing.

In the end, if the product is good and gives a people a reason to upgrade, it'll do fine.

sure, but if I remember correctly they literally refused to acknowledge it exists for weeks, even tho it was fully leaked.

it was pretty hilarious imo. but yes, in terms of interestingness or impactfulness it was very low...

Did they? Don't remember that, but yeah that sounds like Sony.

yeah, pretty sure many journalists reached out for comment and they completely refused to acknowledge anything happened.
meanwhile everyone saw it unboxed and connected to a TV playing games filmed in full HD on youtube.
their official presentation (where they also showed the Pro) was 3 weeks later I think.

I gotta say tho, the Switch 2 leaking this hard isn't a surprise to me. I mean, how long did we know the exact SoC they'll use? it must be almost 2 years now when I first heard about the T239.
it's such an old leak that people still referred to it as the Switch Pro back then.

it started leaking very early and hasn't stopped leaking 🤣
