[Eurogamer] If Switch 2 is the end of innovative Nintendo, there's much to be sad about

God I hate the mass media sometimes, they know depressing non-positive shit takes get clicks, and make sure to make anything and everything a negative.
My thoughts exactly. I just watched the last episode of the High Score docu series on Netflix. It talked about DOOM and Starfox. So much soul, gaming in the 90s was something else.

It's crazy how the gaming industry/hobby has evolved, in many ways, positively, but also, in many ways, negatively.

Man, that was a bad article. I notice this article complained about lack of innovation but didn't provided any of its own ideas.

Seriously, think about it. Should Nintendo have done VR? A traditional home console? A magic gaming space suit? What's it supposed to be? And then ask if those are actual sound business decisions.

Real Greta Thunberg energy, "Our job is to demand solutions, not provide solutions."

I think the system looks like shit, a low end tablet pc. I am not impressed.

Nintendo has been making handhelds before there was commercial tablets and portable PC’s. Its a natural evolution from there gameboy, gba, ds. They are doing what they always do. Better to keep it safe when you have a winning formula after the Wii U disaster/

It looks like a normal handheld and not too uncomfortable. Would you like mickey mouse shape? Smarties shape? Amphibious landing-craft shape?

People act like this is the first time Nintendo did a straightforward successor to one of their systems. Yet when we look at the past

Super NES - Basically a more powerful NES with extra buttons and Mode 7

Nintendo GameCube - A more powerful Nintendo 64 with mini-discs and a tweaked controller design

Game Boy Advance - A more powerful Game Boy with 4-player support

Nintendo 3DS - A More powerful DS with 3D.

This isn't anything new for Nintendo. They've done straightforward follow ups to their consoles before. Wii U was really the only time they added some radical new gimmick to a direct successor.

I don't know if I buy the Gamecube as a more powerful '64, but your point is solid. Nintendo is no stranger to a straightforward successor.

I would have been annoyed if Nintendo had departed madly from the first Switch. I don't want a repeat of Wii U. I just want them to focus on the games and bombard us with exclusives. I hope their output will be much better than Sony Studios.
