While I agree with a majority of what you've said, no one can convince me that any Xbox fan (myself included) was talking about this type of shit years ago. Back then, the focus was entirely on what Xbox Game Studios had to offer us platform holders, not what Microsoft was providing to everyone, every god damn where. So I completely get why those shell shocked from the console wars look at us like we on crack when we try to have a rational discussion about the new direction.

I really feel for those on the front lines who stood their ground and took all the heat for Xbox, only to look around and see Microsoft handing over what little spoils remained to their rivals.

I mean, there's no doubt they have had to do a 180 just within the last 1.5 years, really post-Starfield. They're going multiplatform. I came to terms with it last February when the Hi-Fi Rush stuff leaked. I had a Dreamcast back in the day too and was a big Sega fan. To me, this conversation is a year old. Enough stuff is multiplat now that from the options left I'll either transition to PC, or hopefully a hybrid with most of my Xbox library. It doesn't really affect me at all if PS gets these games, especially if GP can still survive. I think the PS fans are so toxic it's honestly for the best that they get them, because whatever they can't play day 1 will get destroyed through nonstop trolling and it's been that way since Tomb Raider on 360.

Well, you know I poke fun at my man adamsapple for a living but this time nope, I don't think Xbox had much of influence on the creative decisions on their first party studios. It's obsidian themselves.

Microsoft's lack of management over its studios is one of the biggest reasons why they have struggled so much. Say what you want about Sony, but the reason why their 1st party games land is because they have an entire support network within Sony that is assisting with development and managing quality control

Obsidian is a talented studio, but if I'm Microsoft, I would be furious if Obsidian continues to refuse to develop bigger AAA games. A big Fallout spin off by Obsidian seems like the biggest no brainer, but I doubt it happens because Obsidian wants to work on smaller projects

I don't know what fluffy means in this context, but to my untrained eyes it just looks like they did their best at re-creating the original isometric style in modern 3D.

To OP point though currenlty release game does have a much more vibrant color aesthestic and some may said fluffy look.
There are some exceptions of course such as the latest Armor Core and for some people MHWild is also looking too dull (granted this might be because of the areas that
is available in the demo).

For the record, not everyone obsessively follows every tweet, Reddit thread, or GAF post about a game. Honestly though, I have to take the blame for basing my expectations solely on the trailer. So far I do notice the rainbow environment, and the desert has a different vibe, so there’s still hope. Maybe the setting from the trailer is actually in the game, and I’m just jumping to conclusions.

I still haven't started the game yet. What does fluffy mean? The Final Fantasy X-2 of western RPGs? Probably long overdue. Most WRPGs are either sci-fi or barely different from Tolkien / pseudorealistic medieval stuff. PoE was always one of the only WRPGs around trying to really push into a hard break from Tolkien art design and try other things. JRPGs seem to get a lot more leeway to try obscure stuff. I remember playing Rhapsody on PS1 and no one really gave a damn.

Personally I'm not a big fan of current obsidian rpgs. It really shows how much a game engine matters, even Bethesdas haha

As for taking caution for all of Xboxs 1st party future games just because of Obsidians creative decisions is just silly. Mind you they very well showcased this game outside of that original trailer extensively.

"it's Obsidians Skyrim" is where you completely sold yourself on something it never was trying to be. Most of us went in with not crazy expectations & are having a good time taking it for what the game really is.

How can I put this...The game seems very unserious. It doesn't feel like there's a lot at stake. You can tell Obsidian's tried and true writing is still in the game. The dialogue is good, the books you pick up are well written, but the story and the environment just doesn't seem like things are that bad. Like the different factions of the game are supposed to be prejudice and oppressive toward one another...but nobody fights each other though they reside in the same cities, sometimes just a stone's throw away from one another. They just talk about things cordially. The story literally says the living lands are full of these ne'er-do-wells...but nobody poses a visible threat to anybody else. In the city people just go about their days, with barely any conflict. Even the bandits of the city seem to have semi-legitimate enterprises that respect the law.

That's what I mean by fluffy. It claims that there's chaos but I can't find the fucking chaos.

I mean the second time it was shown off is what caught so many by surprise. I would even argue the game was colorful considering what we saw when 10-15 years ago everything was muted and grey, seemed to strike a nice balance.
