Stop being dense. Studios iterate on engines for years because that’s what gives their games their soul. If they switch to a new engine they’d be starting from scratch and things would get lost in the process. It’s why COD has been using a modified idtech 3 for 20+ years.
People are getting hung up on the number of women when the real problem is that it kinda feel like outer worlds where men are almost all annoying, cunts or wimps or \fruity\gay or baddies and the women are almost all capable or positive.
Not sure if it's gonna be the same for the whole game but the beginning kinda feels like it.
Yes you have men of power, the first city has 2 men in charge, except one is
allied with the city rebels so a baddie
and the second one first opening phrase when you meet him must have been the director telling the actor to do the most annoying, cuntish, wimpy voice he could muster (no seriously, the inflection in his voice is almost comical)
And even when you talk to him later he feel like a wimp terrorized by the steel garrote or whatever.
Then you have this couple of grave robbers where the chick is clearly the boss and call this huge snake dude "tiny" even if he doesn't like it, and when you threat them he is scared as fuck and want to go to his mommy so you end up only fighting her...
Then you have the strongest character showed until now being a powerfull woman, one confirmed gay male companion (not because i watched a grifter, he spells that to you when asked about his quest)
10-15 years ago maybe i would not even notice these interactions or coincidences, and maybe they are just coincidences, but after their previous similar game you tend to see the bitch eating crackers everywhere, we really are conditioned to think the worse out of these devs and i'm still scarred from the outer worlds that was everything but subtle.
So yeah i'm not definitive on the writing but i'm already kinda skewed, it doesn't help the fact that the 2 male companions are really dull as fuck so for now i didn't really encounter a memorable male character yet.
At least the game feels much more fun to play, so there is that, and the woke stuff is not even close to the level of sp2 or veilguard, you can still suspend your disbilief.
P.s. writing is a bit too modern at times, i think i already had the chance to answer with yikes, pretty sure i'm not confusing this bit with kc2.
I've been watching some gameplays and in a few sidequest men are portrayed as weak and pussies and the woman is the boss lady, super brave and mock them for their weakness and even threatening them. Its so blatantly obvious that there is wokeness in the game that denying it its just sad

Asking for a modern engine is hardly being dense, sorry if i don't want them to reiterate an ancient engine just for a single feature that other engines do aswell, not when you are asking fro 70 dollars and other small games have better tech than you.
Sorry not sorry.
Other teams create new engines (even if the skeleton is from a previous engine) or switch to new engines, bethesda doesn't get a pass.

Thanks for the input, that's illuminating. We heard something similar from the early video ("Avowed Hates Men"), although that was too exaggerated for me to trust. I trust your input more.

Yeah, it's probably hard to distinguish between how much is "really there" vs. how much is there because we're attuned to it - we notice it more, so it comes into the foreground for us, whereas someone else might never even notice it.
Let us know what you think as you progress further in the game.

Well enjoy your fancy graphics with stapled down NPCs and lack of interactivity in Avowed because they didn't have the time and resources to match what Bethesda was doing in the creation engine 20 years ago.

If you were to compare 99% of RPGs to Creation engine ones, you'll find that all of them fail to match what creation does with emergent and persistent open worlds.
This took a different path. Peoples can be disappointed by that and its fine but its like wanting to compare any arcade racing games to iRacing. Why even make any racers? Why even make burnout, Mario kart, Fzero, GT7? Its crud! iRacing is king of simulators.
I see this more like Wizard Doom in PoE world with a dash of quests. Its action RPG. When Obsidian tried to make true RPGs, peoples ignored it. So pikachusurpriseface.

Now you are being dense, it is not an engine thing, it's a matter of developers not focusing on that, simulation and physics was clearly not in their mind, moving objects in a table is just simple havok, you don't need creation engine to move objects in games, all engines have that.
It is not a matter of fancy graphic, starfield had some great indoors, it is a matter of animations, digital acting, optimization, loading times etc.
These are rpgs where you zoom on faces and talk for 50% of the time, it is not secondary or tertiary to have good tech when you speak with npcs, mass effect 1 had more expressive npcs than starfield ffs.
P.s. avowed really doesn't have fancy graphic, like at all, it's one of the most forgettable ue5 games in term of graphic, it's around the level of immortal of avenum, better locations but worse characters.
Yes. Oblivion was one of my favorite games of all time outside of some repetitiveness in world design. I feel there's a big gap between it and KCD2. It's far more realistic than fantasy. Again, its good at what it does.
Decima engine, in one of the gayest Sony studio. They didn't pick a culture war on twitter but do you really think they cheering on chuds anytime soon? lol
The blacksmith thing is odd. While historically speaking men were dominate in the blacksmith field, it wasn’t exactly unknown for woman to participate as well. Usually this would be for doing chain or nail work as that was something lighter and required a deft hand, but it could also be regular forging as well. Something heavy like wagon wheels was usually left up to men. Woman could even own a blacksmith business, if the father only had daughters or the wife took over the position. Some examples from history include an illustration in the Holkham Bible (1327), the master blacksmith of the Tower of London during the 100 year war was a woman (Katherine le Fevre - her husband had passed away so she took over). Marged ferch Ifan and Elizabeth Bennett were further examples. The Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths in London listed 65 ‘brethren’ and 2 ‘sistren’ in its 1434 charter. Over 200 blacksmith students are documented to have been apprenticed to women in Oxford between 1520 and 1800. All that being said, a lot of those blacksmiths might indeed have been whitesmiths, which often used softer or lighter metals and dealt with items that required more delicate work. Which could often include the finishing work on weapons, assuming the skill set was high enough. Just before the Industrial Revolution woman were dealing with the mass production of such common items (nails and chains specifically), one anecdote is from William Hutton’s History of Birmingham. As he wrote; ‘one or more females, stripped of their upper garments, and not overcharged with the lower, wielding the hammer with all the grace of the sex.’
Just thought I’d go off on a bit on a tangent. It’s all pretty academic really as this is a fantasy game, so it need not comply with historical norms.
Yes. The griftees rarely know history or facts but you’re right, this is a fantasy game so even if there never were any female blacksmiths, it shouldn’t matter.
Not to mention, as others have pointed out, there are plenty of fantasy RPG’s and even Obsidian ones from the past with similar models and women out of the house but no one cared back then because there wasn’t someone on YouTube telling them to be butthurt about it.

If the gays in the Netherlands are capable of building Decima from scratch, what does that say of the cravate wearing chud killers in California who have to resort to using Unreal Engine?
But here's for the serious answer - decima was first built over a decade ago before all of this nonsense really took hold. I don't for one second believe that current day Guerrilla would be capable of building something like that from scratch.

This is why a lot of independent studios are very compelling right now. Several of them are composed of the talent that made previous games so unique and special. Most modern AAA studios are just wearing the skin suit of teams that were comprised of uniquely talented individuals that created timeless classics, and they've been skating on pedigree for a while now, over a decade in some cases, (Bioware, Rocksteady, etc.), but the facade is failing and people are realizing these aren't the studios they knew and loved, they've been gutted and replaced with talentless activists.
Far more than 99%, let's be honest. I feel like a lot of these people despise that they came out of heterosexual relationships, it's like they're pissed at the biological process or something. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that I've gotten dirty looks from these lunatics when walking around with my daughter and holding her hand or hugging her, and no I'm not imagining it, my wife's noticed it too. They legitimately hate seeing signs of a happy, healthy, traditional family, as if the nuclear family is a threat to them somehow. Textbook narcissism and paranoia. Once upon a time we used to put these people in padded rooms and get them help, now we praise them for their "bravery". We're fuckin lost.

This has been my experience playing it. I ran into some bandits, the woman was the tough "guy" and did all the talking, the man with her was a big pussy. You get the option to scare him off but she's too brave, basically calls her partner a bitch and says she will kill them after she finishes me off. Fine, whatever. A hour later I get ambushed by another male/female combo, and again the guy is a giant pussy, the woman berates him, he runs off as she says she's going to kill him after she kills me.
People can talk about the %'s of women to men, or whatever, but it's obvious as fuck to anyone with a brain what they are doing. This isn't the first game where they've done this, btw, and the fact that it's not immediately obvious to most people means they can get away with it will much less pushback, but it's a pattern of behavior with these activist companies that is easily plotted if you pay attention. It gets them less negative attention than the Veilguard shit, but it's every bit as annoying.

Thanks for confirming what I knew I saw through various gameplay clips. As always go with your gut and don’t listen to the screeching retards trying to gaslight you.

No coincidence at all. This is one of the most annoying woke tropes in current fiction. Since they can't write a good female character, they make women look competent by degrading men.
Asmon is getting tons of hate from his fans for his liking of this game
I think it's sorta hilarious, mostly because Asmon literally just skips over 90% of RPG dialogue when playing them. he's like the worst judge when in the world when it comes to games with any narrative.
my tastes tend to align with his, but I think its because we are both fairly ADHD when it comes to games
A Few Warnings About ‘Avowed’ Before Its Imminent Release Date
Despite arriving in early access last week, Avowed is now going to be officially out tomorrow, Tuesday, February 18, for everyone else, including Xbox Game Pass subscribers who won’t have to shell out separately to grab it, as is Microsoft’s eternal strategy.
As someone who has already put in 60 hours into Avowed, even before early access, I have a few warnings in regard to expectation setting, as since release, I have seen a lot of criticism about it doesn’t have enough “Elder Scrolls-like” features in various ways. I don’t think that negates the quality of the game, but here’s what to expect before you get in there.
No Stealing Mechanics – There is no portion of the game dedicated to thievery, if that’s your thing. You simply go into anywhere, take anything, even in from of NPCs, and it’s yours.
No Lockpicking System – This may be a positive for people who hate those minigames, but either you find a key or you simply hold down a button to use lockpicks in your inventory to open a door (buy lockpicks at vendors whenever you can or else you’ll run out).
No Attacking Normal NPCs – You can’t just go be a mass murderer in this game, and there’s no “guards will attack you, you get a bounty system” here. There are of course decisions to execute or let some NPCs go during quests.
No Cutting-Edge NPCs – This is a smaller budget game, so no, you are not going to have the latest in mo-cap NPC tech during conversations, nor is it even as good as recent Starfield convos, even when that’s a Bethesda weakpoint. This should be understandable.
No Upgrades Through Skill Use – This uses a much more traditional point-based upgrade system and you will not move up skill trees through frequent use of a skill like in Skyrim.
No Guilds Or Factions – There are no official “join up” mechanics with specific guilds or factions to give you bonuses like cool gear or unique questlines. You can choose “sides” through decisions, especially later in the game, but it’s not the same thing.
No Full Open World – There is not some giant, singular open world here, as it is divided into biome zones that you fast travel between. Each of those is very explorable, however.

And media gave Prey 2017 a 79, and its one of my favorite immersive sim game. They really don't matter.
I was disappointed that its not an Obsidian RPG ala creation engine fallout NV, although they gave plenty of hints it would not, but I see it now more as a Wizard DOOM action RPG with immersive sim world exploration with a dash of RPG choices and side quests, with nice rewards for exploring.
For me, after playing KCD 1 for weeks and weeks and finishing it last week, It'll be a nice change of pace. Can't wait for tomorrow.
