Different rules for different people, of course.

I know the game's director is asshat, but what are the woke elements that disturb people? I watched a few gameplay & dialogue clips, I didn't see the Veilguard situation.

Not just the leaders, but in Dawnshore itself, there are at least 12 female NPCs who play a role, whether major or minor:

  1. Malthea Captain
  2. Militia Captain Cynric
  3. Merchant Dagherda
  4. Blacksmith Gweneth
  5. Liviana
  6. Lynna
  7. Merchant (Militia Headquarters)
  8. Merchant Liviana
  9. Merchant The Catch
  10. Marynna
  11. Merylin
  12. Dehengen

Well if you have a problem with female npc vendors and such then I don't know what to tell you.

Ok......so how many males in Dawnshore who fit that criteria?

Try swinging a sword in KCD 2.

You will be SHOCKED.

People fighting for their lives will not fight like this. Skyrim’s basic swordplay feels miles better.

Probably a fair criticism but swinging a sword in Avowed doesn’t look much better. Even the more positive reviews have complaints about melee combat and damn near every video review I’ve seen of Avowed are using wand and grimoire spells which seems to give at least some credibility to the complaints.

As an aside, combat in KoA:R was pretty good too IMO. Chakrams flinging was fun shit.

Other than an (optional) toggle to show pronouns, no one's really shared anything that even comes close to touching the shadow of the whole Barv thing in Veilguard, which even I've said only detracted from an otherwise decent/good game.

It looks like overblown bs like how there were people who were convinced that Indiana Jones will have playable Gina segments because Indy will be incapacitated and treated like a secondary character or some such shit. 🤷‍♂️

There have been a few reports that women are unrealistically over-represented in leadership and/or quest-giving roles, to the point where an agenda seems apparent. On the other hand, there have also been several reports to the contrary. So who knows.

Nothing remotely resembling the Veilguard situation.

No, no, no. Female NPCs as vendors are okay, but my problem is that most of the NPCs in are female.

And in the city of Paradis none of them are running shit besides one. I'll see about the next area but the vast majority of shot callers in the City are men especially the ones dealing with the main quest. Am I lying?

The only thing I recall that was really overblown about Indiana Jones was the take one person here had that folks were going to freak out about a single lesbian character in the game. As far as I can tell no one gave a damn. First I'm hearing about this "Gina segments" stuff. Where was this "overblown" by people?

Weren't people just assuming it'd be the case because The Outer Worlds was like that?

I asked AI to provide me a breakdown of NPCs by gender in Dawnshore in Avowed:

Gender Breakdown of NPCs:

  1. Male Human NPCs:
    • Militia Captain Cynric
    • Merchant Valtur
    • Paradis Militia Instructor
    • Flint
    • Outlaw Apprentice
    • Outlaw Thug
    • Sparrowhawk Twinblade
    • Sparrowhawk Wastrel
    • Sparrowhawk Sentinel
    • Sparrowhawk Bowman
    • Sparrowhawk Kneebreaker
    • Sparrowhawk Arquebusier
    • Smuggler Apprentice
    • Smuggler Lackey
    • Desperate Smuggler
    • Smuggler Duelist
    • Smuggler Arquebusier
    • Yellowband Outlaw
    • Yellowband Ringleader
    • Bandit Bowman
    • Highwayman Bruiser
    • Bandit
    • Highwayman Barbarian
    • Nacib
    • Octav the Firebrand
    • Tempestuous Luandi
    • Total Male Humans: 24
  2. Female Human NPCs:
    • Dehengen
    • Concerned Mother
    • Concerned Father
    • Merchant Dagherda
    • Sanza
    • Malthea
    • Grysca
    • Gweneth
    • Liviana
    • Lynna
    • Marynna
    • Merylin
    • Ralga
    • Total Female Humans: 13

Summary:

  • Total Male NPCs (Human + Non-human): 24
  • Total Female NPCs (Human + Non-human): 13
  • Total Non-Human NPCs: 16
This shows a strong presence of male human NPCs (24), followed by female human NPCs (13), and a considerable number of non-human NPCs (16), especially from species like Xaurips and animals (bears, spiders). The male NPCs are clearly dominant in the human category, while non-humans mostly add variety in the form of creatures and beasts.

Sure, I'll put a few examples under spoiler tags to not crowd the page.

You'll find more posts quoting one or more of these kind of replies with similar affirming zingers.

Placing bets that you have to play as another character at some point in the game, girl boss etc.
Well, you can already see the ugly women surrounding Indy in this trailer. You can bet they will outsmart him at everything and Indy will be the silly comedic relief when they are around.

I'm sure there's more if I scan through the various Reviews topics etc, but this should give you an idea of what I meant.

Here are the males and females in Dawnshore per fextralife

Females

Militia Captain Cynric

Liviana
Lynna
Marynna
Merchant (Militia Headquarters)
Merylin
Merchant (The Catch)

12

Males

Eh....I mean....definitely more females but not enough to get fussed about, imo. Seems like the ideal situation for a single man...

I don’t mean that women should stay in the kitchen and raise children, but the ratio of women to men in important roles seems absurd to me, at least at the stage I'm currently at in the game. There should be some balance. Just entering the first major town is enough to see it.

Between that other forum where everything is a concern and has potential to get you banned, and this place where people count the number of women in games, is there a normal place left online to discuss gaming? Not asking for much, really.

There is an OT for this game if you want to talk about it specifically and not stuff that comes out of the reviews. This is the "reviews" thread, you know.

Doesn't look like "50/50" to me.

according to Fextralife, the vast majority of villains/bad guys in Dawnfall are male, so the NPC count seems to skew in favor of men if you count all NPCs

this is probably why when I was watching Asmon's stream it felt like men were everywhere

once you get into story and vendors it becomes more skewed towards women a bit. looks like merchants in Dawnfall is 7 women 5 men

(I can't believe you assholes have me doing this math lol, I should really just pay the deluxe edition price tag and hop in)

Its easy to laugh at Skyrim's combat when the game came out in 2011 and there were no other big open world rpg's with better combat on consoles

The combat was also hardly ever the draw of the TES games.

So the thing you do the most in it fucking sucks. Brilliant. Also this came out 5 years before Skyrim

I have no issue with the lead baddies being male

I can probably count on one hand the amount of video games that had well written female antagonists

more often than not it just comes off as cringe

I'm more bummed that you can't kill NPCs
I was just being cheeky. "What little men we have in contrast, they're just evil." 🤭

I don't care either way, I too prefer males being the villain more so, unless they're properly done like in Uncharted 3 (as an example). But old wealthy white British women always excelled in the villain roles.

Maybe. Some people might have gone in looking for woke and found evidence of it, then exaggerated that evidence. That's certainly possible. We often see what we are prepared to see. Otoh, it isn't just one person, it is several, so there may be something to it.

And apart from bean-counting genders, there may be room for legitimate disagreement about any "agenda" present, since different people will interpret scenes and characters differently, depending on their own politics, sensitivities, and so forth.

I am not curious enough to find out myself. I'm more concerned about other problems that the game seems to have (e.g., story, characters, dialog, interactivity, lore dumps, art design).

Depends how you play it, thats why people love TES, not the combat.

Same with Kingdome Come Deliverance.

The combat is hardly the draw of the game. Even if you are using it a lot (usually)
