I didn't know you could pay the extra 20-25 bucks at game pass to play the game earlier. I will definitely make use of this at Doom: The Dark Ages when it will be advanced access.

main leaders and quest givers in the game being women - and women who supposedly have really rough backstories that don't match their appearance/voice - "6 years on a slave ship but look like they've never broken a fingernail."
Most of the main leaders and quest givers in the game are not woman. The balance seems to be 50/50, with plenty of important men about. For example the very first person you need to report to regarding your orders from your Emperor (a man) is the Ambassador (another man). The leader of one of the factions just after the starting city is another man.

As for the woman guard not looking like an ex slave, this is a high fantasy D&D inspired setting with all the silliness that implies. Healing magic is next level overpowered, up to resurrecting the recent dead. You believe in a specific conviction and ideal hard enough and you can then set your sword on fire with your belief. Or you can become a mini-hulk if you simply get angry enough. Trying to apply historical standards when it comes to a setting where superpowers are so prevalent has never made sense. You see the exact same thing happen in D&D, as in the Neverwinter Nights or Baldurs Gate games.

Yeah. They don't know what the fuck they're talking about. I can name some more male leaders in the starting area but I'd be spoiling.

Pana, pick a non Nintendo 10/10 game, any. I'll find you bugs and technical issues with it.
I am sure you can find some bugs and technical issues if you really try but a.) this is the reviewer’s putting their hands forward and b.) are you saying this is a 10/10 game? Seems a bit of an outlier… will read the rest of the review if it is really raving and convincing.

I've seen others gel with this game in the likes that its obsidian's best yet and some that its obsidian's worst

If you understand french (?)

there's two extremes from two reviewers I respect

The negative reviewer is mostly throwing daggers at what his imaginary Obsidian perfect RPG could have been. And yea, it could have been, but this is a different game. After most of their cRPGs have been neglected by the market, including their GOATS like KOTOR 2 & PoE tanking in sales, it seems they're trying a different path and so far, some peoples really dig it for what it is. Some don't. That's fine.

I think if Avowed had not been attached to Obsidian name it would have reviewed way better. Expectations were muddy (including me), the previews did a shit job explaining the type of game it is RPG wise (well the city was locked from preview).

Why not try it yourself?

At best you find a cool game even if not 10/10, at worse you wasted a what... $1 gamepass deal? I'm waiting Tuesday release to play and form my own opinion, just like I did with Starfield and ended up hating it after completing it. At least Avowed has a world hand crafted with parkour and secrets, that's already 10x more enthralling than random generated planets.

No beed, I am still hooked till 2027 I think, I went on a stupid PSN+ Premium and GamePass Ultimate trip a good while ago like an idiot so that should cover me :p.

I will give it a try, Indiana Jones before, now Astro Bot, and then…. Mmmh… we will see :).

That's so true. I've spent over 15 hours in the game, and I can guarantee that 95% of the NPCs with any significant roles are women. They practice herbalism, work as merchants and blacksmiths, and even stand guard in heavy armor. Even the antagonist is a woman. This game is full of ideology.

So we've got some contradicting takes here between you and ManaByte ManaByte . Interesting. I will say that in the videos I saw the women in heavy armor looked pretty absurd. It is as if the designer said "let's put them in armor that was actually made for a man".

Two more days for me...

That’s what I read too, to the point that peoples are saying the world is built to immersive sim quality levels which is a huge WTF and takes a lot of effort.
If you have played Grounded, level design and exploration is some of the best out there.

I see a lot of learning from that game being applied here.

I haven't played it yet but watched some of Asmon's stream and didn't notice an unusually high proportion of women. for what its worth, this is something Asmon always calls out and he didn't say a single about it

if seeing some women made you that triggered that it kept you from enjoying the game, you need to get your head checked

again it sounds like some of you are legit gay and are pissed your game doesn't have more men

funny enough this is one of the few times I've seen Asmon play a game where he isn't button mashing through the story part. he is actually reading the dialogue and following the story. I'm so used to him just skipping the story/tutorial then complaining that the game doesn't explain itself

There are griftees in here complaining about women wearing armor or being blacksmiths when you can see that in the real world dating back to at least the Middle Ages and yet here in this world of sorcery and Gods and magic, it’s not feasible. You can’t rationally talk to these people.

Not true.

It’s a high fantasy, D&D style RPG game. Were you this upset 26 years ago when Baldurs Gate 1 came out and we had woman Paladins wearing heavy armor? Or woman guards? Or Neverwinter Nights from 23 years ago that had the primary Paladin of the game wearing plate and being a woman as well?

It’s also a odd argument, do you think plate armor is heavy or something? It’s a mere 15kg that is fitted so the entire weight is spread across your entire body. You can even do back flips in it. It’s doubly odd when you realise that magic enchanted items exist, you can be a woman with near zero muscle mass but wear that shiny belt and you suddenly have the strength equivalent of a literal giant. Or pray to your diety and get blessed with unlimited stamina. Or be really good with animals and get the ability to shit out thunder.

I can get the argument from a zero magic or low magic setting, but something like this (or Baldurs Gate, Elder Scrolls, etc) where magic and superhuman abilities is as common as dirt makes it a bit silly.

Do people really keep a count of how many women or men there are in their game. How many men or women give out quests? Etc. seems like a worthless thing to pay attention to, imo.

It's something people will notice more if the roles these women are being cast in to are not believable and break immersion. This is especially true if the writing makes it so that the men who do exist in the world are vilified.

lol....what? This is being discussed because it was brought up by other reviewers. Most of us, like you, haven't played it. Just because asmongold didn't notice anything doesn't mean other reviewers are wrong. If it is bullshit then we will all know soon enough. Time to chill out a bit my man.

Asmon isn't a review, its was just him streaming the first few hours

you don't need to play the game yourself to know what it is in the game. you can go watch this right now.

also I hope I didn't come off as angry - I have nothing against gays. you guys do you

To be fair to them, back then there wasn’t an army of grifters riling them up and telling them how to feel about this nonsense.

I didn't say asmongold was a reviewer. I said "other reviewers" pointed this out. Like I said, I'll judge it for myself on Tuesday so I don't need to watch anything.

But I get it my man. Your wife/girl wears the pants and this is hitting too close to home.

I meant he didn't provide a review, he streamed the first few hours. your position that you need to play it first is nonsense.

can you explain how playing it yourself mysteriously makes more women pop into the game?

you guys give the left talking points with how stupid you sound

Ok. So, the the rumor of the game being female dominant was a lie.

I played some of the game yesterday. It is really good. I am enjoying the rope a dope combat in it. It actually feels like real combat.

There is lots of hidden stuff i the tutorial area. I am trying to find the hidden area in the waterfall area.

you guys really think women didn't do herbalism back then? or wore armor?
Historical woman warriors were very rare due to sexual dimorphism that favours men with superior strength and stamina. Hence something like Kingdom Come having no woman knights, because that is accurate to the setting.

But Avowed is a high fantasy setting with superpowers and enchanted items being as common as dirt. So having a woman be as strong as 10 men with the right enchantments or magic is perfectly possible. It’s been like this in high fantasy fiction for over 40 years now. Even Chinese Wuxia novels have woman martial artists slaughtering hundreds due to the power of their chi.

Not sure why some have a problem with it now. Maybe they are just not that familiar with high fantasy.

We have ourselves and old fashioned GafMexican standoff.

Or a PokeGaf battle!

How else am I going to know firsthand if these claims that the game is "95%" women are bullshit or not? We've got some people saying one thing and others saying something else. So it is "nonsense" that I want to judge for myself? Really?

Playing it myself won't make "more women pop into the game". That doesn't make sense.

Says the guy throwing around "gay" as an insult.
