Avowed |OT| Is an oath worth the weight of a crown?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
The game looks beautiful for the most part (some things look rough) and it runs well on Series X in quality mode with unlocked frame rate/VRR.

Does it feel like Quality w/ Unlocked slot in well into the VRR range?

So far to me what sounds the most interesting is player mobility and the supposed verticality and platforming. Someone here mentioned Mirrors Edge and Dying Light? If this is really the case then it's weird I'm not hearing more about it. That actually sounds like a standout characteristic of the experience that you don't get in something like a Skyrim.

I'll probably check it out whenever it comes to PS5 at a decent price and all cleaned up. Don't feel like peepin it on the S.

Mostly echoing what others have said but I’m also really enjoying this (about 3 hours in). I was worried about the combat when it was revealed but clearly a lot has been improved since then and it’s fun to play. I think the menus are a little clunky at first but I’ve gotten used to them. It very much feels like an Elder Scrolls game with more polish, but of course some items in the environment are static comparatively. The music is also good but not as memorable as Oblivion/Skyrim. Can’t say much about the story but I’ve liked the characters so far. I was initially skeptical about the game but I’m glad I gave it a shot and I can’t wait to get back to it later.

I've been using Balanced. Quality on an OLED is just brutal.

I experienced some screen tearing during the tutorial level but it’s mostly been solid. It’s possible I could experience it again but for the most part it seems to stay within the range.

Hmm, sounds good but if it tears it means it has potential to drop out of the VRR range.

I'm probably gonna stick with the Balanced mode. Based on the DF video, outside of some small vegetation difference, it looks virtually identical, retains all the Lumen effects too.

Way to deep into KCD2, but may check this out afterwards for a more simple streamlined RPG. Hopefully some of the employee's radical comments and views didn't impact the game in any way whatsoever.

Five hours in. Haven’t left the first area yet. Finished the main quest there but am mopping up the side quests. I love how diplomacy actually works. Just got the achievement for peacefully solving five conflicts.

Got this dagger off a boss. Now I'm dealing fire and poison(critical hits) damage. The thing about the fire is once it accumulates enough and they are set ablaze they take burning damage over time and they seem to get stunned far easier. That finisher you can land when they are stunned does hella damage. The damage over time from poisoning them is just ok but every little helps. Game is great.

I have the day off today and I've been playing Avowed since I rolled outta bed. There's so much to do! This game scratches the Skyrim itch very, very well.

I'm going pure Wizard so far. Some points into the main attack spells works wonders. Fire goes from single hand to dual hand, etc. So much fun to use in battle. In general, I'm loving the battle system very much. You're definitely able to get in over your head with 3-skull enemies and such, which is fantastic.

I hit a pretty big bug with the main quest: Without spoiling anything, there's an option you're given to let a would-be assassin go, and even if I did so, immediately following the cut-scenes/talking scenes, he and his group would be aggro. I reloaded several times, no matter what I did, if I let them go peacefully, we'd be in battle after the scenes played out.

I ended up just running far away, not killing anyone, and it seems to have worked. Still, annoying. I'm playing via Game Pass Ultimate on PC.

Bugs/CTDs aside, I'm REALLY loving this game!

That didn’t happen to me when I let him go.

I think Avowed will do fine, especially considering it's budget, but grabbing the top spot on Steam for a few hours really doesn't tell us much. It's like Matt Piscatella praising Indy for charting second on the Circana charts the week it launched. What else was it going against?

I’m playing a Ranger, bow on one set and then dagger + grimoire on the other. So far it’s been a ton of fun picking off a few mobs from a group then cleaning up the rest with dagger & magic

Also runs pretty solid on PC. Only had one hard lock/crash in 4 hours

What have you been investing your points in? Have you found any good uniques? Don't forget in your camp storage there should be some special equipment for buying the premium edition i believe.

Game looks incredible. Tempted to buy it early just so I can play now but its very hard to justify this when it’s coming to game pass
Game is fun for me, but I’d say not at the level of needing to buy it for the early access. I just had some balance on battle.net and thought why not?

Yeah, I don’t think I could actually buy the Deluxe Edition or whatever just to play it a week early, although it does seem exactly like the sort of game I love

NV is one of my GOATs though. I like Obsidian

I was living a lie for three hours. Balanced mode is the way to go.

Yes. I'm interested in your thoughts on the game. Especially since you plan on playing on the highest difficulty. I just bumped it up to the highest my last session. I believe it the best way to play it.

So I’ve been playing this on my daughter’s Xbox Series X that I “appropriated” until my new GPU arrives on Monday. I’ve had zero crashes or technical hiccups so far playing on balanced mode, can anyone say how it is on PC in terms of stability?
