that was exactly what many feared when they kept cramming heroes into this thing.

Sad to see that it came out exactly as many expected

You could have called this from years away. Nothing about the way they rushed this shit made sense. This whole thing is a travesty, even worse because apparently Ben Affleck made a decent Batman.

God I can't imagine how bad Suicide Squad is gonna be. They have no idea what they are doing.

All this Marvel talk just reminds me why I enjoy their movies more. I think the main reason people like Avengers and Marvel movies in general is that they are not just dark, serious movies. They know they are comic book superhero movies and they have a good balance of fun humour, serious drama and action.

Avengers is not the best Marvel movie but it's a fun as hell movie, but they also have the more serious stuff like Winter Soldier, which is one of the best comic book movies ever made and Gaurdians of the Galaxy, which again is a really fun movie with a great mix of everything.

WB and DC just seem to be in full on serious mode all the time though, a bit of humour and maybe something not quite so dark wouldn't be a bad thing. I mean they have Batman as the serious character, so why not give Superman a bit more personality, more like Captain America, it just seems like it's taking itself way to serious and forgets to add a little bit of fun to the mix.

That's why i love the Marvel movies. It's a smorgasbord filled with different superheroes with varying backgrounds and tones.

The problem isn't that they're "too serious". The problem is that these movies are just badly done. Most Batman comics for the last few decades can be pretty fucking serious. Hell, Black Mirror is a great read, but I wouldn't call it fun or funny. Tone isn't the issue - approach is. Superman should be lighter, sure, absolutely, but he can still be a lighter character in a dark story.

We have free passes to see it tonight but I kinda wanna tell my wife I don't wanna go. I have a feeling I am just going to be depressed after I watch it. Fuck, man.

Just came back from seeing this and now I understand why the reviews are lower than Man of Steel, which is actually a more coherent movie. That might be hard to believe, but hooooooo boy is this movie a mess! But it's a lovable mess that tries REALLY hard (bless you, Based God Snyder) and personally I think every GAFer should see it, if only 'cause some segments are straight up from the Arkham games. Also, it is going to fuel message board arguments for the next decade, no doubt about it.

I will post more spoiler filled impressions in the spoiler thread, but here's some quick thoughts...

THE DOPE

- BATFLECK THE GOD. Srs, Batman had to dive bomb into this movie to save the day and Ben put in work. He does a shitload of un-Batman like things that were riffed from The Dark Knight Returns, which I feel like Synder and Terrio both obviously loved but probably didn't understand very well...BUT I WAS WILLING TO FORGIVE ALL BECAUSE HIS PERFORMANCE SAVED THIS DAMN MOVIE. Also him and Jeremy Irons spit some witty fire at each other.
- Wonder Woman rocks. I know where those early tweets saying she got standing ovations came from. Also she has the best music.
- Doomsday final boss fight is pretty good tbh

THE NOT AS DOPE

- Superman gets the shaft hard in this movie and Cavill cannot compete against the acting chomps of Batfleck the God. This movie will not help those "moping, sad Superman" arguments at all.
- The reasoning for Bats to fight Supes is pretty damn weak
- The script. Whoever came up with that pic of Terrio standing with FALSE GOD on his chest is on the nose; because the script, no matter what you heard, AIN'T THAT GOOD. It's filled with quasi-intellectual metaphors and mythology illusions, and the characters literally talk about the nature of life like they're in a mid 90's Japanese RPG at times. (GAF might see this as a positive actually; some of the lines are so bad they are funny)

THE WTF

- Really was not feeling Lex Luthor. Soon as he came on screen, I wanted to punch him and that feeling lasted till the end.
- The poorly structured nature of the movie's first hour - this is where all those rotten tomatoes are coming from because there are just too many random story moments pieced together incoherently for the film to be considered a "good" one, at least in its beginning half. Those critics sadly are not working under a Marvel conspiracy - they're just calling bullshit when they see it, and this first act got cut to hell and back. The extended Blu-ray might fix things up a bit, but ya, bullshit.

To sum things up, it's kind of a magnificent trainwreck with some epic fanservice moments which make it entertaining and worth watching at least once. It's kinda like the comic book movie version of Advent Children.

Will BvS hurt my brain like MOS did? Stuff like Lois Lane, the tornado, the poor CGI fights and Supes' complete disregard for human life?

I have tickets for Friday. I really want to see it, to either enjoy or laugh at. I just don't want to be bored.

Did you like Man of Steel?
Do you like Zack Snyder movies?

If the answer to either is yes, you'll be fine.

Maybe? Lois is dumb, no tornado, no poor CGI, Supes cares about people

Nah they good

A well done Blue Marvel might kill the prospect of a Superman movie for good.

Guys I think I'm okay with this, because It seems Ben is a good Batman. I know I'm getting my Batman solo movies no matter what. I know some you guys are saying "I'm tired of Batman" Well I'm don't know what tell you shouldn't have Snyder lame ass do Superman. Batgawd is okay also give me that TT movies which you know Robin will be the biggest focus. You know what WB just fuck everything else just give me Bat-family related stuff.

OMG how are they going to do Red Hood if Batman kills

Disappointeddddddd

Going to see it anyway. Even if it's makes a shit ton of money, I wonder if it being a critical failure will have any impact on JL or if it even happens.

"Yo, this movie makes no sense" really made me laugh for some reason.

Haha for me, "Holly Hunter in world-historical IDGAF mode. You guessed it. Holly plays Senator Finch (a Democrat from Kentucky, which is the least believable thing in the film) " was a great one.

What Snyder sees in these timeless characters is raw, herculean power, and little else; he pushes them closer to abstract icons of fascist supremacy than they’ve possibly ever been pushed, either paying lip service to or outright ignoring the values they’ve always stood for.

How can someone mess up their values? lol

I think Suicide Squad is going to be just fine, or at least, the biggest problems here aren't suddenly going to manifest themselves in that film. It's an ensemble piece by definition, not a thinly veiled statement of intent to ram a series of future properties down the public's throat. That means the creative team there can focus purely on the quality of that movie, its story and its characters, without worrying about the nebulous bigger picture.

Any spinoffs that might develop out of that (Harley and Joker) will likely be on the merits, and not ginned up by clueless studio execs.

Damn it doesn't seem to be getting much better a day later. Terrible man.

Anyways I have to agree with the earlier posts about tone. DC movies don't have to be as lightweight and juggle comedy and drama like Marvel does at all. Its perfectly possible to have the DCEU be more dramatic and serious.

They just seem to be failing at executing it properly. That doesn't mean the goal isn't valid or possible.

Don't get me wrong, I like a dark story too, but Superman in MoS and from what I've seen and heard, in BvS should be a little lighter than what he is.

100% agreed on the movies being badly done though, I mean Green Lantern had humour but damn that movie was bad and so for most DC movies have gone for a dark serious tone, and there is way more bad than good at the moment. It just seems WB can't nail this dark style, so maybe a change of direction is needed, or at least get some better directors than Zack Snyder.

Precisely.

The review itself is good, but how can you know if the script is good or not, just by the dialog? A bad director with a good script won't release an excellent film.

The dialogue is like the overwrought stuff from The Dark Knight Rises but twenty times worse. The best you can say is that sometimes it feels like it's channeling shades of Grant Morrison, but it really needed to be dialed back. And Lex Luthor talks like a goddamn Xenogears villain with his ridiculous metaphors.

It will hurt your brain a little to see how lame they made Superman this time and how hard they try to push the "HE'S A GODDDDD!!!!" angle in your face. But thankfully Batman and Wondie are there to balance shit out and eventually you will just be laughing at the ridiculousness of it all. The first half hour or so might be a tad boring (more like confusing, really) but the rest is enjoyable for what it is.

This review actually assuaged my concerns about the film! I can admire a glorious disasters as long it appears they fucking tried. Like "yeah this dish is...not that good...but I admire your ideas and what you attempted to accomplish. I might even order it again sometime."
