This is the most disgusting thread I've ever seen at GAF. Yuo all should be ****ing ashamed of yourselves, you're all terrible people. Yes, Ben was too cocky, yes, he had to pay the price. But look what the **** happened to him, thats ****ing serious as hell. His career is probably over now, the team is losing a huge star, and you ****ers sit here and laugh about it. I just can't ****ing believe you guys.
So I should pity a millionaire football player who was too cocky to wear a helmet while riding his bike?

No thanks.

just don't think you guys could win another superbowl even with your team intact (which it wasn't going to be anyways). all the pieces fell into place for you in last years playoffs. if palmer doesn't get hurt, or the patriots beat the broncos, or the colts gameplan for blitzing or even the chiefs beating the cowboys instead of choking you guys don't win it. i realize this is a lot of if's, which is my point: steelers were extemely fortunate last year and i dont feel they are a superbowl calibur team this year

Even with Palmer hurt their QB was still on fire and so was the team. I was still worried even with the replacement because they were playing as though it didn't make a difference. Which says a lot about the Bengals as a team. However, I don't think it would have made a difference, we still would have won that game.

The Patriots didn't beat the Broncos because the Broncos played better. Yet we beat the Broncos; who's to say we wouldn't have been able to beat the Patriots with the way they were playing?

And what about the Colts gameplan? We simply outplayed them, nothing else to say really.

I never said another Super Bowl is anywhere close to being in the bag but it is within the realm of possibility. I realize it's very rare to win more than one unless you're the Patriots or something, but don't count us out.

Seriously, though, I don't see how some people think these two thoughts are mutually incompatible:

1) It is a terrible shame that Roethlisberger is injured like this, and it will be a loss to football in general if his career ends here.
2) Anyone who rides a motorbike without due care and attention (and that includes wearing a helmet, Ben) is responsible for the consequences to themselves, and is also - on some level - an idiot.

It's not rocket science.

Should you act like you aren't sensative at all? Yeah, he was cocky. Yeah, it was a huge mistake. But how people can joke and pick apart this guys flaws at a TIME LIKE THIS is just inhuman and disgusting.

Are you new to this forum or something? Ben isn't the first or even the biggest celebrity to be ripped when something bad happened... be happy the f*cker is still alive.

all a matter of opinion, but palmer gets them into the endzone a few more times and the offense doesn't stall so much (keeping pittsburghs defense on the field).

also, you ignored the chiefs completely choking against the cowboys. if that doesn't happen the steelers don't even see the playoffs. as i said, every team needs a little luck, i just can't see the steelers reaching the superbowl anytime in the near future again. then again i said the samething about the patriots :D

I didn't expect us to be the New England Patriots II or a repeat of the 70's Steelers, but this really rubs it in, and if Ben can't play the same or at all... chances of winning another Super Bowl in the next few years will be very hard. I wasn't expecting another dynasty, but at least one more win this decade could have (and hopefully still is) possible.

Well it's one thing to say it was a dumb decision and he was being stupid. I'll agree with that. Nobody should feel bad for saying that; Ben ****ed up.

But all of these insults are just ridiculous. It's generally not a good idea to make fun of someone when they're hurting, dying, or dead. For example, Willco's discussion about this entire ordeal is nothing but a big flaming troll consisting of insults and that's just absurd in my opinion.

Like I said, there's lots of people I hate, but I would not want to kick them while they're down unless that person is one evil bastard.

That is how all non-Steeler fans are. They just have no heart and no class. I mean some of these jokers actually cheer for the Patriots.

That aside, Ben was retarded for riding a bike without a helmet (if true). Just like I dog Shaq for being a fat piece of shit when he is paid 30 million a year, I am also going to criticize Ben for not taking care of himself when he is paid so much money. Still it is pretty cold hearted to joke about someone almost dying right afterwards. Jokes might have been more appropriate during the season when he is 100%. The only exceptions for this might be Tom Brady and Jordan.

If ****ing Tommy Maddox wasn't the most quarterback outside of San Francisco it never would have come to that. Jerome Bettis could have quarterbacked us to wins against the Jags and Ravens so your argument is stupid.

gee what a surprise steelers fans are up-in-arms about all the jokes. i don't see you guys complaining when we make fun of troy aikmans/steve youngs concussions (which ended their careers and are incredibly serious), i don't see you complaining when people make fun of joe theissman breaking his leg, i don't see you complaining when we make fun of magic johnson having aids.

you are just bitching because now that it's someone from YOUR team who is in danger. boo ****ing hoo

shit that is terrible if his career is over. i wouldn't jump to any conclusions until the autorities/doctors have had more time to examine him. what people have to understand is that athletes aren't like us. they have obligations to their employer who is paying them more in a year than most of us will make in a lifetime. if i were a professional athlete, i would not be riding motorcycles, jumping out of airplanes, hanging out in clubs with my posse late at night, or anything else that stupid.

and to the guy who is bitching about everyone saying "i told you so!" get a grip dude. NO ONE is saying "YESSSS!!! gentle ben is going to die lets celebrate!" i think everyone wants him to pull through this and be ok, but at the sametime you do have to criticize ben's decision to ride a motorcycle and to do so WITHOUT A HELMET! whether he is ok or not ok that was a ****ing stupid decision on his part, especially considering his stature and what he does for a living.
100%, and well-said.

If you're being paid millions of dollars per year because of what your body can do, then you need to do everything in your power to maintain that body in good shape. Taking a huge risk by riding a motorcycle -- even with a helmet -- is flat-out stupid and irresponsible.

Like I said before. It is in poor taste to do the jokes when he might die on the operating table. It wouldn't bother me if you took shots at his stupidity when he was healthy again.

your sentence doesn't even make sense! you were thinking about hot stuff alex smith and you were at a loss for words! "wasn't the most quarterback"?! pffft! admit your love for alex... ADMIT IT!!!11

WHO DEY!?
The saddest thing about this in terms of the NFL is Palmer/Roethlisberger was shaping up to be an awesome intradivision QB rivalry, and now that probably is not going to happen.

I wasn't around here for those jokes, but I assure you I'd feel the same way. I'm a Steelers/Bengals fan, so you can imagine the emotions I was going through during the playoff game last year.

But still, those injuries are indeed serious and I would NOT joke about them. And this case is even worse: Ben could have DIED, his jaw is broken, his teeth are totally gone, his knees are ****ed, and I guarantee somethnig along the lines of a concussion as well. This is way worse then the other ones, and eve worse to joke about it when this happened only a few hours ago.

You didn't see me jumping on the bandwagon and making fun of these people with everyone else, though, did you? No, you didn't. Of course it wouldn't make me as upset because I'm not a fan. That doesn't mean I think these athletes deserve to be hurt or something just because they're not Ben Roethlisberger. And as I said before, generally speaking, it's wrong to insult ANYONE, athlete, common man or some bum, I don't care, that seriously gets hurt or dies because of something like this.

See above. You're misunderstanding me. I agree 100% that Ben is a moron for doing what he did. I'm not gonna piss on him though.

Wait ... so was the accident her fault or his?

Based on her description, it sounds like it might be hers. If that is the case, you can certainly yell at him for not wearing a helmet. But it appears the injuries to his face are not the ones that will affect his career ... the injuries to his knees will. A helmet would have done nothing to prevent that.

:(

Actually, Diablos isn't even that big a Steelers fan, we never heard from him until he appeared after last season and he lectured us on the Steelers/Browns rivalry:p

Either way, bionic man...."die on the operating table"? He's getting jaw surgery, it's pretty tough to die during that I'm guessing, probably has high survivability.:lol

Yea, it seems pretty certain he is going to live. The eye witness said he almost tried to get up at one point after the accident. Doesn't change the fact that laughing at him isn't the right thing to do.

For clarification for all those claiming its just steelers fans; I dont give a shit about the NFL. College football is where it is at.

dude, NO ONE WANTS BEN TO DIE! have a god damn sense of humor. yes it is a serious condition. yes everyone wants him to pull through (even willco! wow!) but this is gaf. did you think everyone was going to be somber? kellen winslow could have died after his motorcycle crash. why weren't you saying "Whoa guys! hey! lets not make fun of kellen! his career could be over or he could be dead! come on!" no you didn't. if you simply "ignored" those posts (despite the fact that you didn't condone them) why can't you simply "ignore" the posts that people are making about toothless ben, etc?

Do you personally know how bad the injury is? They seem to be trying to cover up how bad it is. I doubt they would rush him to the ER to operate right afterwards to fix up his knees, it is obviously something serious they are working on.

You are right though. He rode a motorcycle without a helmet and he deserves whatever he gets and no one should show any sympathy or respect for him (not even for a day). It wasn't like he murdered someone...

It is just his jaw? I thought it was something more serious? If that is the case, then it obviously isn't life threatening. I just thought the way they rushed him to the ER it must be something really bad.

Jaw, left sinus, face and both knees from most reports.

I'm really not that big of a Football or sports fan, period. I enjoy watching some Football and Soccer, but it's not my life like it is for some other people (nothing wrong with that, but I'm not a sports freak). I have always liked the Steelers though, so of course I started talking more when we were hot last year. I've stuck with the team through good and bad times, not as some uber-l33t fan but someone who simply appreciates their legacy and what they're also trying to accomplish (and what they have already accomplished) today.

While yeah, he might not have been paying attention - from a legal standpoint, if she was into the intersection to make a turn (blocking his lane) while it was a green light ... it's her fault.
