Imagine if they would have kept reiterating and improving Snap Map from 2016, like a 2.0 version in Eternal, bigger more options, ect .
And then followed *that* up with yet another version, let’s say 3.0 in DarkAges, yet even more improvements and options.
Would have been badass.

- The whole tag line the devs mention of “in 2016 we asked you to run and gun, in eternal we asked you to jump and shoot, in Doom Dark ages you will stand and fight”… uh… what?
In Doom Eternal, you have to constantly jump, strafe, quick switch to kill demons.

I guess in The Dark Ages, there is a greater emphasis on counter attacks / parrying hence the 'stand and fight' tag-line.

Easier than doing Quake maps on something like Trenchbroom? It's not just making the shape of the map, but also filling them with tons of details, props and stuff, which would be way more complicated than any mesh you see in a Quake map.

Even if the nuDOOMs allowed for easy integration of custom maps, I would still assume there would be far less people working on it than there are working on DOOM or Quake maps just because they would take a fuckton of work to develop, unless you are fine with using already made assets present in the nuDOOMs.

But yeah, that's probably never going to happen so it's just assumptions.
I mean visual editors with very intuitive tool sets like Unreal Engine are arguably easier to get results from than TrenchBroom and WorldCraft. Those editors themselves are relatively recent relative to Quake’s 1996 release and both were created by the community. TrenchBroom only exists because id released the Quake source code.

I appreciate that Zenimax and now Microsoft likely want to protect their investment and keep the technology to themselves, but it means that unless something changes in the future, we shouldn’t expect any of the recent id games to stand the test of time like Doom 2 and Quake have done and that’s a shame.

Maybe, but without releasing the source code that would require them to spend money, time, and personnel resources maintaining it. It would alleviate some of my concerns but unless end users could upload their own assets and modify the codebase it would be too limited to see large-scale adoption I think.

I feel like once that got to PC people would find a way to mess with it.
And of course, given Dooms history, they absolutely should release modding tools for people to use.

Okay so seriously WTF is wrong with the price? So EU 79,99€ vs US $69.99
1:1 conversions we are used to but this is very weird, already saw similar shit when Until Dawn dropped, not cool at all even if you take one favorite Cdkeys.com into account

EUR is performing like ass, and US price doesn't include sales tax.

By the way, it might be stupid to ask, is the trailer from xbox? With all that effects, frenzied action and allot characters on the screen, will that be demanding to current consoles? I plan to buy a physical copy for my ps5 slim, I will be contented just to see it at 4k at 60pfs without RT and with RT at 4k at 40 or 50 fps will suffice.

These fucking Doom Eternal apologists... It's nice that you enjoyed it, but quite a lot of people didn't. I'm one of them and I loved Doom 2016. I finished eternal, but in the end it felt like chore to me. That doesn't mean I'm "bad at games", it means the game was not fun for me. And it was apparently not fun for a lot of other people as well. Good that they recognise that. If they wouldn't, I probably would not buy this one.

I've been gaming since the early 90's. I finished easy games, hard games and everything in between. But only when I had fun. Doom Eternal was not fun for me. I hope this one is again and I have good hopes it will be.

This. And the comical vibrant art style in Eternal also was underwhelming.
