Thought this was pretty cool.
It's all about finding a style you enjoy. BHF is very good, but it's also fun to use the L2s.I've been on and off this game for the past year. Beat Godrick last night! Was using a Lordsworn Straight Sword and shield and switched to the Bloodhound Fang. Really starting to enjoy this game now. In Lucaria right now heading after Rennala.
I'm not disagreeing with your review, but I would like to provide my insight into the style of storytelling that Elden Ring presents.Gave it another shot after 2 years and first attempt with samurai build. This time went with shield field and game was way easier so managed to finish it. Game is realy addictive, I sometimes thought about it another day during work and thats not happen often too me. World is realy impressive and amount of secrets its stunning. Graphics are rather weak (way below demon souls remake) but thx too art direction it can looks awsome. Narration is imo terrible, puting scraps of info in weapons description is cheap approach. Had to watch long youtube videos to briefly understand what happened and why (and its still far from being coherent). I heard Elden Ring show a way of how to develop open world games. Imo its far from being truth, its good because its very obscure with secrets but its far from telling good story and thats why it can have this no direction open structure (I dont remember even one npc that I would get connected with not too mention connecting with mute main character is not easy at all ;d). Also without online guides I would be nowhere near finishing it (it tooks me 70h with guides!) and would pass on it bored/frustrated without them. In summary its very good game 8.5/10 but Im surprised with so many 10/10 scores, imo it shouldnt be reviewed only by souls fans.
I fought Radahn a couple of time and decided to move on and start Armored Core. By the time I reached him I had my fill. What I enjoyed the most in ER was exploration anyways, not the bosses. I did love some of them like Relanna and Midra, but Radahn was just too much. I didn’t feel the need to prove to myself that I can beat him - especially since there is no worthwhile ending to watch. There are so many games I’d rather spend my time on rather than fight Radahn. To the one person who left a message in the Consort Radahn arena (where I couldn’t switch items, but switched actions) and screwed up my best run in probably 8 hours… fuck you.
(I finally got it after probably another 5 hours over three days… with my last run literally going to be the last one before i deleted it from my hard drive).
That is easily the hardest and “worst” boss From has ever done. That was awful and viciously unfun. When I beat it, I felt nothing but relief and continued anger at it.
What a terrible end to an otherwise masterpiece of a game.
You are more mature than me in trying to prove to yourself you can beat it. I was pissed off for two weeks.I fought Radahn a couple of time and decided to move on and start Armored Core. I used the sword in my run of elden ring. Was going to jump back in and beat the last 2 hero tombs. I have. I’ve been using the moonlight great sword but heard it got totally nerfed. Is that true? Anything else I should know? Haven’t played in around 7 or 8 months and I’m on the vanilla version. Ps5 if that matters.
Any nerfs are part of a greater balancing effort of all weapons. The OP specifics were toned down, while other general and specific things were buffed. A few examples:Was going to jump back in and beat the last 2 hero tombs. I have. I’ve been using the moonlight great sword but heard it got totally nerfed. Is that true? Anything else I should know? I rolled my game version back to take back my beloved Bloodhound Step and undo all the pre-DLC nerf shenanigans. Only thing I even slightly miss is the NPC invasion spot at Writheblood Ruins.Any nerfs are part of a greater balancing effort of all weapons. The MGS nerf is only to an aspect so that it's not so much an easy mode weapon. Like Rivers of Blood with its nerf early on.
- Tap R2s are now faster for most weapon types, which changes a lot of fights
- Critical attacks were buffed (may pre-date your last play)
- One of the DLC talismans in particular got an insane buff
- Entire weapon type buffs
- Buffs to shields, summons, ashes of war, and spells
If we're talking pre-nerf favourites, Hoarfrost Stomp was fantastic. It was my big gun I saved for special occasions. Got me through twin gargoyles when I didn't want to try again.I rolled my game version back to take back my beloved Bloodhound Step and undo all the pre-DLC nerf shenanigans. They do in quite a few cases, which was a great choice. Preserve PvE fun while helping the PvP side of the fan base. They should separete the pvp nerfs from the pve.
Some weapons really lose their charm after a nerf.
I just started a new playthrough last week. For whatever reason, I haven't done a pure str build yet so I decided to do that. If you have a specific build/weapon you're aiming for, it's not too bad to get thru the base game at all. I killed radahn/mohg in like 20-25 hours give or take. Once I decided on a few weapons that I wanted to use, I just looked up on overview of each major area for any talismans/armor/tears that I wanted and left everything else alone. I haven't entered the dlc yet (lvl 105) and I'm just casually wrapping up some odds and ends. I think the catacombs/caves/etc are a big time sink. I've only been in like 3 or 4 of them just to get bell bearings. Just going thru the game linearly is pretty quick. Im getting sidetracked a lot doing quests and saying to myself "well I'm already here, may as well knock this out too" lol. Having a lot of fun tho.Man I have a 500+ save on my XboxSS and bought the DLC. I have ER on my Pro now as well. Haven't played for so long. Kinda want a fresh start but with my exploration OCD It'll take so long to reach the DLC on a fresh run.

I used Youwy's guide found here if you're at all interested :Yeah that would exactly be my approach on a fresh start. But exploring is my fetish lol and yeah I'd have to look up where to go to get my build pieces.
On my XSS I have almost everything.
Just have to look up where to enter the DLC and fuck around to get the mechanics and all back in my fingers.
If I go the fresh route efficiently I'd indeed have to look shit up and go from A to BCD ETC. Eh...
First playthrough of the DLC? Honestly I wouldn't recommend a guide if that's the case. It's worth just exploring and finding out shit on your own. And if you get stuck, just google specifically how to get progress that specific area. The DLC map does get kind of confusing with its verticality.Played this a bit again. Defeated rennala. I kind of feel like playing more but some of the bosses annoy me and i kind of feel like need to use game progress route guide but I hate looking guide. Maybe something super short guide would be nice
not from just a glance unfortunately. there's probably a mod for pc that does it since i believe the convergence mod has that feature. I think the best bet to check is to go into the catacomb/cave/etc via grace and walk further into the cave. Not sure how far you'd need to go but if you can still fast travel out, then you've beat it already since fast travel unlocks when you beat the boss there. Or I guess check the wiki at fextralife/etc and compare the main reward(s) you get from that area to what you have. Kinda tedious tho lol.Is there a way to tell which caves and dungeons you have beaten? There are like a million of them and I think I’ve beaten them all but don’t want to visit each to confirm.

He's really knowledgeable but goes a bit quick for everything lol. Obviously depending on what build you want, you'd have to add/subtract some stuff from what he does. But it served as a nice quick rundown of a bunch of the important stuff especially since he's got timestamps on the video. I'm sure there's tons of guides out there varying on depth/explanation. And yeah, I get distracted and go off an explore areas just cuz I'm like "yeah i think i remember something being over here" lol. But whatever, it's all for fun and that's all that matters.
