F*ck Konami: MGSV FOBs beyond the first must be bought via macrotransactions

This purely multiplayer, right? If it is, and we all get one free than we should be able to play. I'm guessing the additional ones coming at a real life cost is to offset the cost of running the servers?

My $60 purchase should offset the bloody cost of the servers. They're really not that expensive to keep spinning.

He said "everything can be unlocked through playing the game", a second FOB and beyond costs money.

Ah, thanks.

Technically you have access to one FOB and the PVP mode that comes with it. You can also still unlock all weapons and items. Just going to take an ungodly amount of hours.

It's fishy wording and honestly he probably was just given the company line. He's really there to just demo the game.

Yup, the MGS5 community manager said that beyond the first FOB, the others must be bought with microtransactions.

Fuck you Konami.

Reviewers didn't have access to this 'feature' I suppose?

Nobody has access to this feature, which means how much time it saves and how unreasonable it is to unlock everything with just the one FOB is still a mystery.

This could be horrible or it could be nothing. Other retail games have had microtransactions to unlock stuff faster and have been fine.

This is bullshit, but having played a ton of the game with no online yet, completely unnecessary. You get so many resources from just playing the game that the FOB multiplier either must only be useful in late game or if you're terrible and fuck up every mission.

Thankfully the main game can be completed without doing any of this stuff. Already people have beaten this so it's possible and I truly wonder how many people were bothered.

But people wanting to max out everything will literally have to put in hundreds of hours into this.

I truly wonder if Konami will say anything
Hm, good to know.

If that's the case then I'm not too bummed about it. I never 100% open world games anyway.

The "Don't like it, don't buy it" mentality stopped working for AAA a looooong time ago

Then how does not buying the game at all solve anything?

It's not just the microtransactions, it's the effect they have on the single player part of the game.

All indications are that the impact on SP is minimal unless you are talking about super late-game stuff. It sucks, but if I like 97% of the package, I personally won't let the 3% bad hold me back. Just my view though.

Fuck you Konami you cunts. Wont get a cent extra on top of the base mgsv experience.

Basically screw your shitty tactics.

Holy fuck that's some bullshit. I am not interested in the mode, and will likely play offline (Like I do Souls game), but this is incredibly disingenuous from Konami.

Obviously Fuck Konami, but I wonder if you actually need more than 1 FOB. Im more interested in the MP aspects of them than how many resources they can gather for me.

What?! Fuck that noise, fuck that noise so hard.

God I really want this game, I know it's Kojima's last MGS and from what reviews are saying I know it's going to be amazing... but Konami is REALLY ruining this game for me.
Just don't buy any microtransactions. Nobody playing it pre release has had access to them at all, it hasn't hindered them.

Well... that's rather disappointing. Was hoping TPP was going to be my first entry into the MGS series since I'm a PC gamer, but guess not.

I know I don't blame the guy.

With the amount of games that are releasing on steam, it's pretty easy for me to skip products that have this type of stuff. I'd much rather play a couple of games that don't insult my wallet. Just use the time that I would've put into MGS into a game/developer that is actually worth supporting.

Only internal rational I can think of that helps:

Talking to Mother Base NPC's and listening to Cassette Tapes to pass the time while the meter fills. Peace Walker had tens of hours of cassette tapes in it. ...

:(

I really really want to like this game, and I probably will. But goddamn, Konami.

Konami is the US, and Kojima is Big Boss, screwed over by his former homeland and left out to dry, shattered and left a broken man, driven mad...probably a flaming skeleton man by now.

Kinda sucks for me because this is probably the one game I want to 100%. I'm doing that with GZ right now and its so fun. The controls are amazing.

Well if we take all the impressions and reviews as anything, no FOBs aren't necessary. Some people are making it seem like if you don't have FOBs you can't enjoy the game, but that hasn't really come out from anyone who's had the game since last week.

and you guys buying this game as a massive fuck you to konami is gonna have them crying with your money :p

Well...I may have gotten this by end of year but now I know for sure that I will never buy this game.

I do not tolerate microtransactions in any paid game and I only tolerated it in one free game.
I will not support this trash.

I will lookup the story later on as it does seem like it wasn't messed with from what I understand, but I won't buy this game and support this fucking company.

Kojima, I do hope that you can go on to create more great games in the future, and I thank you for the Metal Gear Solid games that you've given us before. Just sorry that Konami had to ruin this game. Hope its not your last!

Whatever happened to just making a fun game for people to enjoy. The FOB mode might be really good, and could have been a great addition to MGSV, but instead it's just an avenue to gouge money from the fans. So sad.

This kinda gets me worried for MGO3, which was the only reason I went for the PS4 version over PC. I really hope I don't end up regretting that choice.

Oh dear... here I was about ready to blow $60 tomorrow after work. I never thought I'd say this, but I think I'll wait for a price drop next year and just get Destiny Year 1+2 instead.

I was honestly okay with this being a multiplayer thing since I'm here for the single player campaign, but now I dunno man. That's asking a lot.

So you can't earn MB coins in game and you have to spend ~$20 in order to buy another Base...?
I wonder what are the other uses for MB coins.

Oh, shit. You're absolutely right. Suddenly those small purchase options are making sense now.

Fuck fuck, how many things in this game...

Uh...everything they said was true though? They are just accelerators and you can get everything through gameplay. It sounds just like the final Base upgrades take forever (and are inessential.)

It's still not as bad as the ZEKE grind in Peace Walker.

Huh the ZEKE "grind" takes like an hour or two (you can target specific body parts to increase the drop rate a lot) and mainly consists of replaying two boss fights once or twice. This is way worse.

Review scores really need to be adjusted for this. This is part of the whole package and the reviews should reflect that. The value here is garbage.

You make money with cosmetics and artificial things Konami, not dicking over your base that pays full price for a game.

Can't wait for Jim's word on this. He will be thrilled!

I also can't wait for the day Konami leaves this industry for good. What a scummy company.

It seems like after MGSV they'll only have the PES series. I think after this game they are pretty much done. They'll see how much of a life MGO has to offer but after that. They are done

To be fair, this crap is detrimental to those of us reaching end game and wanting to unlock everything, since some of us are completionists like that. Especially for our favourite game series. Metal Gear deserves better than this crap.

Just don't buy any microtransactions. Nobody playing it pre release has had access to them at all, it hasn't hindered them.

Exactly what I plan to do. There are reviewers who have put 40+ hours into the game and had a great time without even having access to any of the microtransaction stuff.

GAF should use its influence to get this BS changed.

MB coins / microtransactions should ONLY be used as an accelerator for building things up quickly, not putting 3 FOBs behind a damn paywall.
