First reviews for the Emoji Movie (take a wild guess!!!!!!)

I wonder if this reviewing so poorly and seemingly being complete trash will make people wanna go see if it's actually that awful. Maybe that was the plan all along.

I thought it was great. Dumb as all hell, but great.
That's giving Sony's execs WAY too much credit.

Also I can respect differing opinions on the final product but for me, knowing what happened to the people who made it? Fuck that movie.

The fact that I also hated the movie itself was just adding insult to injury. I expected a lot more from them since I love their other shit like Pineapple Express so much.

Wait--what happened?

Wait--what happened?

Horribly, horribly mistreated. Told to work overtime without being paid, threatening employees, giving people tasks that were literally impossible to complete and then threatening to fire and blacklist them if they missed their deadlines even if the reason they were missed was due to other peoples' missed deadlines, if anyone complained they were fired and their credits removed, even people who kept their heads down had their names taken from the credits. I think I read that something like more than half of the people who made the movie aren't credited? Just repulsive treatment. There were one or two Gaffers that worked on it too IIRC.

Edit: That second article mentioned the same thing happened on Rick & Morty which is really maddening to hear cause I actually like that show, but in that case one of the creators actually spoke up and defended them and things worked out. As far as I know, Seth et all never said a word about the treatment of the animators/designers/etc on Sausage Party. Boooo ):<

from the AV Club review:
The ”plot" is really an excuse to hop from one app to another; there are stops in the lands of Candy Crush, WeChat, Just Dance, Instagram, Spotify, and (for the kids!) Dropbox. That last one proves crucial, saving the fugitive trio from a pursuing robot. ”Don't worry, it can't get in," Jailbreak helpfully notes. ”It's illegal malware and this app is secure." At the climax, a Twitter bird comes to the rescue.

Good. Lord. I kinda want to see this just for the cringe factor.

http://www.vulture.com/2017/07/the-emoji-movie-will-send-you-into-a-spiral-emoji-of-despair.html

This is a film that seems beamed from a near future in which nothing goes right; ”words," as the kids in the film agree, ”aren't cool" anymore; and Patrick Stewart making jokes about soft shits is the new prestige TV. But what do I know? At my screening, which was for both press and a handful of unfortunate families, at the first sighting of her favorite rainbow-colored icon, a little girl behind me cried out, adoringly, ”It's Instagram!" A new age of heroes is born.

D:

Fuck me that's depressing.

Baby Driver

Spider-Man Homecoming

Blade Runner 2049

etc.

Pretty good year for them actually.
Sony really can't catch a break can they? Dark Tower might be good? but Homecoming kinda underperformed and they're only distributing Blade Runner overseas where the IP isn't as strong. I'll probably see this eventually just because I like taking my kid to the movies...

Anecdote, I was reading thread while watching television with my GF on the couch.

The ad for this fucking movie played.

GF: "Oh, I want to see that movie!"
Me: "Of course babe, you go watch it."

Then I showed her this thread and deflated her hype.

Can y'all imagine if this was Sir Patrick Stewart last role?

Well bare in mind what Sean Connery's last film was...

Thankfully though, he is doing a drama called "The Gift" right now. Hell knows that he wouldn't have heard the end of it if his last role was called (and pardon the pun) a shitty performance.

I can't do the "so bad it's good" thing for animated movies. I've never watched an animated film that was so terrible that it became entertaining. When these kids movies are bad, they just exhaust me.

Yeah I wasn't sure which was newer this or Angry Birds also a Sony joint if I remember correctly...
I don't think I'd call Angry Birds a bomb, it's getting a sequel after all.

I mean, I don't think it lit up the charts like they wanted it to, but it didn't near-miss enough to not get a sequel like, say, Ghostbusters did.

SOMEONE NEEDS TO WATCH FOOD FIGHT!!!

Just why did Patrick Stewart and TJ Miller get sucked into this?

As for the reviews, I expected bad, but not THIS bad!

Apparently it's become the lowest-rated animated film on Metacritic.

TJ Miller is doing it for the world, dude, didn't you hear? He's done making stuff like Big Hero 6 and Silicon Valley for "reddit posters" he's doing Deadpool 2 and Emoji Movie "for the world" and we should quite frankly be thanking him

the filmmakers saw fit to have a character sing, ‘Nobody knows the touch screens I’ve seen / Nobody knows the screenshots,’ while sitting atop a pile of trash, to the tune of ‘Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen,’ a spiritual written by slaves to bolster their spirits while toiling in the pre-Emancipation American South.”

I got back from watching it about an hour ago. I mean the premise is fucking stupid, but it seemed like a solid kids movie. The messages of the film, being yourself, not conforming, the value of friendship over popularity, it did a good job of putting those across. My ten year old loved it. I don't buy the critics scores, I mean if fucking Cars 2 can get in the 30's and Minions even higher, this deserves higher than zero.

The 3D sucked major ass though. Anyone planning to see this, don't waste money on the 3D version. And I'm not trying to say this is a good movie or anything.

Nice try, Sony exec

you get paid a ridiculous amount of money for meh roles.

I'd be in this movie if they offer me 500k for a minor speaking role

Seriously. Look at it this way - some non-union voice acting gigs bottom out (ie, lowest they go) at $200 an hour, with a 2-hour minimum. So that's $400 to go into a room in your PJs to record dialog for two hours. Non-union.

Union actors, especially big names, make a fucking ton of money doing voices, and the effort is barely anything. You see behind the scenes videos of them all the time, unshaven, in their sweats and a flannel shirt, they barely have to give a fuck. They just have to show up and listen to the voice director and read their lines and then leave and they just got paid thousands of dollars for a few hours of work (I believe there's a maximum but I can't remember if it's 4 hours or 6).
