The Liverpool captain, who is quitting the club at the end of the season to move to the United States, said that he was taken aback by manager Brendan Rodgers telling him that he would be used more sparingly – crucially in the period between last summer and November, before a contract offer was finally made to the 34-year-old.

Gerrard, who leaves after 26 years' service at the club, revealed his shock at Rodgers telling him the midfielder needed game-time management.
“I’ve got to be honest, that chat with Brendan came earlier than I was expecting,” he said in an interview with the Liverpool Echo. “It was about a month before that he first mentioned to me about managing my game time. We had another chat on the subject recently – 10 days to two weeks ago.


He doesn't realise his own limitations in old age. Bless him.

I think we were just upfront about the situation with Lampard. LFC seem to have been leading Gerrard on since the summer, and now that things haven't gone their way this season, they're ready to make the change. It's a shitty predicament, but it is just business. No one is at fault or owed anything.
