Every fucking idiot is a legend these days. Let's give Steve a knighthood already.

Even a tool like Scholes is being called a legend.

Scholes is a fucking legend. Even other legends called him great. I don't know what else do you want then.

Steve was a rock for Liverpool for quite a long time, and of course he is.

What a load of shite.

If those 2 aren't legends, you have some ridiculously high bars. Incredible players who have given 15+ years to their clubs in the first team, without even considering the iconic status that comes with them coming through the youth teams. And Gerrard has done it with better offers on the table. Its only been the past year or so when he hasn't been reaching the club's standard, for the decade previous it was the other way round.

Scholes was England's best midfielder by a long way for quite a time. He is a legend, and being fair so is Gerrard.

How can Scholes not be a legend. Only played for Manchester United for over 20 years, was a rock in the midfield in a new winning era for United. Always respectful towards the competition and a really great guy, always did his job no complaining. Played over 700 games scored over 100 goals and a shitload of assists. And he had red hair, it made his childhood hard as hell. But he got through it and is today what you call a living legend.

Well so long Stevie G, a man failed by the club he carried for years.

A man with less medals than Anderson ffs.

MLS is a waste, should have moved to Italy, nice weather, food and a slower pace of football and he could have won a medal or two.

His lack of succsess will damage his ability to be considered a great in years to come outside of those at Liverpool.

A lesson to those like Sterling, don't commit to this club and waste your career like Stevie G.

Guys, he supports madrid, pls stop with the quotes.

To be a legends for Madrid fans the player needs to be in the top 20 most expensive transfers list.

They don't know what having a player like Scholes or Gerrard feels like.

I loved Paul Scholes, and Gerrard for that matter. They're the sort of player you don't get many of any more, loyal to a club, hard-working, dedicated, and committed. And they didn't dive much either.

Meh maybe others will feel that way but I certainly won't. It's a team sport, not his fault that Liverpool haven't had too much success.

At least for Scholes his dives are targetted to another player's leg.

Also Gerrard didn't do too bad. Has a European championship which Shearer never even got.

What a load of shit this post. People like Gerrard is exactly what modern day football is missing. Real club players who won't leave for more money. Players like that are a rarity these days sadly.

He very nearly did leave for money. Then the shirt burning started and he got scared.

This is a really good piece by the Guardian (originally from March last year) on Gerrard. Apologies if already posted, I haven't caught up with the thread yet.

As a Liverpool hater, he's a colossal bellend and he's got no fucking league medals awight?

As a football fan, it's been pretty sad this year to see someone who I remember being so remarkable to be playing so poorly, and hung out to dry whether that's of his own accord, his manager or the fans'.

A few of my favourite football memories have Gerrard at the heart of them: the 2005 CL and 2006 FA finals, the 5-1 against Germany, the player in one of my favourite gifs of all time (that one where he airshots and goes down like he's been shot), and of course the slip.

That article I posted up there sums up how I feel about Gerrard; a great great footballer who was unfortunate to be the best player in the majority of teams he played in, because it only added to the already immense pressure on him to perform.

edit: Splatt you fucking hero

But he was leaving for money and a chance of success until the knuckle draggers started hounding him and his family, which was shameful.

A player of his ability deserved to be in a team worthy of his ability, and that has never been Liverpool.

A player that great with no league medal is shameful, and that team let him down over and over again.

Performed consistently. Outperforms Gerrard now. Outperformed Gerrard for England. Not even close.

He outperforms Gerrard now because he comes off the bench and only plays every third match. He's being managed better, and he's managed his own body better.

I'm confident in saying Gerrard was a better football player over the course of their careers. Lampard's had a better career, but he doesn't have the ability Gerrard has at his feet.

Ironic usage of "knuckle draggers".

Better man management and a team with quality surrounding him would see Gerrard play another season of good football at the highest level.

After losing Suarez and the heart break of last season you could see his head drop at the thought of carrying those useless cunts on his own for another season, at a better team he wouldn't have the whole weight of the team on his shoulders.

bottlejob gerrard

edit: diminishing lampard for playing in a good team, which was built around him and he performed and elevating gerrard by saying he had a plop team and he would have been amazing at a bigger club.

fact remains, lampard has outperformed gerrard on every metric, and he still does it. Gerrard had the natural talent and on his day he was unplayable, but he really didn't have his day that often.

Also love the fact people forgot how Gerrard played Liverpool in 2004 and 2005.

Still has no medals to show for it. Fat head Rio has more bragging rights because he did win them all. What has slippery G got to show? Rio is at least wasting away at QPR but has no regrets.

You know you've failed as a player when a sick kid at the hospital you are visiting refuses your autograph and you have to call Rooney to send in a signed Jersey.

I still respect Steve's loyalty and consider him a great great player, but a legend? f**k no.

Mr.Feguson saying Gerrard isn't a "top, top player" is a joke :lol especially considering how much he rated Carrick

Deserve sirens going off all over the facking shop today

Mame Biram Diouf deserved a chance at United.

Wow, what a comeback.

Have to laugh when people compare Gerrard with Scholes, nowhere near the great that Scholes is.

A winner and a fantastically gifted footballer lauded by some of the best players in the game, today all I have heard from is former Liverpool players hailing Stevie.

Liverpool fans with lack of humour shocker

Funny considering they've been a circus for so long.

Ramsey aint nothing, just like the rest of the Arsenal team bar Sanchez.

I'm not holding a torch for Stevie - though I do really, really, really, really like Phil Collins.

To be fair, I didn't know that Stevie once was close to leaving. But hey, props to him for staying ultimately. But my point is that it's nonsense to want players to leave their club. He already played at a big club, a big club that sadly for him underperformed in his time being there. But going to another English club to win something would have meant he had to sell his soul. Like RvP did. I have much respect for players who stick to their club. And well, in his penultimate season at Liverpool he even came very close. Too bad he fucked it up himself in the end.

I dont really like Gerrard, but its easy to see why Liverpool fans consider him a legend. He practically won the CL and FA cup finals on his own, dragged Liverpool to numerous finals,
slipped at crucial moments
. He IS Liverpool, and it's sad to see him decline so much.
