Football Thread 2014/2015 |OT11| This Is Our Year!

I had this Twitter conversation yesterday about Sczeszny - https://twitter.com/nathanrb_61/status/550797724963323905 (thats my first tweet about it, conversation carries on after that)

I agree with all that. After the second goal yesterday he went straight for his water bottle. I wanted to see him get straight back up and try and fire the team up. Mistakes happen, but great keepers put them out of their mind straight away. he is an excellent shot stopper, but every other aspect of his game is poor.

Not to downplay it, but Courtois arrived in Madrid with a reputation as the most promising young keeper in the world iirc

True, but they played him and continued his excellent rise. Even De Gea struggled when he first arrived at United. In the last 20 years there have only been 4 world class teenage keepers, and Atletico have had two of them play for them.

Gerrard is easily a top 20 player in the Premiere League era.

Sandvich is easily a bottom 3 poster.

And it's only been 1 day.

he's shit and should have been sold years ago. I don't know if he's the worst keeper in the league but getting a decent, reliable if unspectacular keeper is such a basic, easy, cheap (!) thing to do that he's easily replaceable. Especially at his current level of performance. frankly, Fabianski—a hardly reliable keeper imo—outplayed him whenever he deputized for him the past few years.

My mate sent this this to me earlier. Apparently it's from RAWK or some other forum. Either way, it's amazing.

Szh is a top ten keeper in the league.

He is error prone still, which is troubling. But he is solid with everything else.

He also has a shit defense in front of him. And consistnetly has. Last season was his best season and we had an ok defense.

Sandvich may have come on a bit strong but he mellowed considerably and I approved of his gif and icon usage

I think best way of putting it is he's a high variance option. very capable of winning you games, also very capable of losing you games. I'd prefer a more reliable, consistent keeper, if only for my blood pressure's sake.

Ben Arfa's career is a right game of musical chairs. Apparently Hull have cancelled his loan deal and Newcastle have terminated his contract. He's now going to Nice. :lol

Put the keeper under less pressure and he will be more reliable.

Our defense is shit. Szh was fine last year.

Awful for a team that want to win the league - or even come top four - to be settling for a top ten keeper out of 20.

loved Gone Girl. didn't feel like I saw too many good movies in 2014, Birdman is probably my favorite of 2014 at this point. Boyhood was also fantastic.

Nightcrawler was alright.
+ small, very funny, Gyllenhaal doing psycho
- about as subtle as a Neil Blomkamp film, also Gyllenhaal
started as a psycho and ended as a psycho... kinda flat

The Hobbit was unforgivably terrible. Hated hated hated the Imitation Game.

Inherent Vice was funny, incomprehensible (in a good way) though it felt fucking interminable.

Grand Budapest Hotel was pretty good too, I'm not sure if it was because of or in spite of Wes Anderson though.

I wouldn't sell him because he is still only 24. But he should not have been starting for the past 5 seasons.

The problem with the majority of the young players we have produced in house during the Wenger years is that they lack discipline and mental toughness. Apart from Ashley Cole we have not produced a single world class player under Wenger. Even Wilshere is mentally weak. The only other youngster of note to have come through was Fabregas and he was made in Barca. I really do wonder what we are teaching our young players, because whatever it is, it ain't working.

Chambers is a good recent example of this. You can already tell he's going to be a massive cunt.

I think Walcott would developed into a top player if he wasn't injured all the time. He still seems like a good guy. Ox too.

I would love to have Southampton's academy. Imagine what they could do with Arsenal's European scouting market.

There's a definite Poe's law surrounding rawk and supposed rawk posts.

That Gerrard pass against Fulham last season is mental. Didn't even realise what he was doing until Sturridge ran onto it
Remember when Genk were Liverpool's feeder club, giving us first option over their players, and they had Courtois, Benteke and De Bruyne and we didn't sign any of them? Good times.

Like I say, it was just my opinion and I know you guys watch a lot more Liverpool than me. I enjoyed watching him when he was on form because he was a very unique player and always was one for the occasion.
Fair enough, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I feel that the claims of him being inconsistent stem from his England form under Sven and when he was playing on the right wing in 05/06.
08-09 is the only team that feels like the culmination of a plan in all areas. Reina, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Mascherano, Alonso, Gerrard, Kuyt, Torres when fit. None of them have since been as good as they were that season aside from Reina. Last season's team was boss, but not in the same way

That team falling apart so quickly is depressing
It is, I do feel that was the best Liverpool team in my lifetime, as it was more defensively solid.

The 13/14 team had a better attack, but the horrific defense drags it down a few levels.

I'm not worried about our goalkeepers honestly. DM and a striker is much more important.

It really is a testament to Wenger's shitness that I think we basically need a whole new team except for Ramsey and Sanchez. Although if Wenger would just drop possession football then Ozil and Walcott could be kept.

The vast majority of this squad is just not good enough to win the league, or progress deep in the CL. The CBs are brain dead half the time, the fullbacks are average. We have the worse double pivot in the history of double pivots, we haven't had a left sided winger for a good few years, and our strikers are too inconsistent.

"Drop the possession game" is so silly

Every top club in the world plays "the possession game"

Our counter is shit because the players make shit decisions, not because we have more possession.

how could gbh be in spite of wes anderson when it was the most wes anderson thing ever made

I wouldn't say Madrid or Bayern do. When I have seen them play their aim is to score in the quickest possible time. Dominating possession and playing a possession game are two different things.

You have the personnel to play on the counter though, so why Arsenal enter every game looking to play like Barcelona I have no idea. It's why United and Chelsea win every single time: predictable.

Bottle Rocket is Anderson's best film

Budapest was too much Anderson. Hope he does something else. Kind of bored with that style

exactly, it is why Ozil looks so lost. The guy is someone who looks to create instant chances, but he is being asked to slow his game down. this results in him getting mugged a lot or just passing to the side. Fabregas is great at playing the possession game and is so much more assured on the ball when someone comes for him
