Are we once again going to have the highest rated game of the year lose GOTY to a PS exclusive?
It's going to win GOTY because it is the GOTY
Are we once again going to have the highest rated game of the year lose GOTY to a PS exclusive?
Are we going that route? Really? When critic's favour PS games regardless of quality. Are we once again going to have the highest rated game of the year lose GOTY to a PS exclusive?
In the OG xbox days there was no lack of interesting exclusive content, the same was true until around the release of Kinect back in 2009.Easy to write that article given the recent reviews for Golf of War.
It's true for sure but that's been the case since the Xbox's entry into the console space.
Sometimes facts need to be laid bare for everyone to see.Output wise, they were shit this year. Which brings the point.
Was this article even necessary, other than fanboys material source?
It's all nice and dandy, but nobody will buy your console or pay 15$ a month to play a bunch of indie titles. They will buy. the one or two they like and call it a day.The whole "MS has no games" talk died last year when they had 3 GOTY quality games. This year was dry for them and Sony hit it out of the park as a publisher, but given the schedule of Xbox games we don't need to compare them on a "X has no games, X is better" due to the fact they're both operating in their own way atm. Also it discredits smaller published games. Gaming media is very bias towards AAA games only. Pentiment is due in a week, grounded got a full release. Not to compare it directly to games like GOW, but if you don't release a massive AAA game it's almost as if it doesn't count. Terrible mentality for the indie space which leads the industry in innovation.
Except that is the reason why people are buying xbox thos gem. Those who ignored xbox last gen. It's all nice and dandy, but nobody will buy your console or pay 15$ a month to play a bunch of indie titles. They will buy. the one or two they like and call it a day.
If elden ring doesn't win the goty this year, then it's day light robbery. It's going to win GOTY because it is the GOTY
Except that is the reason why people are buying xbox thos gem. Those who ignored xbox last gen.
Also games are games. I don't get this notion of only AAA fans.
Sony has managed to publish multiple GOTY products since 2018. I can't think of Microsoft doing anything similar.Yeah, we need more articles like this. Going an entire generation without any GOTY contenders is one thing, but to start off so poorly is simply unacceptable.
GOW came out in April 2018 when they went out and acquired Ninja Theory, Obsidian, Playground Games, and that State of Decay studio. They had also started initiative around that time. Sony managed to produce a GOTY caliber sequel in 4.5 years since while those Xbox studios are sitting there twiddling their thumbs. PG inexplicably made another Forza Horizon game in the meantime.
The NY Yankees just got swept like bitches in the ALCS. Their owner threw his full support behind the manager and GM almost immediately. Basically absolving them of any blame, and telling the fanbase they are not changing anything. Microsoft has done the same thing over the last 9 years keeping the same management that has consistently failed to deliver. Doing the same thing over and over again expecting things to change is the definition of insanity.
If Starfield plays similar to Fallout 4, I think a lot of people are going to be very disappointed.I bet Starfield will end up being basically a space skin for Fallout 4 and it'll get a 89 meta.
Yikes, that is bad. We're 2 years into this gen and nothing jumps out at customers to make them choose an Xbox over Playstation.
If elden ring doesn't win the goty this year, then it's day light robbery.
97 meta critic isn't a joke. Especially selling that high, while being a niche genre game, and also attracting the casual users.
Sony had a poor start with the PS3 that took some time to pick up momentum. By the end of 2009, they were back in 1st place.except back in the x360 days they never had this problem
Tbf you can get those games for PC.Obsidian [2018]- The Outer Worlds 2019, Grounded 2022, Pentiment 2022
PG [2018] - FH5 2021
NT [2018] - Bleeding Edge 2020
inXile [2018] - Wasteland Remaster and Wasteland 3 [2020]
Double Fine [2019] - Psychonauts 2 [2021]
UL [2018] - SoD 2 [2018]
Xbox has no games![]()
Then I demand justice from talos. It's called justice.
???I disagree that games are games. Not all games are made the same nor appeal to people in the same way. People don't just want quantity but quality as well.
So for any subscription service having just games isn't the only important thing. But to have a variety of high quality content is also important. Not saying either service doesn't have that though.
Not all games are made the same nor appeal to people in the same way.
They had fh5 and flight simulator. But those games don't get the chance for gotySony has managed to publish multiple GOTY products since 2018. I can't think of Microsoft doing anything similar.
Fuck, Halo Infinite had its moment in the sun for a month and then people started to shit on it.
Hell, a good chunk of those games you can get on ps4.Tbf you can get those games for PC.
Maybe because other games came out those years that actually deserve the award? Don't get me wrong, they are good games, but GOTY material? Debatable. They had fh5 and flight simulator. But those games don't get the chance for goty
Then I demand justice from talos.
???
You are just describing what these services are for.
Just because you don't like those games, doesn't mean others won't. The service isn't for you. It's for everyone, who has a different a taste.
Plus quality games exist. It's just that it doesn't appeal to every people.
All bethesda, MS games, EA games exist on gamepass. You get at least10 to 15 AAA games a year on the service.
You just get to a point, where you have most of AAA games that you are able to get.
It's why the service works.I did mention that games don't appeal to everyone in the same way.
No idea why you didn't understand that.
But some games appeal to more people than others. It's why its important to have a good variety in a subscription service.
Hopefully I'm making myself clear to you.
That is not what I mean.Maybe because other games came out those years that actually deserve the award? Don't get me wrong, they are good games, but GOTY material? Debatable.
It's not a niche genre game.If elden ring doesn't win the goty this year, then it's day light robbery.
97 meta critic isn't a joke. Especially selling that high, while being a niche genre game, and also attracting the casual users.
It's why the service works.
People complain, because they don't "get what they want". The service doesn't revolve around them.
That is not fanboyism. It's not a niche genre game.
Also lol at saying it's "Daylight robbery". God of War Ragnarok isn't even out yet, which means you haven't even played it yet. This is pretty much text book fanboyism.
If elden ring doesn't win the goty this year, then it's day light robbery.
97 meta critic isn't a joke. Especially selling that high, while being a niche genre game, and also attracting the casual users.
And that is what they are doing. But people don't like it. They are adding all type of games. That's why it's important to have a good variety. It's not like they make these services only contain smaller titles. They also include bigger titles so it will appeal to more people. Of course not every single game will be what you want to play. But if there are a few titles that your interested in you will be more likely to use the service. It's why variety is important to its success. It's why the titles that you include can make a difference.
Elden Ring did nothing new either. The game that deserves the GOTY title is the best, the end. That is not fanboyism.
Gow is from a successful formula. If you played last gow, you will know how the new one would play out.
Elden ring is from souls genre. It isn't that much popular with casuals. Elden ring broke down that notion. It was the first open world souls game, which entertained people.
That is the type of games that deserve goty.
And that is what they are doing. But people don't like it. They are adding all type of games.
But people are only obsessed with these "Quality AAA" games.
Not every month would be your month.
Except 2018 gow was a fresh narrative, with different gameplay.Actually RDR2 had a meta of 97 while GoW 2018 had a meta of 94. Both won plenty of GOTY awards.
In short the games metacritic doesn't necessarily mean it will take all the GOTY awards. Also it isn't wrong for a game with a lower MC to get some GOTY awards either.
Except 2018 gow was a fresh narrative, with different gameplay.
That is what it brought to the table. The jump leap was quite big. Like how elden ring did with open world.
Red Dead 2, was just an upgraded version of red dead 1.
But sometimes that obsession is bad.I think people are obessed with quality in general whether it's AAA or smaller indie titles. People demand more of the good stuff and that's normal. We all want to play good games.
Ragnorak is great, considering that metacritic score isn't a fluke. You dont get 94 by being good.Well Ragnarok got the same metacritic because its still equally as good. Games don't have to reinvent themselves to win GOTY. Hopefully you understand that and don't get upset when Ragnarok wins some of those awards.
All that matters is for a game to be great which is what Ragnarok is.
Do you guys think pentiment might be the dark horse, like last year it takes 2? (I know the chances are 0.001%).
There's no way elden ring loses game of the year ....
Also game of the year doesn't matter!
If you prefer god of war or elden ring its completely fine.
Ragnorak is great, considering that metacritic score isn't a fluke. You dont get 94 by being good.
I am rating elden ring highly, for simply breaking that soul game notion, especially with that open world mechanics.
The "best" game is incredibly subjective to the individual though. What is easier to see is what games are generally considered the best by critics/gamers, and then which of those move the industry/a genre forward. Elden Ring has a much stronger claim to moving the medium forward then GOW:R, and they're closely rated by critics(and ER has the edge here as well), so ER is more deserving of GOTY on both frontsElden Ring did nothing new either. The game that deserves the GOTY title is the best, the end.
It is absolutely fanboyism. You are saying a game deserves GOTY over another game that you haven't even played yet and thus are in no position to judge. That is not fanboyism.

Elden Ring is literally Dark Souls open world, and dark souls is simply demon's souls under a different name.
Dark Souls 3 sold like 10 million copies. It isn't a niche genre and hasn't been for a long time.
Other genres offer a lot more GOTY material than a flight sim and a racing game. That is not what I mean.
Certain genre don't really have that much shot at goty, since journalists favor other genre.
It Takes 2 was the anomaly for that award.
Are we going that route? Really? When critic's favour PS games regardless of quality. Are we once again going to have the highest rated game of the year lose GOTY to a PS exclusive?
In the OG xbox days there was no lack of interesting exclusive content, the same was true until around the release of Kinect back in 2009.
Since then, 13 years ago, there has been nothing truly interesting coming from them (you can point a few exceptions here and there, but the point still stand).
Stop caring about awards. Those are two very different games, both are great, who cares which one gets more awards? Why always compare everything?
Is Picasso "better" than Van Gogh? Nobody knows and nobody should care. We just enjoy their masterpieces.
Sony also already had a legacy at this point, and the problems with the PS3's complexity probably hindered their ability for a while as well.Sony had a poor start with the PS3 that took some time to pick up momentum. By the end of 2009, they were back in 1st place.
If you are a flight simulator fan get a PC, a console is just a weird choice to fiddle with these (I like flight sim, but I am no that much into them).Other genres offer a lot more GOTY material than a flight sim and a racing game.
Both are still outstanding.
I guess that arts history majors are less adamant about their choice of art platform. Is Picasso "better" than Van Gogh? Nobody knows and nobody should care. We just enjoy their masterpieces.
