Does an easy to use, easy to customize desktop make people use their smart phones and computers more often than say if they had to run a Linux box or DOS command prompt? Companies sell software to people who don't want to learn.

So in your mind, a user friendly interface is the same as companies using their financial advantage to psychologically manipulate their customers? Sort of like using subliminal messages in a movie theater to entice people to buy refreshments?

Oh heavens yes. Just like how gas stations tend to have milk, bread, and other various items at a higher price than going to the store. Its more than likely a shorter distance from your house than the store. They know if you need it, you will pay them more money for it. The advancement in cell phones shows people will pay more money for 1-2 added features. Having a better camera doesn't take multiple $1,000 phones. They make it appealubg to the consumer because its the next best thing and its easier than buying a real camera. I think every company that wants to be on top has some form of mental manipulation. Windows 10 having apps reflects the popularity of Apple products and etc. Its all one giant way to lure the person into purchasing their product.

How else would you bring people in with your social apps? How can Facebook add a feature without considering when, why, and how someone is going to use it. If its too hard or too complex it won't sell. I think all these companies are using a psychiatrist or someone who understands the human mind. It has to be, otherwise why are we all using it?

I firmly believe this issue is on the parents but I would be very happy if they are able to sue Epic for a large amount and win.

I have addiction issues, but I’ve never thought to blame the provider of whatever it is I’m addicted to. It’s a me issue and my responsibility to get help to stop whatever it is I’m doing addictively. In the case of a minor the parents responsibility. Yes many games are addictive, pretty much anything that provides pleasure or a sense of escape can become addictive for certain people. You can’t just eliminate everything that has that effect on people.

My take...if you don't let your kids play video games you're a d-bag. So you're left with 2 paradigms: You use them as incentive and reward, or you use them to babysit your kids while you watch TV and dick around on your phone in the next room.

The quote about epic spending years...nope they saw pubg become huge and quickly threw together a clone on their existing fortnite game. So sue them for copying but not this. Also everyone that sues Epic loses. Ask dyack.

That’s a pretty fundamental right to remove for someone just wanting to get to, and enjoy their new stuff. EULA dumps at start-up, hiding things like this, are a pretty shitty thing to do.

Years working with psychologists. lol. Fortnite BR success is a fluke really. The base building game it was designed to be was average at best, and with PUBG ruling the BR roost at the time, Epic made Fortnite BR and it was an overnight success, by sheer luck.

Its the parents' fault if you ask me. As parents you should always supervise what your children are doing. If telling off your children doesn't cut it, just remove the damn console or PC. Thats what I did. Problem solved. Its not even rocket science.

But the part about Epic spending time with psychologists to make the game addictive is pretty nefarious in its own right but it’s probably a more common practice.

If we are going to break it down to fundamentals then how much of our lives come down to a "risk and reward" type situation that is "no different than gambling"?
