I've been at it for two weeks now, and I can already see and feel the progress. I only wish I had taken this step sooner. I've literally done nothing in the last 5 or 6 years.
After a serious health scare, I decided to commit to a personal trainer for the next nine months
I actually wrote this while doing cardio!
Good for you my man! Especially after so many years. What's the general and or specific goal you've talked about with your PT in relation to what you want to achieve? No awnser needed if to personal. I've been in the very same scenario more than a handful of times so trust me I know how hard it is om de eerste stap te maken. and again, no need to awnser but what was the health scare that made you flip the switch?
In any case I'm proud of ya.
Takes some serious energy and guts to do what you're doing. Don't forget that! Warrior <3

Speaking for myself; it's complicated regarding the gym.
I'm still figuring out how to approach it this time around. I've also been out for a couple years because of my chronic nerve pain (back/hips/knees) after a long journey of seeing specialists it was a physical therapist that found the core issue and that caused my to work on it via consistent stretching and specific excersizes for a long ass time before I could go to the gym and strengthen certain muscles to hopefully make the pain I was having to disappear.
I went at it with full motivation and low and behold it worked.
Couple months later I got bursitus (slijmbeursontsteking) in my right shoulder. The cortison shot did it's work so I could continue pretty much a couple days later. (This was more or less 5/6 months ago) and all was well for a month or two where I started getting depressed and started drinking again. In the meantime my shoulder starting acting up again.
I've recently visited the same shoulder specialist and the pocket of fluid (echograph) from my previous visit had dissappeard. Well, initially they told me "injuries" as these can last up to a year and change in some cases; and recommended seeing a physical therapist, which I did.
She concluded that it was highly likely some bursitus was lingering but I should keep working out; although keeping an eye on the angle and position of my rotator cuff.
Been off the booze and have being eating clean for almost a month now.
With that said I have zero energy and motivation so it's gonna be pure discipline for a while whilst maintaining the hope the fun in working out will return. The more active I'll be the more energy I'll get in return.
Then again my goals and thus my approach has changed. I have reached my peak 12 years ago. Now it's -1: lift for the pain issues -2: get a bit more fit and -3 lose about 5/6(?)KG and I'm fine.
I don't want to come across as a crying poor old me; just felt like sharing I guess. I have severe body dismorphia and am very insecure and that plays into it as well. But fuck it: do the work and before I (we) know it we'll feel much better (you already do!) <3
Again, sorry for my long story long.
Yeah I'll probably find a boxing gym at some point. If I was you I'd pick Judo (better for multiple opponents) and kick boxing over BJJ. it's definitely taking me longer to recover. I just try to eat cleaner and sleep more.
Nice, alles op z'n tijd man, lastig imo omtrent de gym sfeer etc..
I found a gym (coincidentally the same where I did Judo at the age of 4/5/6) but he drove to my school att) within a 20 min bikeride.
