Gene Hackman and wife found dead, in their home

I know we have a detector in my sons room but not for downstairs, gonna pick some up on the way. Scary shit.
They sell battery operated ones about the size of a pack of cards. Easy to put on a dresser. Great for bringing with you to hotels, especially in less developed countries, because gas leaks seem to be more of an issue there.

HOLD YOUR FIRE, I"M A HUMAN

Can someone recommend their favorite movies? I don't believe I've seen any...
For Gene Hackman? That's hard to say since he covered such a wide range.

For me it's Superman, Crimson Tide, Quick and the Dead, Unforgiven, Uncommon Valor (VERY underrated flick, BTW), and The Poseidon Adventure.

Wow, has he really been retired for TWENTY YEARS? I probably read something that said he was done but so few actually do it. I gotta think he had constant dumptruck of $$$ offers to be the anchor for innumerable streaming series unless he was really ill later on.

If the police don't suspect foul play, and the dog is dead too, my guess is CO poisoning or some other kind of accidental poisoning.
I never thought of it before, but somewhere I read about possible CO poisoning if your vents are blocked outside. There was probably some news article talking about people dying from it at home, so it stuck in my mind. So I just bought it and put it in my bedroom while randomly seeing a detector at Costco for $20. Then I read more about it and they were talking blocked gas dryers (as an example), not electric ones so I think I wasted my money. But too lazy to refund it. lol

Such tragic news. 🥺 From time to time I was verifying over the internet to see his last recent pics and how he was. Damn, one of the best, and vintage actors of his generation. He played so natural and convincing. I do hope it was gas leak. 😔

Name me a movie that he is in where in every scene that he is in, he doesn’t steal the show. Or even the entire movie.

It also bears mentioning that he snuck into the service while only 16, just after WW2. Semper Fi!

I bought four corbon monoxide detectors and placed them around the house on each floor. especially in kids rooms.

The newer fire alarms also come with it, but by the time the gas goes up there its probably too late.

Sad Season 9 GIF by The Office

At least it sounds like he and his wife passed peacefully, whether it was a gas leak or something else unknown.

The wife was sadly quite young to pass, only 60’s, but Gene living to 97 is impressive. I’m sure he had a great life to match his great career. RIP.

Sad day. He led a great life, and was a phenomenal actor. Wish we got to see him more in his later years, but I heard he wrote some books and wanted to enjoy the life he had left.

I think the last movie I’ve seen him in was Enemy of the State. Great small role. He was a legend. 95 also a great age to go.

But poor Oscar-guy who’s doing the presentation on the deceased actors .. quite busy these days 😵‍💫

Awful. One of the true greats of the art form. Terrible about his wife too, I wonder what happened there? Really does seem like a gas leak or the like.

RIP Gene.

"On February 26, 2025, Hackman, his wife, and their dog were found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was 95. The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Department said there were no significant signs of foul play but did not provide either time or cause of death. The Santa Fe sheriff later told news media that the couple appeared to have been dead for about a day before their bodies were discovered."

They are busy every year, its just they are finally getting to OUR childhood actors.

John Wayne passing probably hit my dad like Arnie passing will hit me. Though he wasn't nearly as big a film buff as me so maybe not. But all those 40's/50's stars we saw in the "in memoriam" reel undoubtedly were equally beloved to fans from their era.

I feel like stars are "closer" to us because of the ease of watching old films now versus the pre or early home video era. I regularly spool up an 80's or 90's flick (though they can be hard to find in the streaming environment) but if I were going to Blockbuster still I'd stay focused on the new releases. Only during the summer would I delve into the back catalogue or be so bored I'd watch Turner Classic Movies or something on WGN/TBS.

My kid will sob if Mr. Beast dies....god have mercy on the youth of today :p

Did you just call us old 😱

Damn. I know he was on his final years but sad that whatever was left of that was still cut short. Then his wife and dog too... Awful.

Amazing actor and few people could make anger as entertaining as he could. RIP.

The French Connection was based on a true story and cop in New York. The ''Popeye'' Doyle character was such a hardass in the film.

NYC cops were out for blood in the 60s/70s going by that film.

TMZ are saying it's suspicious and no signs of a gas leak.

Which isn't good.
Of course its suspicious, how else could 2 adults and a dog all die together?

Doesn't mean its not an accident though, be it fumes or even an accidental medication overdose, then one throws up and a dog eats that, then dies as well. Being Santa Fe it's always possible there is some herbal/woo-woo stuff that was spiked with fentanyl. Autopsy would show if they were assaulted.

But damn, could have been dead for TWO WEEKS?

Call your folks regularly, guys, can't imagine how his kids (if they are close) must feel.

The next 5-10 years are gonna be brutal for us

They're all gonna fall like dominoes, one after another :messenger_pensive:

And the worst part is no one is around and good enough to fill the void of any of them

One of the best actors I have ever seen. A big fan of Crimson Tide and Enemy of the State plus I reckon he has one of the best screen slaps served to Willem Dafoe in Mississippi Burning.

Rest in peace sir.

Yup. The past 10 years have tons of people of tv/movie people dying from what I watched.

Almost everyone from Night Court has died. I think only John Larroquette and Marsha Warfield are alive and both are in their 70s. Unless they live to their 80s+, the rest of the main cast from Threes Company will die too. Janet, Terri, Larry, Cindy still alive.
