yes really sad news, he was so talented, and I really hope he was not into drugs, if this turns out that he took and overdose, cocain,crack etc and died, then I can only say, thats what you get for acting like a idiot you selfish bitch!

Yeah, apparently they were Ambien. Family says he was suffering from pneumonia. You're not supposed to take sleeping pills if you've got a severe respiratory condition.

Maybe his family calling it an accident isn't just denial.

EDIT: Either way, if he did die because of drugs that's of course sad. Stupid and sad.

RIP Heath ledger. I was a fan, and I really am heart broken hearing this news. You had so much life ahead of you... :(

Firstly, RIP Heath. The guy was a fucking top actor and it's tragic how the media hype and attention can make speculation into fact about every facet of ones life. He clearly didnt enjoy it, and it's sad that he was obviously having personal problems whilst being under the media spotlight. No doubt many others are dealing with that too - everyone needs privacy.

Agreed. I say this as an atheist (so my understanding might be off), but no true christian would be supporting the phelps cult ideals. Jesus, believe in him or not, was known for standing up for the outcasts of society such as lepers or prostitutes. If he really was a man of his word, he would be standing up for homosexuals too.

Very sad news, I had grown to like him a lot and I honestly believe that he was one of the brightest flames within the younger actors.

At least he will be made legendary thanks to his role as Joker in The Dark Knight.

Rest in peace.

There's no need to hope that it wasn't substance abuse. There's no evidence to suggest that and the people who do know him have mentioned that he was having trouble sleeping and had serious respiratory problems (pneumonia). From there, it's not hard to see the likely cause of his death - taking sleeping pills with respiratory problems probably killed him - which is really sad. Since he was face down on the floor when they found him, he must've been somewhat conscious before his death, and unknowing of the cause of his imminent death. I think it's the ignorance of not knowing why you're about to die that is the saddest thing. I really feel for him, especially in those moments.

He was a great actor, and I'm still looking forward to The Dark Knight. His daughter is the one, however, who will be hurt the most here, and I wish all the best for her and her family. I never really knew that he was from here (Perth), but I do know some people in the acting business around here and I'm sure they'll have some stories to tell. He'll be missed.

he got kids and wife and a family in australia... but lets wait until tomorrow and see what the report says.

Last night i was watching the dark knight trailer and was thinking how awesome his performance was shaping up to be. I don't know why but i kinda feel bad that i was doing that pretty much around the time he died.

Also if you think some neogaf members were disrespectful then i suggest you don't read the youtube comments for the dark knight trailer.

I think what's pissing people off is you going ahead and calling him a selfish bitch on the chance that maybe he overdosed. You have no idea what happened so why make a tasteless disrespectful comment like that.

I was watching reviews for some of Ledger's films on ebert & roeper's website. They gave thumbs down to 10 things about you, but Ebert mentioned it did have on great scene in it, that he seemed to want to defend. http://youtube.com/watch?v=wWV7LWyTFQM

listening to hot 97 this morning miss jones took it upon herself to claim he was depressed over the custody battle for his daughter. she then went on to say she has no sympathy for him because he was depressed and he shouldnt have been because he was rich.

god i hate this woman. she is so misinformed and she is allowed to say anything and get away with it. i mean this is nothing compared to what she has said in the past, for example the tsunami disaster.

oh yeah and the ny post's headline is heath ODs on pills. never mind that there has been no determination yet on what exactly happened.

This last performance (Joker) was going to give him a lot of reputation,I'm sure...,and probably a legend status after his dead,but at the same time it seems it disturbed him and is one of the reasons of his dead.

Not that im disputing what we already know. However i'd imagine not everyone leaves a note for the simple issue of potentially being put off by the thoughts of those left behind. I personally doubt it was suicide though.

I read this last night, and when I awake this morning I was hoping to read that everything was a joke, or that was another actor and people was confused ...

Man I'm in shock, this was totally unexpected, and his 2-year old child... :(

And I think that everyone worrying about TDK honours him, people here loved the effort Heath put into the Joker, thank you for all Heath.

BTW, just imagine this forum if it was Bale who died yesterday...

The thing that saddens me most is that I knew he was just starting to get known as an excellent actor...
Brokeback mountain was the first of his great movies and TDK will be his second and last :(
