msnbc again:

NEW YORK - A New York Police Department spokesman says the actor Heath Ledger has been found dead at a downtown Manhattan residence.

According to TMZ.com, Ledger, 28, was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 p.m. ET Tuesday.

The actor has a two-year-old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams. Ledger was set to play the Joker in the upcoming Batman film "The Dark Knight." He received an Academy Award nomination for his work in "Brokeback Mountain."

if "drug related" means he had pills scattered around that could mean a few things. If he had an addiction problem I don't remember it being as widely known as other celebrities. However, if it was a purposeful overdose that makes it almost a suicide.

Horrible either way, but we need more info.

Not to be crass, but I hope he finished filming TDK before he died. Truly sucks, too. I wonder what happened with him. He didn't seem like the type to be doped up or depressed.

Really sad. He was a friend of a friend. Never met him but he was supposed to be very nice. Was a supporter of young artists and a fledgling director himself. I'd heard that he was having a hard time with his break-up.

This is absolute craziness. Just found out from my brother. Don't want to sound insensitive or anything...but what's going to happen with The Dark Knight now? I had my doubts at the beginning but he came through and pulled off, from what I can tell, an amazing performance.

Holy fuck, this just blows my mind. He's so young and talented and has always seemed pretty put-together to me. He's not one of those crazy celebrities like Britney that everyone just knows something bad is going to happen to. What terrible news!

Is there already speculation he may have been taking drugs? So sad.....

Seeing it confirmed everywhere now. Was definitely in my top ten, seriously underrated actor. Thought he was amazing for years. RIP, Heath.

p.s. you're a shit for running out on your kid if it was drugs :(

OMG, I didn't think this would upset me so much, but it does.

He was young, has a wife and doughter, was a great actor, was a rising star, ... This truely is really unexpected. :( :(

WTF? He's not my family; I didn't know him. People die all the time.

I'm concerned about The Dark Knight and that's the extent of it. Yeah yeah, it's sad, but that's life and I didn't know him personally.

I cannot believe that he died from a supposedbly overdose death. I hope it is not related to his 'research' into the Joker role but drug overdoses are tragic by any other means.

I wonder who would play the Joker in the next Batman film

Rest in Peace one of the young great actors in this generation.
