He used a combination of Anti-Depressant & Sleeping Pills as well as some Pain Killers. I seriously don't see how one can accidentally overdose on these pills, it seems fairly obvious that a combination of anti-depressants, sleeping pills, and pain killers is a horrible idea.

maybe he was desperate and took a chance taking so many pills, anyway don`t doctors have some sort of control on how much drugs can you mix?, why didn`t the doctor warned him?.

Er what? Doctors constantly warn people of not mixing drugs.

Some of the drugs were from outside the United States.

I'm guessing the oxycontin was a foreign prescription since it's difficult to get prescribed to in the US without being chronically ill. Of course, he could have used celebrity magic to get prescribed to it, I suppose.

Oh well. Bummer :(

hahahahaha oxy is sooo easy to get a hold of. A terrible terrible drug.

First tragedy, then farce.
as someone who had a more minor overdose of over the counter drugs recently.. its easy to do. You do it once and the effects are awesome. In my case, I was feeling sick so I started overdosing on cold/flu medicine. The first two days I felt great as a result of the cocktail.. then I started having severe allergic reactions.

If he was having that much pain/trouble sleeping it probably worked for him the first few times he did it, then it killed him.

I know it's insensitive but how the hell do you accidentally OD on a crap load of pills. Maybe its just me but some Doctor tells me to take handfulls of pills for insomnia I'm getting a second opinion.

It's easy to get a hold of, but everything up to this point has indicated that the drugs he had were legal.

He did have second opinions. Much too many, considering he has multiple doctors around the world probably crossing perscription drugs you shouldn't cross. And the way Heath's schedule was, the lack of sleep and that's effect on your decision making, the unkempt/unorganized lifestyle.. It's hard to excuse because you just can't do that, but you can understand how it happened.

I hurt my back recently and took a muscle relaxer and a vicodin at the same time and it was an INSANE high I'm talking Requiem for a Dream time. I should have looked up possible interactions, be careful when combining meds.

Well, if it's that easy, then wouldn't someone experienced with prescriptions know better? You don't ever take chances when you have a little girl that looks up to you and needs you.

There is no excuse. Forget about the celeb aspect. If he was that sick, then quit your job and take care of your health and your family.

I understand that the guy OD on pills. His dealer just had a paper on his wall that was a get out of jail free card.

Apparently its not an overdose but a bad combination of the drugs. He shouldn't have tried to mix and match the various pills :(

LMAO. I remember the first time I got really high on pills. I'm not sure that I would consider it Requiem For A Dream-esque, but I couldn't believe how fucked up I got. It's sad now that the combo you mentioned seems "small time" to me.

thank god I don't do that shit anymore!

So, I and others were right? And this dude was in fact a bit of a selfish dude for taking a risk that he as a father hardly has the privilege to take? And don't tell me he didn't know what he was doing; I've done my share of drugs, recreational and otherwise, and as I understand it Heath there had some experience too. And I'd certainly know that this particular mix would come with a certain level of risk. Accidental in the sense that he probably didn't mean to kill himself, but he knew what these drugs were.

I got really fucking high from some bastard mix of oxy and morphine after my skull surgery, and I probably would have enjoyed the high some years ago. In the ICU, though, you don't party in the ICU.

U.S. federal officials have launched an investigation in a bid to discover how actor Heath Ledger was able to get the prescription drugs that caused his death last month.

Now officials at the Drug Enforcement Agency have teamed up with police to find out how Ledger managed to obtain all his prescription drugs.

DEA spokesman Erin Mulvey says, "We are working with the NYPD to identify any illegally prescribed drugs that may have been prescribed to Ledger."

So they're officially labeling this "accidental"? That's probably being a bit generous.

Despite the recklessness of taking so many different kinds, unless he was trying to down entire bottles of each, he probably was not trying to kill himself. He was probably trying to knock himself the hell out though.

It's because of shit like this that I generally don't take pills. Ever. If I've got a headache, I'll work through it and wait it out. If it's really bad, I'll sleep it off. If I do take pills, it's because I know I definitely need it like I can see that I've just come out of surgery etc.

Maybe he had his wisdom teeth out then he told his dentist he was still in pain? That's how I got it...

I don't think it is that difficult for anyone with any type of stature to get prescription drugs legally (ie - by prescription). For most, it is probably as simple as asking a doctor straight up.

Look at Elvis. He was practically an amateur pharmacist. He'd look up a drug in a book, ask Dr. Nick for it, and he was getting stoned to the bejesus belt that night.

Same here, I rarely ever take pills of any sort. Not because I'm really scared to take them, but I generally get over being sick or having headaches naturally, and at about the same recovery time if I'm taking medication. Now if I were to break my leg or something...

Its very possible it wasn't an overdose ... but the mixture. If that is the case, than why wouldn't it be labeled accidental?

Bah. He knew what he was taking, and that there was a risk involved. It's a shame that a promising actor dies this way, but in the end it was still a very selfish act. If this was just your average dude who by a fluke made it into NeoGAF news, most people would agree with this.

i think it was an accident. mixing drugs is easy to do and has serious consequences.

TO did the same thing last year. It's not like that was an attempted suicide.

This really should hit home for me, but it's not. Every one of the pills in his system are my favs.

Then you're gonna die sometime soon if that's true.

I didn't realize GAF had so many junkies past and present.

I'm not a junkie. I realize moderation is the key to life.

I also realize mixing pain scripts, Benzo's, and sleeping pills isn't a very bright idea.

If I have no experience with drugs... then it's somehow a somewhat rational mix?

am I feeling bad? Yep. Is it because I'm not getting enough sleep? Probably. Is the depression and lack of sleep causing physical pains? Likely.

According to a report in the New York Post, Mary-Kate Olsen is refusing to talk with federal investigators about the death of 'The Dark Knight' star Heath Ledger unless she's given immunity. On the day of Ledger's death, Olsen was the first person called when her masseuse discovered the actor's body.

Will the feds subpoena lil' MK to find out what she knows about Heath Ledger's death?

The Post reports that Olsen's lawyer has rejected several attempts for the former 'Full House' actress to be questioned, and that she may be subjected to a grand-jury subpoena to discuss what she knew about Ledger's life and death.

"Everyone has been very eager to help, saying what a great guy Heath Ledger was, everyone except Mary-Kate, who has refused to speak," a Post source said.

Ledger died in January due to an accidental overdose of prescription medication. His final acting role as The Joker in 'The Dark Knight' has earned him Oscar buzz, and propelled the movie to nearly $400 million in ticket sales.
