Boiled chicken it is.I'll wait and see rather than rely on your definitive commentary on what the next Xbox is.

I'll be tearing up your ass with all that chili
If it is a PC, it needs to be priced like a PC. With a profit margin. PC gaming hardware is very expensive right now. Microsoft isn't going to subsidize an Xbox where everyone will just load up Steam.Money will be made on the hardware primarily. Of course, this device will heavily promote Game Pass as well. My guess is sales will be a fraction of Xbox Series due to the higher price point. Big question is pricing. If MS overprices this like they overpriced Surface then there will be little incentive for people to buy this over a gaming PC or laptop.
In theory, the streamlined system UI should be available on any PC or handheld. So if people don't like the price point, they can just buy a PC instead. The hardware will have to sell based on its own specs, price point or custom features.Sounds good.
A lot will depend on specs and price point.
I think it will offer a narrow window where hardware will offer good performance for price point. Max 2-3 yrs I say. After that pc parts will start coming offering better features and VFM.
They will have to offer new specs every 5 yrs or less to keep up with pc hardware development.
I see no issue in dropping cash every 5 yrs to get upto date performance.

The surface team is doing the design work, this will almost certainly be overpriced for what it is.

MS's idea since the moment they started to port to PC and bought Minecraft was to slowly move away from Xbox to become a 3rd party multiplatform publisher with Windows as home platform. That's even worse for the next-gen Xbox lol.
Yep, basically what PS and Xbox already are. But in this case pretty likely running as OS a consolized Windows to make ports even easier and cheaper, and also allowing other manufacturers to make their own 'Xbox' (a PC running Windows and following these HW specs).I mean the whole idea of the next Xbox is that it's gonna be a PC in essence but with a TV friendly shell that also has a specific set of specs in mind
Where do you get the idea that Sony is following the "future is PC"?They built their own grave. And Sony are incredibly following the same "Future is PC" path. It's not. The easiest way is on PC, sure.
But people do like buying dedicated boxes to play their games. hence PS4, PS5 (at this price...) and Switch successes in the age of "only PC and mobile future".
It will probably be boutique hardware aimed at people that can afford it, while the great unwashed play on other platforms. If it is a PC, it needs to be priced like a PC. With a profit margin. The current PCs already have it as most of the Xbox games releases on PC.If it has my Steam library and Xbox library, im down for it.
Yeah, it will compete with PC for sure, with less features. In theory, the streamlined system UI should be available on any PC or handheld. So if people don't like the price point, they can just buy a PC instead. The hardware will have to sell based on its own specs, price point or custom features.

Valve tried that and no one wanted it, I don't see why it would be different with Xbox.Yeah, it will compete with PC for sure, with less features.
It will likely be simplified with settings provided by xbox for seamless, console like experience. That will only be the selling point.
And gamepass.
So all playstation games are gonna be on the next Xbox.
They can definitely encourage whatever they want for their Xbox/Windows store. Achievements, controller support. Anyone that doesn't want to put it on that store can just put it on Steam. But yeah, there are still some MS games that are KB+M of course.
Lets flip the question.Valve tried that and no one wanted it, I don't see why it would be different with Xbox.
Lets flip the question.
If it can play all Playstation games via steam, why would anyone want Playstation system?
It's fucking brilliant is what it is.. PC gaming is taking over and it's just not deniable.. accepting that Windows gaming is their platform and making it more accessible to a console gamer is a winning strategy.. spoiler alert you'll be playing Spider-Man, last of Us and God of war on Xbox. It's super dead, isn't it?

It also brings the flaws of both lol.
This thing is so DOA, I will honestly be shocked if it succeeds.
There are still things to be known. Perhaps MS will sell hardware without loss.Where's the money to be made from this exactly? Steam, Epic, etc aren't going to give you a cut of their profits and those two storefronts will eat a big chunk out of any margin for profits that could be had from this.
On top of that you effectively aren't an Xbox anymore and you've lost your identity as a brand meaning this product is essentially a low spec PC.
I don't see anyway that this dosen't completely bomb sales wise, profit wise, and marketing wise because your average consumer is going to look at this and be like 'ohh a PC no thanks i already have one'.

Ehm, there is a long road between approved pitch and completed devkitsJez Corden and his schizophrenic Xbox reporting
One day the pitch for the next console has been approved, the other nothing exists but a boxed PC.
They were still looking at a traditional console, I don't think we are only getting the handheld (this year would be my bet) and the PC inspired boxSame reason why gamers have wanted consoles in general for years......cheap and easy.
It's fucking brilliant is what it is.. PC gaming is taking over and it's just not deniable
If people had been following along here at GAF they would have known this box would be a PC based machine with a user friendly console like experience, have been saying this for maybe a year now?
As far as no devkits as other said in the 2026 COD thread that of course there are no true devkits as its a PC based on specs
They were still looking at a traditional console, I don't think we are only getting the handheld (this year would be my bet) and the PC inspired box
So then you are wrong, Jizz.So maybe the Call of Duty rumor could be right
Finally after all these years with nothing but noise they acknowledge that there is no more xbox and that they are out of the console business.“There is no devkit for the next Xbox right now, the whole idea of the next Xbox is that it’s a PC but in a TV friendly shell”, 2027
It's super dead, isn't it?
All of those were being looked at but where they are at today I don't know about all 3So they are going to release a console, PC and a handheld?
Because they are a console gamer who doesn't want a PC? And because I see where you are going with this, no it's not the same for Xbox, because Xbox games are coming to PlayStation but the opposite isn't happening.Lets flip the question.
If it can play all Playstation games via steam, why would anyone want Playstation system?
So they are going to release a console, PC and a handheld?
I think there is a sub set of console users that is old, and wouldn’t mind a more capable albeit expensive system.Same reason why gamers have wanted consoles in general for years......cheap and easy.
That'd be cool. I could play Lost Odyssey or Perfect Dark remastered and then switch to my stupid big Steam library. If it has my Steam library and Xbox library, im down for it.
All of those were being looked at but where they are at today I don't know about all 3
Don't forget their chat logs from the FTC court case
I don't believe the 2028 timeline IF they bring a PC based system
- "Is the plan for 2028 to keep that [illegible] like model or force a Windows like flexible/capabilities like model?"
- "We have already started this journey with Xbox One and Xbox One X, furthering it in Series S | X," Kevin Gammill, corporate vice president of gaming ecosystems, replies, referring to Microsoft's experimentation with different-powered Xbox models in recent console generations.
- "We need to be even more flexible going forward with gen 10, but also provide the ability for creators to take advantage of unique hardware capabilities."
I think there is a sub set of console users that is old, and wouldn’t mind a more capable albeit expensive system.
It will target those.
I think xbox’s lack of mainstream ambitions means it will be a desirable system.
Higher price, higher specs, more premium and desirable product.
It sums up MS perfectly when it comes to XboxSounds like Microsoft is incredibly confused. Well....when aren't they?
But, it wont be a pc.Those people will have bought a PC already though.
Re-read the OP, watch the video, what differentiates this from any other PC other than having a more “under the TV” friendly size?
Ehm, there is a long road between approved pitch and completed devkits
But, it wont be a pc.
Games will run out of the box using xbox provided optimised settings.
