Jez Corden: "Dont expect Final Fantasy VII REMAKE for Xbox, Final Fantasy XVI and Pixel Remasters will be announced for Xbox at TGS"

Sony shouldn't pay for these to be exclusive, that being said they aren't going to sell well on xbox so now this whole idea that somehow skipping on the 3rd place console where their games haven't sold well in the past is somehow the reason their games aren't meeting expectations can be proven false.

FFRebirth exclusive period has already expired (lasted 3 months, so Feb 29th to May 29th), and I'm sure FFRemake exclusive period was expired a long time ago.

Square Enix can do whatever they want with those games, but if I was in their shoes, I'd rather put all the resources on Switch 2 ports.

These games wont sell well cause they are made in a specific way.

What SE needs is a game changing plan. Make games that everyone from PS players to PC players to those on xbox can enjoy.

There is really no reason why a good game won’t sell on xbox.

Right, because SE is too busy porting FF7R to Switch 2 (where it will actually sell)

By the way, how are Bayonetta 3 and Astral Chain doing?

There is really no reason why a good game won’t sell on xbox.

There really are:
1)Xbox is not a successful platform and their installed base is non existent in Japan and Europe.
2)Microsoft has created the expectation among their players that either something is on Gamepass or it's not worth to buy it. The product is a Gamepass box.
3)There is no Final Fantasy fanbase on Xbox.

Final Fantasy on Xbox is a pointless effort in terms of actual sales.
It can make sense if Microsoft just wants to claim at a marketing level that Final Fantasy is on Xbox or possibly even on Gamepass and Square Enix wants some easy money bags to make up for the games missing sales target.

So now the narrative will be:

FF XVI good
FF VII remake bad
Funny thing is actually, those who have changed the narrative the most with this game are the ones who now complain about others changing their narrative with this game 🤷😉

Regarding the OP's topic, I think the arrival of FFX XVI would be positive for the Xbox plataform because with it you can say that the entire series is on XBOX, but it shouldn't be any celebration to receive late ports.

What would be important and worth celebrating for Xbox users should be the announcement of upcoming FF or big SE IPs arriving on Xbox consoles DAY ONE and that is what will truly dictate if that handshake between P. Spencer and the new CEO of Square meant something or it was a simple theatrical opera.

Perhaps to achieve this you need to first release those games on that platform on an ongoing basis.....and not rule out for a full decade or inflict insecurity about or the possibility of playing that franchise on that platform.

Releasing ports of those games is at least the necessary step if you want to expand the FF fan base. Because at a time when its influence, visibility and following are declining, limiting the franchise to the user base of a single platform at a time of declining was the worst decision you can make today.

Surely that would be the reason for being released on XBOX.... which I don't know where the reason for calling it "pointless effort" is.

It feels like it's a negative thing that more people could have the oportunity of play a game and the Studio/publisher can make their games more profitable.🤔

Didn't do well on PC.

These won’t sell well on xbox cause they didn’t sell good enough on Playstation either.

If SE makes enough changes and releases truly worth playing title, it will sell well on xbox. Eg Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, Monster Hunter World etc.

Final Fantasy has been multiplatform during the 360 generation with the XIII saga and on Xbox One with XV, they got remasters of all old classics.
XIV didn't happen because of Microsoft’s policies.
It's basically the FF7 Remake project they're missing and the half-disappointment FFXVI.
The fanbase was not built in general because there is no presence in Japan and because Xbox has always positioned themselves like a dude bro console, people interested in JRPGs have never considered Xbox like a valid platform in general not just for FF.

At this point the move is out of time, out of place, out of reality.
They bring titles on Xbox when the platform is almost dead and the platform holder is bringing their titles elsewhere "pie_tears_joy:
It's a scrape the bottom of the barrel move that will lead to nothing.

Square Enix needs to:
1) Decide what Final Fantasy should be and stop chasing trends by constantly alienating fans (action/ non action, mature/teen drama, open world/linear).
2) Release high quality games like Rebirth regularly and try to reach all the new generations of gamers they have completely missed in a decade of fuckups.
3) Focus on the right platforms aka PlayStation, PC and Switch 2 in Japan.

This stuff has to come day and date or it doesn’t matter. Everyone who cares about the pixel remasters already has a switch or more likely a PlayStation.

Oh and a years late port of a literal 5/10 modern final fantasy game? Big whoop.

FF7 seems to be copium. I swear we heard the remakes were contracted as a PS exclusive indefinitely. Guess we will see.

So this week what the critics think matter ? .... neogaf should really establish if the mainstream critics and media should be trusted or not ... to much fluctuations as it is. So becames a little hypocritical.

FF fans are barely purchasing it. It can't hurt SE to make it available to a wider audience.
Sales numbers not meeting Squares ridiculous expectations doesn't mean the game didn't sell. They'd be in more trouble if they put this on Xbox. Paying MS for licensing and all only to walk away with 3 sales on Xbox is a stupid choice. Xbox fans don't buy games. It's a problem Phil created.

even i they are available at xbox, dont expect a significant sales from it too.

FF surely need a multiplatform like pc and switch release but right now i dont see how much can xbox contribute. especially considering people there already 'trained' to wait things drop 'free' at gamepass.

but to expand the mindshare, more platform is better and FF right now need to do that.

SE sales expectations are high due to the costs of modern game development. FF audience hasn't grown and in some regions like Japan sales have fallen off quite a bit - FF7 Remake sold 700k+ in its first week in Japan, while FF7 Rebirth sold 260k+ in its first week. While an audience might still exist for the franchise, escalating costs will not allow SE to ever meet expectations without changes.

Making FFVII a trilogy hurts us gamers so much, but once the trilogy is finished and we take a retrospective look, then we'll know that it was for the best.
I can't wait until they decide to pull off a FFVII Trilogy Definitive Edition with each game linking swiftly with the next.
P.D: In my opinion, the FFVII Remake and Rebirth ad campaign was a disaster. Big corporations should seek counsel from people who understand the games they want to advertise better.
Nope. But after playing both FF7 games, I can’t say they were good. I couldn’t even finish Rebirth on PS5. It was just boring and filled with minigames.
FFVII Rebirth is one of the best games of all time, even better than the original FFVII (but its impact hasn't been as great, which is impossible considering it's a "remake", and the trilogy isn't even finished).

And buying a license to make a game that is guaranteed to have little to no sales isn't going to help them. They get more sales porting this over to a Nokia phone.

Games sales might be low on Xbox due to Game Pass, but it doesn't entirely negate its markets willingness to still buy games on the off occasion. They'd still make more than the cost of porting these games over, especially if they tie a deal with Microsoft to release it on Game Pass. It's just silly to think otherwise. It's not a dead platform.

Square Enix needs to just accept that Final Fantasy, while popular and has a fanbase, is not an out of this world must own. They've drastically overestimated the popularity of the franchise.

You think Xbox fans would actually purchase a game? They'd only accept it on GP.
I don't understand why this keeps getting repeated. Very few of the people I play with have GP. I know that's hardly an accurate representation of the whole population, but it's still strange.

FF on Xbox became relevant enough that not releasing the next FF there was a bad decision. At a time when a ~million units sold can be the difference between amortizing or making profits and or meeting expectations.... throwing away that user base is a bad decision, whether you want to admit it or not. Even more so when the visibility and monitoring of the franchise shows clear signs of decline.

Then, FFXVI is anything but a traditional JRPG and is closer to a game for "dude bros" than for Japanese tastes.

It's funny to me the " Is not for the Xbox users", because the same thing was also said about SOULs type of games and there you have how Dark Soul and EldenRing sell fantastically on XBOX.
At this point the move is out of time, out of place, out of reality.
They bring titles on Xbox when the platform is almost dead and the platform holder is bringing their titles elsewhere "pie_tears_joy:
It's a scrape the bottom of the barrel move that will lead to nothing.

The reality is that 99% of publishers and Studios release their games on XBOX and that so many games of all types and origins have never been released in that numbers on Xbox consoles. And this happens for a reason and that is that it is still financially interesting to release games on Xbox whether you like to hear it or not. Among other things, because the developments are so expensive in cost and time that any additional sales, extra income and free marketing can be decisive in the success and prosperity of a franchise.

The feeling is that some of you are too affected by this happening and I don't understand the reason. I don't think it's bad to sell 600k-1m units of a game whose port to XBOX I doubt costs more than the returns on those sales and the advertising savings you get. But of course, for that what you have to do is launch it day one and offers a good game.

Square Enix needs to:
1) Decide what Final Fantasy should be and stop chasing trends by constantly alienating fans (action/ non action, mature/teen drama, open world/linear).

Rather, what I believe is that they have to work on finding the correct formula. And the correct one will be the one that attracts new and old users alike. Today, games that have their user base very focused on a single market or a few certainly have a problem recovering investments of $200+ millions.

2) Release high quality games like Rebirth regularly and try to reach all the new generations of gamers they have completely missed in a decade of fuckups.
3) Focus on the right platforms aka PlayStation, PC and Switch 2 in Japan.
The correct platform is the union of all platforms. Where there is a user to add, where there is a platform where the visibility and marketing of the franchise can be expanded, where you can get extra returns to amortize and make profitable the cost of developments, where in the future it can become a new platform, and where to reach other users (the cloud).

Closing doors and limiting your user base is the worst decision you can make today, even more so with the uncertain future of where technology and the video game business is going.

Capcom, NamcoBandai, Sega, etc.... are doing that and they are doing much better than SE.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see if this is true, however I can see some people tasting salt, others eating crow and some others posting the SE shot themselves on the foot meme

You had to go more than 30 years ago to justify a situation..... congratulations.
There is no situation and conditions more different from what exists today.

-FF was not even close to a mainstream IP.
-PS1 was the generation where video games reached the masses and existing franchises became IPs for millions.
-2D to 3D -Costs and development times 1/100 lower than current ones.
-Selling 1 million units was an unprecedented success.

You might want to look at the platform splits for those games

And??

The important thing is that the investment is profitable in one way or another. If they continue to release those games more than ever on Xbox, it's because it is. At that point. Why does Sony sell games on PC that have sold 10x less than on PS5?

Well square stopped releasing ff games on xbox after a decade of day 1 releases. So I guess it wasn’t that profitable for them. Most Japanese developers regularly skip xbox nowadays unless ms writes a check. Including the likes of capcom. But I guess all these companies are just stupid according to you.

LOL. The only reason FF (the main series) stopped coming out on Xbox is simply that Sony paid large sums to SE because it believed at some point that it was going to compensate it. The fact is that there you have SE recognizing that it was a disastrous decision and that it returns to multiplatformity including XBOX (to your annoyance it seems)🤷

???😂😂

I don't know what reality you live in. In today's real world, more and more publishers and Studios of all types and origins (including the Japanese) are releasing their games on Xbox consoles in a number never seen before. You should inform yourself better.
I highly doubt that MS is giving checks to everyone to make it happen when it never did before with X360 and XBO. But even if MS did, I don't know where the problem is when has always been asked to make an effort. Imagine criticizing MS for not making efforts in Japan and also criticizing them for making them😂🙃

In the end you have to, for whatever reason, publishers or Studios continue to release their games more than ever on Xbox and I can assure you without a doubt that they do it because they achieve incentives and returns by doing so.

When before the conversation was about franchises like Persona, MonsterHunter, KingdomHeart, Yakuza, DragonQuest... etc, etc. that did not come to Xbox, today the conversation is about extra-super niche games and some collection (Capcom) of retro games that, funny, have finally been announced that will also come out to Xbox... That tells you everything about the situation and wonder who the stupid ones are.

People are terrible at listening because Jez didn't state that those games would be there, he guessed. It wasn't reporting, and that twitter account constantly "reports" incorrect things.

Is it that time again?

Where we play: What did Jez tweet mean?

In this game Jez will allude to X, and whatever happens it's your fault for thinking that he said X.

Because it could also be interpreted as Y.

The only winning move in this game is not to play.

The "season pass" so far hasn't been on sale.

I know that because I bought FFXVI at launch and I loved the game, but I am still waiting for the dlc to go on sale (I don't think that the dlc is worth the full price).
I just checked my transaction history. You are correct. I got the base game on a sale for $34.99 and got the Expansion Pass for $24.99 in the same transaction. This was on 5/3/24.
