Gonna be some fun times ahead starting next month! Really looking forward to the Pro as it can potentially enhance the game experience for some of the heavier AAA games for sure. I have a large screen 4K OLED in a home theater so I would say I'm probably among the target audience for the PRO. That said, the PRO is NOT for everyone and not all games need a PRO enhancement (*coughs* Astrobot).

I must admit though, I am disappointed by what we've seen from Sony 1st party titles in their use of the PRO thus far. Most of the games like TLOU PT1/PT2, SpiderMan 2, Ratchet and Clank, and Demons' already run pretty well with great IQ. With the 120hz VRR mode, the fidelity settings already run at 40-50fps with native 4K in most cases so it would have been sufficient to leverage the raw "45%" GPU uplift to get that to 60fps or at least comfortably in the 48hz+ range for VRR.

But i there is a belief that PSSR can still add value, then why not apply it to the fidelity mode instead of the performance mode? Seeing games like TLOU pt2, Spiderman 2, and Ratchet and Clank apply their single PRO mode on top of the existing performance mode basically just means that they're taking the Perf mode and apply a "better" reconstruction technique on top of it. Sure the image is sharper but the fidelity mode does have higher settings in some cases such as a the crowds in R&C or the lower quality water in TLOU. Also, in SM2 and R&C the RT effects were noticeably lower in the base performance modes. A PRO should be the best of everything and not just sharper image with lower settings. Seeing how much better the fidelity mode looks in Alan Wake 2 or the new Silent Hill 2 remake, who would want to just have a sharper performance mode as the "PRO" setting? That is not the best of both worlds promise that Sony mentioned in the reveal. Rather it's just a sharper Perf mode.

The most exciting examples of utilizing the PRO thus far are titles like F1 24, Dead Rising Remake, Hogwart's Legacy, and Jedi Survivor based on the little bit we know thus far. Why? Because they are adding meaningful additions that were not possible on the base machine and thus transforming the experience. The RT reflections and AO in Dead Rising while still running at 4K/60 w/PSSR is great and makes a notable difference. Obviously we see the difference the RT effects can make in F1 24, putting the PRO much closer to the max PC experience while still maintaining 4K/60 w/PSSR. Hogwart Legacy's RT effects can have a profound impact in some scenes and those effects were completely out of reach on the base PS5 (and Series X). Getting those RT effects at 60fps is not realistic seeing as how heavy that game's RT mode is on PC ( need a 3090Ti to avg 60fps at 1080p!). But they'll still have a fidelity mode (no RT) with higher settings runner at higher res and frame rates on PRO. And adding the RT effects to the performance mode in Jedi Survivor with sharper image at 60fps is truly a best of both worlds situation.

PSSR would be really good for that game but i think the boost mode will make it a locked 60fps atleast
I'm honestly not bothered with the performance, the IQ though is another story, really distracting.

If (as it would seem) the dev team’s allergic to any form of AA, the best you can hope for is native 2160p60 like Persona 5 Royal.

Not sure what resolution Metaphor is running on PS5, but if could get to Persona 5 Royal IQ i'd be satisfied.

I haven't looked myself yet, but someone the other day said Silent Hill 2 says Pro Enhanced on the Store. No clue if it's true or not.

Should be a list of popular games prior to release and EVERY game afterward.

It's exactly like the 4Pro with what they expect of developers.

I'm positive they will compile a list closer to launch.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
If Final Fantasy XVI gets updated, I'll force myself to finish it on the Pro. If not, well, maybe I'll replay it on PC in a couple of years
 
Tomorrow Sony's stock does a 5-1 split and it's a day before retail pre-orders open let's see if it's accompanied with any type of Pro PR to increase awareness.

Developers can submit their applications supporting the PlayStation 5 Pro to CertOps (Platform Certification & Operations) on July 30th, a date understood to have been finalized as far back as 18 months ago. In addition, all applications for the PlayStation 5 on games that will be released after September 15th will be required to support the PlayStation 5 Pro (this does not mean the PS5 Pro will release on September 16). So, although not an exact release date, the information, which was released by PlayStation earlier this week to developers, suggests that the PlayStation 5 Pro is still on track to be released later this year.

Why all of these games aren't listed as having PS5 Pro enhancements is beyond me, but it is possible they have a certain amount of time to release PS5 Pro patches on these titles. I don't know.

The requirement for PS4 Pro was also for 'support'. It would be problematic if every developer was forced to Enhance their games for the Pro console.

But I am pretty sure most big games will release with PS5 Pro Enhancements.

Don't think that adds up, while specific features might not be required for PS5 Enhancement, I think it would be more than "running natively" all PS5 games will inherently run in boost mode utilizing the full CUs.

If anything it would be games are required to use updated SDK that includes other improvements such as the improved memory as well.

That being said, with that SDK, I would be surprised to see games that don't utilize PSSR but do utilize FSR.

Boost mode is not a native mode, it's overclocked normal mode
PS4 Pro has 3 modes:
1. Normal - clock and CU are the same as Vanilla
2. Boost - CU same as Vanilla and CPU/gpu clocks are boosted
3. Native - full CU usage and clocks are boosted

PS5 Pro support has to imply a specific Pro Mode for the game, otherwise it makes no sense

PS5 Pro of course is 100% backwards compatible with base PS5, so it's a moot point saying a PS5 game should run on it

My guess is that the "Enhanced for PS5" label refers to OLDER games released BEFORE September 16

You don't need that label now that support is mandatory

I'm hoping with Dead Space, without a patch (I bet EA dont give it one). It irons out the unstable frame rate and occasional stutter and negate the need for VRR. Which would be great.

Some games are low budget and can't afford to branch 2 versions, when pro version will be economically detrimental for project, some low thousands sales on Pro will not even cover dev/testing cost.

If that's the case, then the September 15 dealine is useless as devs can simply IGNORE PS5 Pro existence and make PS5 games as usual. PS5 Pro is backwards compatible anyway

I don't think they can do that

They can, in feature set, but they cannot, in compatibility mode. They will not get certification approval if game can't run in native mode on ps5pro
Again - basic Pro mode is utilizing all it's power (+60% CU) and this mode is required. It still will give performance boost in games with DRS and uncapped/unstable fps.
Old games are not explicitly required to support native mode, they will get only a very small boost from clocks in boost mode. Even with DRS they will perform about the same as basic PS5 without patch.
But no game required to actually support Pro with features not present on basic model. It an option for devs as it requires extra efforts from them.

I'm going to be so disappointed if all we're getting from most games is performance mode with PSSR instead of Fidelity mode with it. That would be really pathetic for cross gen games like Last of Us 2. Even for current gen games that would defeat the purpose of the Pro. Ohhh, we get better iq in performance mode! But have to settle for lower graphical settings?! I don't think so Sony ...i think we need to ask ourselves did Sony screw up with the Pros hardware and not give it enough GPU grunt to get Fidelity mode for Spiderman and Last of Us 2? On top of that the CPU is very important to getting the most out of Ray Tracing capabilities. .is this why there doesn't seem to be anything left for RT after pssr is added?

Im not happy with what ive seen of the pro so far ...also: no Cyberpunk 2077 with good RT on console still as theres no Pro patch. Black Myth Wukong would've been such a perfect candidate for Pro patch. FF16 an obvious candidate.

I know I sound doom and gloom but it seems this gen is destined to disappoint. The Pro was supposed to fix that ...why build a Pro for performance mode improvements for $800 lol

A 2021 game will run on PS5 Pro just like one from 2025
Game released in 2021 will run almost the same on Pro as on basic PS5 sans small boost from overclocking if turned on
Game released in 2025 will run significantly better on DRS/fps front as it will utilize better GPU

There are 4 stages on Pro transition:
1. Full compatibility - performance of Pro is the same as performance of basic model. It a base scenario for 2021 game
2. Boost mode - it's a base model with overclocked CPU/GPU. It'll give some performance boost, but not that much. This mode was manual on PS4 Pro with disclaimer that there might be issues (and there were, seldomly, that you had to turn it off)
3. Native Pro mode - it's unlocking extra CU on Pro, same as switching on better GPU, games will fully utilize extra power (PS dont switch to this mode automatically all older game as it could bring a lot of issues), but no extra features as they require explicit implementing
4. Enhanced Pro mode - devs implements features not present on basic model into game, like CBR on Ps4Pro and PSSR on PS5Pro

Stage 3 is required for all 2025 games, stage 4 is optional

I am surprised to not see Silent Hill 2 on that list. I thought that all new PS5 releases in the run up to the launch had to have support for the Pro according to Sony?

I am expecting the game to get better RT support to match the PC version but I guess until that patch arrives the Pro's Boost mode will at least offer a stable and locked 30 fps in the Quality mode. I am not expecting it to lock to 60 fps for the Performance mode though without a patch and even with a patch I don't think it'll happen but if the game can hold 48-60 fps then at least VRR should make the experience smoother.
