List of PS5 Pro enhanced games

Yes. I still feel the fps drops with VRR enabled in every game. Thats not a saving grace for me

PSA : for some reason, I've noticed that when you have the "enable VRR for unsupported games" option enabled under the generic VRR option in the PS5 display menu, the framerates get even worse when there's fluctuations/drops.
Tested AW2 (back when I had the base console) and the frame drops were actually more noticeable/pronounced when I had the option turned on Vs off.
Same thing with Stellar blade when playing on "balanced" mode, while that option would usually iron out some very minor framerate drops, when the game dropped frames, it would be way more pronounced.

On Space Marine 2, a game with HEAVY drops on base console, having the option enabled would make the game feel "slower" for a lack of a better word, like the game would constantly run at a weird framerate not ever reaching 60fps, like everything felt "heavier" when turning the camera etc.

I'd like to hear an explanation from the more technically proficient peeps as to why would that be.

This is on a LG C2 btw

While I'm not more technically proficient than you, it sounds to me like it's a bug at the system level. I can't imagine that it is supposed to be that way and I hope they fix it soon.

Has it been that way since PS5 launch? Or is this something that you've noticed recently?

It's something that's still there even when using the Pro.

Again, it's very simple to reproduce said behavior :
1) Pick a game that you know it has framerate drops and DOESN'T support VRR natively - some games have drops during specific instances/parts/scenarios, easier to try it that way.
2) Have "enable VRR for unsupported games" turned OFF
3) Give the game with the problematic segments from step 1 a go, notice the framerate.
4) Go back to PS5 display settings, turn "enable VRR for unsupported games" to ON
5) Go back to the game you were playing , notice the framerate - framerate drops are going to be more pronounced.

I really don't know what to say, it's something that it's there, then again people didn't notice the PS Portal's Hz mismatch stutter so what do i know...

Now, it's either a bug(?) with the PS5, OR, it could be some kind of incompatibility issue with LG OLED sets ?

PS : Under the "enable VRR for unsupported games", there's a disclaimer mentioning to turn the option off if you experience any abnormalities in games - maybe it's this they're referring to ?

I know, that's why I'm confused some people think it's because of the Pro. Shimmer has been present on a lot of PS5 games. I didn't play Cyberpunk because of it's bad IQ since they introduced FSR2, was waiting on the Pro update, now they said they won't do it I might have to play it on base lol

The game is amazing and it still looks great though

I am currently playing on a subpar TV to test this out currently, as I am travelling for work. When I get home in a few weeks, I'll test this out on my Hisense U8N.

I have noticed that Sony's lingo is very vague these days, and it sounds like they've been sued in the past for not living up previous claims. So now there are disclaimers galore and they don't really explain 'features' that are part of the System settings, such as the PS4 graphics enhancements. It seems like it's impossible to actually get a straight answer from them as of late.

I think I am enjoying PS5 games on my PS5 Pro that don't use PSSR more than those that do at the moment. Non-Pro patched games with dynamic resolutions or wobbly 30 or 60 fps framerate targets obviously benefit from the Pro immediately and the games with the best image quality by far in my opinion are Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and Horizon Forbidden West, neither of which use PSSR!

Of the PS5 Pro enhanced games that do use PSSR, my experience has been that these are a mixed bag, often trading in one set of issues with FSR (pixel 'fizzle' in motion) for other issues such as texture flickering, shimmering on specular highlights and aliasing. Even the games that supposedly have good PSSR implementation have their own issues such as Final Fantasy Rebirth, which, yes, does look much better at 60 fps now than on the base PS5 but in the Costa Del Sol region that I am playing in the game is rife with flickering shadows that have obvious cascades that are right in front of the player as well as tons of LOD issues and pop in (plants fading or popping in close by). It's really quite distracting and ugly, and even worse when you zoom around on one of those wheelie things. It's such a shame that the developers didn't increase the visual settings at all as the original Fidelity mode still has all the same issues despite running at 30 fps. Roll on PC version (which will likely have stuttering... *sigh*).

I also tried the updated Gran Turismo 7 and felt immediately underwhelmed by the supposed Pro enhancements. Sure, the game looks gorgeous but it always did on the base PS5. I realised that including RT reflections during the races is pretty much pointless as I never even noticed any car on car reflections. And, of course, if you watch the replays then the RT reflections become apparent from the different camera angles but the base PS5 already had those anyway. I did not notice any improvements to the image quality either despite it using PSSR. Great game but an extremely lacklustre update. I would have rather the developers push out the draw distance - shadows still have an obvious cascade for example - and car LODs instead of adding RT reflections to the race mode. From the cockpit view, it is almost impossible to see RT reflections anyway and the cube maps ones were always perfectly serviceable anyway.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Silent Hill 2 have poor implementations of PSSR and only the latter has been patched to fix it. I know Respawn have a bit of a reputation of being hopeless at fixing their games but, sheesh, did no-one do any quality control on either of those games?

PSSR has a surprisingly high performance overhead that makes me wonder if that 2ms isn't better spent on rendering the game at a higher base resolutions with temporal upscaling and/or increasing the graphical settings so the difference is more noticeable. In some games such as F1 24, the image quality with PSSR is actually worse than the base PS5 version as pointed out by Digital Foundry.

At the moment, PSSR is feeling disturbingly like NVIDIA's DLSS version 1.0. DLSS is awesome now but that only happened after a year with version 2.0. I am starting to feel like I am beta testing PSSR for the PS6.

huh i might try this out thanks, because i feel every fps drop on my C9 and some games stutters like crazy despite the fps being in the VRR range. Like AW2 for example

You're the first post I see mentioning FF7 Rebirth graphics issues! Everyone says the game looks great, including DF.
Because everyone is saying that I bought the game this weekend in the black friday deal.

Playing the first chapter (the flashback chapter) I couldn't stop thinking FF7 Remake looked better.
Low res looking textures in the enviroment and the pop-in. Oh man, shadows go from blurry to sharp in front of your feet! Massive pop-in of plants also in front of your feet. Cloud sometimes has an extremely low poly face during gameplay.
Why is everyone saying this game is a graphical benchmark? It just looks so last gen...

I have never heard anyone say it's a graphical benchmark. What they are saying is that the game looks great and sharp on the pro when compared to the blurry mess performance mode is on the base machine. The game has inherent graphical issues that neither the pro nor even the PC version will be solving, but at least the image quality is now good.

Fair enough, I guess I expected more from the graphics and that's why I'm dissapointed.

Games that have positively suprised me are Robocop (much better performance), Callisto Protocol (much better performance and graphics), GT7 VR and the Resident Evil games that are now playable at 60fps with RT enabled. Cool stuff.

Have very similar feelings and regretting buying it. Its just 30% faster console with underwhelming new upscale algorithm.

Haven't tried robocop, after seeing how bad performance could drop I didn't even bother. I would imagine it's still not locked to 60 under all circumstances, but in your experience how close is it in big firefights?

Is Dying Light 2 good? Is $23 on PSN right now has Pro update. I see there was an update this year.
I brought Stellar Blade and Rebirth. I have TLOU Part II, Callisto from Plus essential, Hoirzon 1 & 2, GT7, RE4, RE Village, NMS. I want to test other games that runs well on Pro. DD2, SH2 and Jedi Survivor will wait until they fix those games. Any other recommendation? Thanks.

I have a PS5 Pro now and I've got $15 in my PSN wallet. I'm debating on whether to do Stellar Blade, Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty, or to just do the $10 upgrades for Horizon Zero Dawn and TLOU Part 2.

Do you own burning shores for horizon FW? With pro mode on flying up in the clouds is genuinely like a killzone 2 reveal trailer moment when they fly through the clouds. Mind blowing. Not to mention the lava and the rest of it.

I actually don't have FW but it's not on sale. I'm sure it will be between now and Christmas though, maybe I should wait for that.

Also another question. Since the Pro has a higher power draw now, can it boost both the CPU/GPU to max at all times if needed? I’m not remembering if this was stated anywhere. It probably was, I just missed it or forgot.
I believe it can as that's what PS5 was supposed to do, but if one can't maintain boost and the other doesn't need to boost, it can shift power when necessary.

That's how I understood Road to PS5. Might be mistaken though.

Manhunt and the warriors PS2 classic for PS4 is "playable" on the PS5. And by playable I mean a crazy epileptic fit inducing strobe light effect from every light source. Has anyone loaded these on the Pro to see if they work now?

I've a 30th edition so I ain't taking that risk.

I've never seen this. But I might unknowingly be avoiding it. With my Sony TV, I have to manually change the HDMI format Tv side to enable VRR. But I don't leave it set to that as I get a subtlety better image without VRR HDMI format engaged. So, when I'm using VRR the PS5 sees my TV as a VRR capable panel. But when I dont use VRR, the PS5 doesnt see my TV as VRR capable.

The only other thing to be aware of. Is when in VRR, if you drop out of the VRR range, then it will of course show as stutters. Thats all I can think of.

Otherwise VRR on unsupported games, works without issue. I've never even seen any VRR flicker, ever. But ideally I do prefer the image that bit more when its just locked to 60fps and VRR is disabled.

I am curious about this. I thought it was actually way more decent on the Pro versus base. I will toggle the VRR option to off and see what happens. Is there screen tearing happening though with it off?

Performance is good and it looks sharp and detailed enough. But what's the point if tons of light sources cause constant texture flickering and horrendous shimmering. At times the textures on some objects like trees and other surfaces and plants are constantly turning/changing on and off. There can also be disco like effects happening to do with lighting on objects and around them. Its horrendous. Its so bad I've shelved the game. Its got some serious graphically bugs that need fixing.

I do think if they can fix those glaring bugs, it will look very good.
I actually got a white disco light effect on an indoor mission to steal an object in the center of the room. It could give someone an epileptic fit. Very strange.

It’s defo not perfect but to me at least it’s much crisper and smoother on the Pro which is the bare minimum.

Thanks I'm going to give this another play through and I'll probably go for the Platinum.

First play through I thought it looked unbelievable anyway and it was such a good game. Hyped for this now.
Goog luck getting the platinum. There are really very hard throphys

Just so you are all aware - there are many PS5 Pro Enhanced games that you can pick up used at GameStop for cheap, in case you want to try some out but pay a good bit less.

Yesterday, I got Lords of the Fallen for $17.99 (I got the Deluxe edition and the code still worked) and Dead Island 2 for $12.99.

Here are some other examples:

Gran Turismo 7 - 27.99
Resident Evil 4 - 17.99
Resident Evil Village - 19.99
Assassin's Creed Mirage - 17.99
Hogwarts Legacy - 24.99
Diablo IV - 17.99
Ratchet and Clank: Rift - 27.99
Jedi Survivor - 19.99

FYI. In case anyone doesn't have the TLOU2 upgrade it counts as a Pro game if you purchase and gives you the points on - The Power of PlayStation 5 Pro reward on PlayStation Stars. 750 points.

The Pop-in is the worst I've seen in a long time. Made actually stopped playing. A pet peeve of mine.

This is a comparison video of Dying Light 2. *Gaming Tech
In some scenes, you can see the difference even without zooming.
It's interesting to note that the PS5's frame rate is lower than the XSX because the graphics settings are at high.
I'd like to see a comparison with the PS5 OG.
  • Performance (4K with VRR up to 120 FPS): base definition at 1440p with improved shadows, global lighting, reflections, point shadows and subsurface diffusion quality. Fog also benefits from improved rendering. * PS5 Pro ver.

I just tested the patch that dropped this morning and it still shimmers like crazy. Go to the NYC area and you'll see. Every object that has fine edges (phone boots, grids, vents etc)....

I don't see what today's patch fixed but thats good news I guess to hear they're aware of problems ....so they spent months working on it? Not good because they've spent more time than most devs and still couldn't get the aliasing under control
..there's also been 3 patches since Pro launched and they havn't made headway with it ...

Have very similar feelings and regretting buying it. Its just 30% faster console with underwhelming new upscale algorithm.
Pssr definitely has an issue with fine edges/lines/patterns etc I see the same characteristic aliasing in every game I've tested just to varying degress...AW2 is still the worst. If you look carefully you can spot it even in games with great pssr except for a few games

I just can't believe we're even having to have this conversation at all. Sony being silent isn't helping.

what!? it take months to just tick "Enable PSSR" button? lazy developers
I doubt it's as simple as quite pressing a button but I doubt it takes months. Sounds like nonsense. If I remember somebody was able to mod DLSS into Starfield before Bethesda did so its obviously not something that takes a team of people.

Damn, "work of many months". I wonder if they can ask Sony directly for technical support when implementing PSSR.
In "many months" did they really not notice any of the issues gamers noticed immediately after the launch of the patch? Say that image quality is subjective and they thought it was fine, did they not see the worse framerate in the devkits that we know show fps numbers?
