I don't own this game but the GIF speaks multiple words.

Van Owen said:Scanning really does suck. It's bad enough the upgrades are few and far between, but then you have to scan for an hour to find enough materials to actually use them.
They need to get the loot aspect at least partially back for ME3.

chandoog said:Side quests usually involve you scanning uncharted planets, and if there's an anomaly on it, Edi informs you as such. Side quests often chain into other side quests as well, eg you might find a new location for the continuation of a side quest.
you'll need to buy star maps (in Illium) to open even more galactic pathways and such.
I don't know why people find scanning so bad, I just didn't obsess with mineral hunting that much, only hunted when a specific upgrade I wanted was available, and even then only mined in the "Rich" planets, they often have mineral spots which give off in the thousands at once. Nothing to it.
chandoog said:Way easier.
That's awesome. You know, say what you will about ME2 not having as much unprompted party banter as Dragon Age, but when it does pop up, it's so much better. If only because Shepard has a voice actor, and can join in on some of it.syllogism said:
You can't really get any easier than the last boss of ME1. I think both bosses kind of hit the rock bottom in difficulty. If you have fingers, you'll win, even if you're playing on Insanity.chandoog said:Way easier.

It's boring as shit, but it doesn't take more than a couple minutes of doing it to get whatever you need, and there's probably a good 3-4x or more what you'd need to research everything, so you never really have to go over the galaxy with a fine-toothed comb.Dries said:Is scanning really that bad? I find it to be really annoying, but like the guy said up above me you need to do it sadly.mYm|17| said:Kinda tedious, but you need the minerals for upgrades
Coxswain said:I wouldn't have minded it at all if they'd made it a little more interactive, the way you can find anomalies through audio cues as well as just following the little white line. I wish there was a way to trade in resources for credits, though. When you've got 60,000 Palladium and nothing to spend it on, with a bunch of stuff you still can't afford to buy left in stock at stores, it's a little grating.
Dries said:I'm the kind of gamer who is kinda obsessed with collecting though. I almost went and got every single treasure chest in Assassins Creed 2. Even though you don't get anything for it. Got all the feathers too. I just couldn't stand it if there were still icons on my map that I could clear.
So will this suck for me?
It's definitely not better than DA banter and that game had like 3 hours of itCoxswain said:That's awesome. My favourite bit so far, taking Garrus along on Mordin's loyalty quest (paraphrased):
Garrus: I don't like fighting in a hospital. This isn't going to be fun.
Shepard: What kind of places are fun to fight in?
Garrus (without missing a beat): Gardens, electronics shops. Antique stores, but only if they're classy.
In fact, I would play the shit out of a game that was just all-Garrus, all the time.

MegaKungFuRadio said:This isn't a collection thing you can win. Unless you set some sort of goal for yourself like 200,000 of each resource or get every planet to "depleted" there is no stopping point. At least with the treasure chests there was a map and you got a sense of completion out of it when there were no more to be found. You can't "complete" planet scanning, it's just a resource.

Im only 6 hours into the game, but I already have the feeling that Im going to end up liking it about as much, not more, not less, than the first game. Each have their own skillset, and I believe that ME3 could be the perfect title for me if they refine all that they've done right in ME2, while bringing back/beefing up a bit of the skill/levelling up depth and exploration from ME1.
SOOOOOO glad its almost the weekend. Ive only been able to play 2 hours each day so far, and Im really looking forward to having a day to sink 10 hours into it.
