I dunno, for online game it's especially cheaper to pay $70 upfront than to shill $20 a month regardless of a platform. Another hot take is that SP games are more suited for GP model in general, not premium MP titles.

You do realize that when you pay $70 for COD, you’d still have to pay a monthly fee for online play?

So the calculation isn’t $70 vs $20 GP sub per month.

It’s $70 + $10 per month (if you subscribe monthly) vs $20 per month for GamePass ultimate.

In essence, the price delta isn’t THAT much, and you’d also have access to lots more games.

I'm quite sure that the mentioned sub spike is coming from the people who paid $20 tops to be done with campaign (always-online this time too) and forget about CoD for a year.

Perhaps?
But campaign only players were less likely to buy day one at full price anyway.

I can’t stand the lies anymore .. first it was that guy Phil, now is this new dude that only cares about his bonus!

Tell us that CoD is a failure, because it obviously is, and let’s just move on with shutting down the hardware business because we’ve all had enough of that

MS itself is not expecting much from CoD on service side per it's own guidance though

Curious to see what the numbers will be after a month. I'm guessing quite a few people bought gamepass for a month to try it or just pay single player. I noticed just today I still have a free month of gamepass that I'm use to try out zombies but will wait till Indiana Jones to release and get to pay that for free to.

Gamepass subscribers pay money for the subscription.

And they also pay for the $30/€30 extra content pack (which is still at the top of the sales charts in stores and Xbox Store) and the microtransactions...

Everything points to the fact that COD BO6 on Gamepass day one has not turned out to be a bad idea (clearly not the disaster that some anticipated).... It is also true that we are talking about a more anticipated launch and with better reviews than COD 2023 and that is also an aspect to be valued to understand the increase in sales.

At the end of the day, with these results, everything points to the fact that the next COD 2025 will also be on Gamepass.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
????

Money came from team Windows/Office. Not Team Xbox. that doesn't make money.

This isn't the FY earnings topic, chief. You're in the wrong one.

Yep, the last time a CoD game reviewed this well was all the way back in 2018.

It goes a long way that Blops 6 was a highly anticipated game as well.

That engagement through the roof lol. Good for them, cod has been pretty mid the past couple of years and this one seemed to have gotten good reviews.

60% more sales on PS5 and Steam vs last year edition, still `Steam top seller. At the same time record of new subs on GamePass, this will show MS that there is little risk with this approach. This could mean all big releases day 1 on all platforms and Gamepass, if they can keep it to 2-3 big games per quarter (possible with so many studios) - must plays - people will start to see what value gamepass offers.
You know what I had my doubts about this approach at first when rumors started circulating but at this point as long as they keep putting out fun games I enjoy playing I don't really care what system they end up on. I do want at least one more Xbox console generation though whatever form that may end up taking.

So basically Sony and Steam won big here over Xbox because isn’t this game like $69 on PS5 and Steam while it’s zero for existing game pass members lol.

People could sign up to game pass for like $5-$15 beat the game or play MP for a month and cancel.

Game pass really screwed them up IMO. They should have gated the content early and not have the day one thing so Xbox gamers would have continued to buy games full price in their ecosystem.
You must have missed the news, to be honest it was barely covered outside of highly specialized outlets, but MS bought Activision.

Indeed, Starfield’s release day set a new record for most new Game Pass subscriptions in a single day. While Nadella did not share sales numbers for Starfield, he said that over eleven million users had played the game with nearly 50% of hours having been played on PC.

Yep, big numbers. Still need more runway, and to dig into the actual sales numbers and see what's really going on.

We know Microsoft loves to boast about numbers.

Starfield increased subscribers, but as Mat Piscatella pointed out last year Game Pass subscribers were flat overall.

What's going to matter is how many copies were sold on Xbox and how many subscribers were gained.

I mean good for ms
But
What about revenue ? Dollars made ?
Units sold ? The fuck happened to the metrics that mattered.
I mean how many gamepass boys and girls have downloaded and are currently playing this ? How many memberships increased etc etc

It's threads like these that remind us why MS/Xbox fans either don't exist here so much on GAF or just don't post. As usual well played fan boys and girls with shit takes.

A game releases across all platforms and performs well, but better yet is actually getting good player reception for a quality game, and it still gets shit on. Grow the fuck up.

Eh.....we had Xbox fans shitting up Astro Bot threads not too long ago. It goes both ways.

Congrats to Xbox for their hard work nurturing an IP that started as a small, niche game. Their effort and consistency over the years have finally paid off. An achievement that is going to be in the history books
