I am a gigantic Monster Hunter fan, I’ve been playing the series for decades. And I will never touch this mobile game, even if it cured cancer.
I feel the same, I just dont do mobile games no matter how much I love the series.

Heck I didn't even bother with Nier Reincarnation even tho I'm huge Nier/Drakengard fanboy.

Good for you, give yourself a pat on the back for sticking to your ideals.

That said, the game is super popular in Japan (the land of fake casual MonHun fans of course) so it ain't going anywhere.

Nier Reincarnation sucked so it was an easy skip. If it was actually good, you'd have been singing a different tune... but Taro's gacha games seem to always be subpar (to put it nicely).

ANYWAY I wasn't trying to derail the thread by posting the Wilds collaboration layered armor in here so let's just leave it at that. :)

I dont do mobile F2P gacha game regardless of quality this also why I dont play games like Genchin Impact or Wuthering Waves.

If the game doesn't let me play it completely offline then I wont buy it no matter what, simple as that.....this is why I love MH games, even tho it has online feature I can play the entire game solo and completely offline.

Did some math. Been about 11 days since release. So 264 hours and they have played 206. Leaving 58 hours for other things. Crazy.
Just pointing out that on PS5 the game seems to count hours in suspended mode as well.

When the game came out, on sunday morning my Pro showed that I played 40hrs, which was about the amount of time that passed since I had booted up the game for the first time.

Same, I love Nier , but I just couldn’t play the mobile game.

I’m actually not wholly against mobile games, I do play a few gachas, but monster hunter should NEVER be a game like this.

I do kind of like how hunting for crown monsters actually sort of feels like hunting. Riding around the map to scope out 5 or 6 monsters with the binoculars feels kind of right. And then it's awesome that when you fight one it automatically makes a quest, and then someone in your link party can simply join it.

What I need to test though is if creating an investigation of a monster saves the monster size... Would be fun to save crown monsters and run them SOS to spread the crown wealth lol

I feel like I'm missing something here, but can you not craft stuff mid-fight? Say I'm running out of Mega Potions, and I have regular Potions and honey in my inventory, is it not possible to make some more megas during battle?

It's probably obvious, but please explain!

thats the only hunting you gonna get in MHWilds :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Yes, you can save crown monsters as investigations.

Lol I know right, this game is so uneven... So much feels so good but then so much feels half baked or non existent.

And that's awesome to hear, and now makes me annoyed that I didn't just create an investigation for the mini crown monster that I found with 20 seconds left on the map and ran away before the mission popped...

If I shook my head any harder my neck would snap:

Talk about utterly clueless, no wonder the story and characters are trash, the producer thinks it's *good*! Literally one of the *worst* parts about Monster Hunter Wilds 🤦🏻‍♂️

Hit HR50, even the post game has been a relative cakewalk. Overall I've had a blast despite my criticisms but I'm nearing the point where maybe I've had my fill and it's time to move on, the game should have and could have been a lot more.

This is absolutely the wrong thing for them to take away from the games success. SMH.

The story follows a young man whose home is destroyed by a monster. Getting swept up in the events, he eventually meets a group of people that help him go from town to town seeking answers, with the looming threat of the monster growing every step of the way. The young man overcomes loss, grief, resentment, and eventually finds resolve. A colorful cast of memorable characters add depth and flavor to the journey.

That’s an overview of the story of Wilds.

It’s also describing Final Fantasy X.

It’s also the story of Final Fantasy VII.

It could also be applied to Breath of Fire.

Do you see what I’m getting at here? From a storytelling standpoint, this is a great setup.

Getting into the weeds of it, the story beats involving the Ancient Civilization and detailing the Forbidden Act- these are long standing MH lore beats. Capcom FINALLY addressed the Equal Dragon Weapon, a mythos that has been floating around for over 20 years.

While perhaps you don’t give a shit about the story because MH has always been unga bunga hit monster with sord for you, there always has been an overall setting and lore present. We just have only really gotten bits and pieces of it from quest descriptions and whatever events are happening right in front of us.

Story for me was 100% skip skip. Reminds of Phantasy Star Online the story "campaign" is throw away.
Honestly, I'm trying to give the story a chance but every time the kid speaks I want to skip and end up doing so. I'm at end of chapter 3 and can't really tell what's going on. Monsters destroying villages and stuff and need to die, but it's sad? Something like that.

They obviously have more data than we do, but even if you look at steam achievement percentages, you'll see that an unusually large percentage has finished the LR story. Even games known for their story show people not even finishing it, so there's definitely some truth to their findings.

Say what you want about story and their delivery, I do actually like the big mystery surrounding core story with the ancient civilizations and how they were cloning monsters and used them as weapons for war.

My issue is I wish they wouldn’t try to be “cinematic”, that type of approach doesn’t fit MH games.

Eh they just injected more Resident Evil into their games. They just can't help themselves. I'm not too deep in MH lore but the yolo Wyverian split is a bit much and reminiscent of Star Wars. Seems like Wyverians split up the same way the OG Force users split into Jedi and Sith.

The Nata stuff is in the long term inconsequential since the real meat of it lies in those Old Wyverians and you barely get anything out of the Old Lady who just is around to observe and say fuck all about what actually happened.

Here is the story. You hunt monsters and used them as weapons to fight the next monster. All this because the people are scared of/ don't like monsters. Since video games have game play that's really the reason I need to keep on keeping on.

I finally dragged my ass through chapter 1. I am actually honestly shocked how awful everything about this. I can not come up with one good thing to say about this game, besides the cutscenes look pretty.

I don't know how people do it, really. If this were my first entry into Monster Hunter I would've been done after half an hour. Everything I liked about Monster Hunter World (exploration, beautiful world, story that is very much cheesy af but not obnoxious) is missing here. For the life of me I can not understand anyone praising anything about this.

inb4 "it's only chapter1"; I know, I wouldn't usually post something like this that early, but this game really annoys the shit out of me like other games do rarely. Believe when I'm saying I am genuinely trying to somehow enjoy this.

It's so dreadfully clichéd and dull.

im loving the game but im getting really tired of the connection errors when i want to play with a buddy, i t always messes up in the middle of a fight randomly and it starts to piss me off real bad

Few things MH team refuses to change no matter how many successful games they create. Call Hunter rank something else like Hunter Level (HL) so its not confusing for new players. In the long term its not a big issue but would still be better to not have the same abbreviation denote two different things (Hunter rank and High rank). Next is searching for SoS missions. They refuse to put a refresh button on the results page if you didn't find anything interesting or listed missions are full. Player has to go back and search again. I do hope they put this QoL feature in. With how quickly the good missions with awards get full you are stuck going back and searching again and again.

They killed the feel of exploration and hunting, its more a Boss rush game now imo

I've only played Worlds before Wilds, but wasn't that basically a boss rush game as well?

That's what I felt was a bit offputting about World, the mission-based game design.
There already was barely any exploration and 'hunting' was just following those fireflies from 'lead' to 'lead', so they just streamlined that part and actually added some exploration in Wilds by making it more open-world (compared to World).

Just my two cents.

I think the story is over. I’m in “chapter 4” where I’m finally introduced to High Rank stuff.

Question. Is there a system in place like in World or Rise where I can have the game farm certain items for me automatically over time? I used to have them get me traps and tranquilizer materials.

The feel of exploration and hunting in World IS better, in World since u didnt had a mount you need to walk, and by walking you explored more, in order to find field camps, Palico gadgets, monsters "fluids" for investigations, everything made the feel of exploration and hunting better in World.

Like you said, "they streamlined that part" so the feel even If It was shalow is now lost, at least for me.

Honestly, by walking it just took more time to 'explore' the same amount as I do an my Seikret and the leads only added more. You were still following fireflies regardless.

And in World hunts and free roam were seperate 'missions', which was just a cumbersome design that wasted time, imo.🤷🏾‍♂️

Yes, you will unlock it very soon. Do the optional quests you will start getting to unlock more.

Monster Hunter has always been a boss rush game????

The only difference is now you aren't gathering berries or whatever first before you're allowed to fight the boss

The story railroad can get a little annoying if you want to get out there and explore right away but that's really an unrelated complaint

Monster Hunter has never tried to be Zelda. There needs to be a linear progression of difficulty to rank up. Exploration and open-world design are a contrast to that, so they did what they could to make it feel open world and alive, but it's still a linear game with a linear story and linear progression and probably always will be.

So maybe someone can help here I'm at the capture quest that seems to be still part of main missions even tho I hit the credits, it's capturing a yian kut ku... I capture it but it didn't count it said it was captured, I saved a clip of it and rewatched it and it didn't count. Is there something else I could be missing?

There is. And you are going to LOVE how convenient it is by talking to the farm management npc.

He just laid there and then got up and vanished. But this quest just been weird because there was no true tutorial so had been fiddling with it awhile now but thought I captured him and was done.
It didn't count because it wasn't the target, you can see the target yian kut ku on the bottom of your map, however you can actually reset the target by going back to your tent iirc, it will then retarget the one with the lowest health, otherwise always just fight the target in these specific (tutorial) quests.
