the Xbox One on Power Saver = 1 watts
the PS4 "turned off" = 0.5 watts

that difference is tiny, all I want is, as I said, a mode that cold boots the system when turned on and that also charges controllers... it's that easy.
and it seems the difference between one that doesn't do that and one that does is 0.5 watts

of course it will draw more power once you actually charge a controller but just being in a state where it can do that seems to not drastically up the power usage.

because see above
PS5 turned off is 0 watts lol

The only way to get that with XB1 is removing the plug from the energy.

BTW PS4 rest mode uses less energy than XB1 standby.

Only have USB power turned on, turn everything else (stay connected to net/keep apps suspended and stuff) off in the rest mode settings.

you are deliberately misunderstanding me, stop ok, just stop.

in case you are that thick: if you select "shut down" on your PS4 or hold the power button for 10 seconds the system will still use 0.5 watts vs. 1 watts if you have the Xbox One in power saver mode.
meanwhile the Xbox One leaves the USB ports active in order to deliver power through them if you want to charge a controller and the PS4 doesn't

I believe there are laws that protect against that sort of thing. That’s A) Unethical B) Corporate espionage, and probably more. Sure, it can be done, but the penalties if caught for those involved are pretty damn high.
Messing around and sharing secret info is illegal even if someone has access to competing products.

For example, some brokers sell products from competing companies though they will try to prevent that by working with one company per category but it’s no guarantee.

if a sales guy at a brokerage has access to products and prices to Cereal A and Cereal B, they can’t go telling the other company what the other guys info is.

And each sales person is supposed to be unbiased and represent both companies equally.

but that’s not to say they don’t have loose lips!

rest mode will fuck with your game performance in the long run. I always want my system to cold boot when I turn it on. power saver doesn't do that hence I don't use it.

Wth is going on with this controller charging talk. :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Who knows.

but seems like one guy is asking about charging and one of the resident anti-MS guys is trying to spin it about PS4 using less watts of power than Xbox One.

the same guy who was bashing SeX dimensions claiming it’s as big like a “massive PC tower”.

Let's see how football players are doing:

My favorite team Manchester United been in an xbox-sponsored video playing on xbox, probably that explains the shit situation the team has gone threw.

Other than that you barely see football starts playing on other than playstiation, let's say it's more of a "traditional" thing at this point, thanks to the long term partnership with the biggest sport event in the world, UEFA Champions League (since 1997)

If I were Sony, I would either buy the FIFA IP from EA or PES IP from Konami. The later seems much more easier.

Hahahaha. Ouya...

"Television Television Television Television Television"

"It has a touchpad! I mean, no other controller has that."
"Well... the new playstation controller has one..."

Julie Uhrman is the biggest moron, I really don't think she could have run that company into the ground any faster...

ask digital foundry who always cold boot their systems to avoid having inaccurate analysis because rest mode will fuck with performance.
Still millions of people doing suspend/restore on PS4 without any issue.
You wan to create an excuse.

Yeah but realistically does a 12 or even 13TF PS5 Pro look like that much of an upgrade over a 9.2TF PS5 (going with what we know so far)? That's not even a 2x increase, while PS4 Pro was a 2.3x increase over base PS4.

And even in that case you'd still be looking at a PS5 Pro with "negligible" advantage over XSX (when there have been people saying that 12TF XSX/11TF PS5 is negligible at best), while possibly costing $50 or $100 more. Or suppose the $450 BOM number is true; the only way you can build a 13TF/13+TF PS5 Pro on that BOM means sacrificing big on some other critical area, like storage or RAM.

And then you have the issue that if the $450 BOM is true but was just for base PS5, then you'd have a base PS5 pricing at $399 or $450, and a PS5 Pro at what? $500? When the BOM will likely be over $500 (as is rumored for XSX, ranging from $480 - $520)? Why price the Pro at only $50 over the base and eat into the cheaper unit's sales? Especially when Sony's own internal research showed that base PS4 sales were still magnitudes more than PS4 Pro's? Or else they sell PS5 at $399, but now they're losing $50 per unit sold and possibly selling fewer base PS5s due to a PS5 Pro that's only $100 more but could itself sell at only break-even or even at a loss itself? And wouldn't this type of pricing strategy run contrary to statements Jim Ryan has made in the past, and the apparent struggle behind-the-scenes on how to price the system(s) to either make profit or take a loss?

It just honestly makes no sense for Sony to do that. I don't even think it makes a lot of sense for MS to release Lockhart but at least in that case there's evidence pointing to it being a portable hybrid device (in the graphic mentioning that newly uncovered APU TDP-down is specifically listed which points to a device with some type of portable functionality i.e Switch). As-is, with what we know and what has data out there, base PS5 would be clocked lower (so not even hitting 9.2TF but quite lower than 9) to ease on the cooling and probably have other components removed or scaled back to go for $399 at profit, and the PS5 Pro would focus on pushing cooling and mounting the features and components to try going for a premium system for 13TF - 14TF, but that also pushes its BOM well north of $500 and, being the more expensive option by default, probably sold for profit at $600.

A $400 base PS5 (around probably 8.3-8.7TF), and a $600 PS5 Pro (let's say 13TF or 14TF), over a 5+ TF differential in favor of Pro, same day at launch. But then what do the yields look like? What's the split between the two? What's the distribution plan between the two over the many territories? And how does that fare for them vs. a $300/$350 Lockhart (2.xTF TDP-down, 3.96TF docked) hybrid and $500 XSX (12 or 12.xTF)? IMHO I think that gives MS an advantage, not just in pricing, but in system variety because one would be a hybrid (again, why would a Microsoft-related APU need to mention TDP-down and with the other specs listed in that leak if it isn't some kind of hybrid portable? Which would especially make sense for Asian markets? It's even possible this could be part of the partnership with Samsung, i.e licensing out the APU to manufacturing partners for their own products, chiefly Samsung. Speculation on my part). Meanwhile Sony would have a base PS5 lacking appeal to portable-orientated gamers, and priced higher, and a PS5 Pro potentially eating into the base system's market since the Day 1 hardcore/core early adopters will likely go for the power-focused option instead. And that depends on it they can even find a PS5 Pro depending on the split; if the split it too small then, by virtue of being "practically" unavailable you might as well say the PS5 Pro wouldn't exist!

Again, that could be Sony's plans but I think it would actually be a pretty big mistake. Save the Pro until 2 or 3 years post-launch, make it real mid-gen leap (18TF on a newer RDNA architecture, AND still coming in cheaper, around $399/$499) and simply focus on a single SKU base system for launch. It's worked well enough for them in the past. I think MS understands this, too, and a reason we haven't heard about Lockhart is because it's going to be a lot more than "just" a smaller, weaker XSX. In other words, it's probably a portable hybrid-like device, and might extend to that recently announced Samsung partnership.

I can understand what you mean here. How much more could go into a Pro. But what do you make of what VFXVeteran VFXVeteran said?

Sony are currently booking flights for people from PlayStation UK and Sony UK to go to California at the end of March, I would expect the announcement around then.

Without it going in to a “My uncle works at Nintendo“ type of story. I know someone who works Marketing/PR for Sony and PlayStation, they never get to go on business trips as they are one of the “underlings“ so the fact they are shipping people in means it’s - in their words - a big deal.

You don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to connect the dots.

He was the real deal. It was here we got the reveal month. I knew it but I so wanted it to be February. See you all 3-5 march ❤💯🔥🥇

those are the same millions of people that play on a Sony TV with no game mode and all film picture enhancements turned on at +200ms of input lag and think everything is dandy

it is a fact that rest mode does this and especially suspended games do this. there are even games that have massive issues using suspend mode. I can't remember what game it was but digital foundry reported massive issues (massive enough to explicitly talk about it in their video) with a game when using rest mode.

So, did I understood it correctly:

Famicom: Is off when it's turned off.

PS4: It's maybe off when it's off but only if you choose Option 1, but on option 2 it's also off but you can charge the controller and if you pull the plug it's also off but then it's really off...off!

Excuses and excuses....

But let I help you.

Go to [Settings] > [Power Save Settings] > [Set Functions Available in Standby Mode].
- Enable Supply Power to USB Ports.
- Disable Stay Connected to the Internet.
- Disable Keep Application Suspended.

Choose Rest Mode to turn off your PS4.

Voila you have the same option than Xbox One ;)
No suspended app to harm your "gaming performance".

BTW there is no game with suspended more issues anymore... even the online ones back to the home screen without issues now.

I am not using rest mode. again, cold boot or GTFO.
I even reboot my Switch at least once a week because I don't trust it running without issues with no reboot. and that system has no reported issues as far as I know, while the PS4 is proven to have performance issues if you have it in rest mode for too long.
every console in the last decade (almost 2 decades now) does this except sony consoles... why should I use dumb workarounds when every other manufacturer has no issue just having a cold boot mode with active USB ports?

You should remove your Xbox One from the wall plug because that is the only way to make a cold boot with it.

I can see it having some issues at launch with one game or another but after patched I don't see any game having issues with Rest Mode.
And not there is no fucking game performance lol

It’s amazing how EA’s sports games have skewed to FIFA. FIFA games selling around 20 million copies?

Madden sales = ?
NHL sales = super low

No more NBA, golf, nascar, baseball or boxing. And UFC only comes up every couple years.

I’ll add in that with quick start and resume enabled, on both consoles, I have had serious performance issues with several games sometimes when returning to them, however usually it’s resolved with a patch game side of things. That’s both systems.

It's not wrong. Outlets like IGN, Polygon, and hell even Digital Foundry were pushing the Xbox One over the PS4 at launch because they were coming off a very lucrative 360 generation. It wasn't until months after launch that they realized that the PS4 was running games at 1080p rather than 720p on the Xbox.

Hell it was IGN who famously said on a podcast that the human eye can't even see 1080p (now that idiot works for EA).

We're probably going to hit the peak at 16K that even from up close it's hard to notice anything more above that. 1080p is just ancient at this point, the tech industry should drop it and move on.

or you know, It could just have a cold boot option with active USB ports like every other system on the damn planet.

I don't want to play games that might have stutters and then always have that thought in my head that this might be due to rest mode (because it has been shown to have an impact)
always rebooting the PS4 when a game stutters a lot (which console games tend to do you know) is just not great is it?

That is not cold boot bro.
To make a cold boot you need all the components to be without energy for at least 10 seconds... if you have USB on you and in consequence others components receiving energy you don't have a cold boot.

What are you doing is a warm boot.

Maybe even 8k is the limit.

4k tv and games definitely are better than 1080p, but when 8k tv demos come out I have a feeling it’ll barely be better. 16k TVs are probably a 2025+ thing.

COLD BOOT = the system software boots without a previously saved state (be it saved in active RAM or on the hard drive). the system state is flushed and the system boots from a fresh state.
that is a cold boot. and yes it is.

Again wrong.

"Alternatively referred to as a cold start, hard boot, and hard start, cold boot is the process of powering on a computer from a powered-off state. For example, when you first turn your computer on after being off for the night you are cold booting the computer.

To perform a cold boot on a computer that is running press and hold down the power button. After continuing to hold the power button down, the computer will turn off after a few seconds. Once the computer is off, wait a few seconds before turning the computer back on."

"The opposite of cold booting is warm booting, which is restarting the computer that is on (is warm) without turning it off."

BTW the PS4 Rest Mode with Suspended apps disabled do that too.
You are using a Warm Boot thinking it is a Cold Boot in XB1 but you don't want to use the exactly same Warm Boot on PS4.

You are using excuses to try to create a point that doesn't exists.

Been playing Fifa since SEGA, then for some period shifted to Winning Eleven (PES) then both. But at home I never play them, only when we gather with friends and play them at our camp during monsoon season or in amusements or some restaurants that provide private rooms.

I remember a very interesting football game from a UK publisher? Eidos:

Back in the PS1 era we had much more publishers and game variety, I guess. I don't like FIFA games though, they are slower than real life! PES is much better but lacks licenses, so with Sony it should thrive.

I've only rarely used rest mode on PS4 mainly because of the problems I've heard people have had. On the X1X, I used instant on and eventually I got installation stopped message when I tried to install games/updates and eventually got E100 errors. I had to open the thing up and replace the hard drive. Now I use the fully shutdown option in the settings just to be safe. Seems like to be on the safe side you're better off fully shutting down both systems.

The PS4 rest mode does not boot the OS from a fresh state, it keeps the RAM active and boots from the last state the system was in.
all that turning suspended apps off is that the system closes the apps when putting it in Rest Mode.

Not if you turn off Suspended apps.
It not keep RAM active.

BTW suspended apps were added late... the Rest Mode didn't have this option at begining.
That is why with suspended apps off it uses way lower energy.
