My gripe with racing games is that they mostly feel to sterile, I did not enjoy Forza Motorsport or GT...ever. Despite I bought multiple installments. My choice is Forza Horizon, because it's the only racing game which brings me the feels™...

Read somewhere a quote from a professional driver that said "racing sims replicate all of the real stuff... except the fun part." but I think he was talking more about hardcore pure sims on PC than GT or Forza.

Horizon series has been one of my favorites too. It certainly left Need for Speed in the dust and Sony could learn a lot from its success (12+ million users).

I think Codemasters hit that sweet spot of fun in past titles, but now they are a bit lost. It's either too hardcore like Dirt Rally 2 or shameful piles without content like GRID 2019.

I need the Horizon series to find a way to do a dynamic replay. At least with their self made tracks. I can understand the difficulty with custom tracks. If Horizon had GTS level of replays it would truly be a sight to behold.

Forza is a far more enjoyable franchise, from the SIM that is Forza to the fun that is horizon.
Graphically the environments are better on Forza, but Poly sure have those car models down. The cars in GT are more realistic in my opinion.
Just imagine what their cars will look like with the PS 5 and Ray Tracing.

It became Project Cars.

Coincidentally Shift was the first game I can remember that had other vehicles reflected in real time in the paintwork of your own. Unless anyone knows an earlier example?

Dont have xbox so donno about Forza but SHIFT to my knowledge was the only racer when u had a hard crash the view becomes distorted and blurry for a bit which is such an awesome effect as its the closest to reality you can get.

Also going at high speeds, dirt would start showing up on the windshield and you could occasionally pick up a rock crack. Subtle but awesome details.

I know. I mentioned the fact that Sunhis gifs are doctored and I knew instantly that he would come through proclaiming how they are immaculate representations of the game in all its glory with all the hyperbole and thesauristic vocabulary

He's admitted to using after effects to alter GIFS .

It doesnt matter what he does, it's the fact he IS doing it. It renders the GIF not a true representation of the product that's in the average users hands. Changing one tiny thing is a misrepresentation and should not be allowed to be passed off as a comparison in this thread.

There are other tweets where he talks about changing the lighting etc (I'm not going to scour his twitter history) which is why when you're playing GTS at home it looks NOTHING like the GIFS he produces.

I don't know what you mean by "changing the lighting". You say it like he's rewriting the engine or adding GI via Reshade on PC. You can adjust colors, brightness, contrast, gamma, ... on your TV/display.
He is cherrypicking, staging and using replays. Gifs are low res, so bad AA is masked but doing a bug hunt on still shots is not a good representation of gameplay either. HQ videos are.
And btw gifs are 256 colors, so that isn't playing in his favor either.

I think he means altering gamma levels, brightness, HDR toning, contrast, highlights and shadowing etc.

While you can change some of this on a TV you can't do it to the degree possible in an editing suite, and you can't do it on a frame by frame pixel by pixel basis to get the exact result you set out for.

With editing software you can completely change the appearance of your source material, he's doing that.

Anyway, whatever... it's been a long time since I played FH3 and GT Sport too, but I think GT Sport is more recognizable just by the motion of the car.

A bit too dark but PCars2 looks the best to me in these.

They all have something over each other and they al look great to me, but ACC actually is the more technical impresive one. It has soo much more little details that you don't pick up at first glance, and the shot from the interior is really in a different league compared to the other 2. The rain is also physical like Driveclub, every drop hits the windshield and merges when the wiper connects them. And all the materials are self reflecting, like the roll cage, it is relfecting the meters and dashboard accuratly from the right angle in real time (look at the timer on the left and look at the metal tube above it)

Yeah i was disappointed too when i first launced it, such a downgrade from the 2015 edition. And the tod is not even dynamic anymore like Payback, atleast there they had a excuse to donwgrade a little bit.

in open world racing nothing cames close to FH3 ,4 parts. there are some parts that better in 3rd part i could say its sound of some cars are better in FH3 then 4, and just handling can be tricky and hard on some off road buggies on FH4 on high speeds . but visually you cant touch FH3,4 in open worls scale. you can find some better cockpits in tere then on GTS game. and lighting and shadow drops real time its another story too. on FH3,4 they real shadows in cockpit. not in GTS .
thats if you live in cockpit in those games. how else could you ?

The track on GTS is simply perfect, and all your (and of your friends) attempts to misrepresent the game are just pathetic




on FM 5/6/7 the track looks completely different from the real one (hills shape and position, trees position, a lot of non existing structures along the track, and a lot of other details). Probably it's not even laser scanned. Only a blind can't notice this

It doesn't make it look graphically worse because it's rescaled to a tiny image so any perceptible loss to IQ is eradicated. Also if you think for even a second that you can manipulate a video source with TV controls to the same degree that you can with a professional editing suite then I don't even know what to say to you.

You can't, I have an after effects license but there are no effects applied that you can't do with a TV if there are then point them out. Most of the difference is the limited colours due to gif compression. That doesn't make something look better it makes it look worse. It certainly doesn't make it look unrecognisable.

It’s awesome that GTS is getting support to this day and Laguna Secs looks quite nice. However, the comparisons here clearly show FM7 is much better IMO. Better textures, better shadows, better LOD, etc. I’m excited for the next versions on pS5 and Xbox series x. Should be phenomenal.

I generally agree with you regarding lighting. However, environmental reflections and shadows are not very great in GT Sport compared to others (e.g. Forza 7). Low resolution, lacking detail, and sometimes not reflecting parts of the environment at all.
