I see.

This fantasy is reinforced by high metascores and game awards.

It hasn’t taken hold by itself.

Yes it was a failure.

But at the end of the day, we have to look at the game itself, how it is to play currently.

Its a perfectly alright shooter with a good artstyle/atmosphere. Doesn’t do anything revolutionary.

Exactly like a lot of games on that list.
come on man Redfall is a piece of shit

lol sure, whatever revision of reality makes you happy.
redfall is among the biggest gaas failures of all time, that killed its studio. pretty much a total flop in every metric. gameplay, art style, user reception aaand reviews included.

btw. xbox is just another sony third party now. the list wars don't work anymore, get on with the times.

Switch 2 is going to have one hell of a gangbang session with MS and Sony when it releases. Hopefully it will be a wake up call, particularly to Sony. The success of the Switch was already proof that most gamers don’t give a fuck if they can’t see the pores on Mario’s nose. They just want to play fun games.

Yes Redfall was failure on release.

Its a competent shooter now.

Nothing wrong with that, just like Stellar Blade. Thats a competent hack and slash.

Neither is revolutionary.

Pretty much Fortnite, GTA Online and mobile games has killed this industry. The publishers and fucking investors see the $$$$ made from these and have been foaming at the mouth to duplicate it. But only a few will ever do that. It used to be about making games they wanted to make and hoped to make a profit. Expectations were in check. But then investors and high level CEO's wanted more and more and more.

It's all over for the industry for the most part.

PLEASE, for the love of fucking God, move the headquarters back to Japan, these California imbeciles will sink the company

It's not just the decisions based on what's fashionable this month, it's the woke bullshit, it's the arrogance combined with complete lack of forethought or logic, it's everything. Move the headquarters back, it's the only way to save the gaming division

So, we have ghost of Yotei and Wolverine coming....probably a Venom spin off. SSM are working on something. I cant think of any other studios who could release a game this gen. We will get the naught dog game..so I hope that is amazing.

Ive played and really enjoyed Demons souls, Returnal and Astro bot this gen from Sony.

None of these games inspire me into thinking that buying a PS5 is a good thing though personally, especially after the drama surrounding them.

Where as these did. Infact, I bought the PS5 for Demons souls

So to me, Sony really is going places I really don't care for in terms of output.

Seems more likely he was offered retirement instead of being fired, most of his greenlit stuff is being cancelled.
Oh yeah he wasn't fired at all. But it's just wild how he decided to call for a livestream push, and no long after left the company. It's like he steered a ship to hit land and evacuated, lol.

Sony fans, you should be seriously upset about this news, I cant even imagine excusing or defending this. Think about BluePoint... they had so much momentum. They made their mark with the Uncharted Collection and the Shadow of the Colossus remake, and then they really proved their talent with Demon’s Souls. Now, all of that momentum seems wasted on years of struggling with a fucking God of War GaaS project. Who knows how much employee turnover they’ve had during this time, and for those who stayed, imagine the hit to morale. This could damage the studio for years, maybe even permanently. It’s heartbreaking to see so much potential go to waste.

Sony should apologize to John Garvin and let him make Days Gone 2.
They/Hermen really should. Hermen allegedly rejected a DG sequel pitch due to the critical reception from the press, among other reasons. Think about it for a second. He listened to a bunch of biased ludicrous activism-driven gaming journos and took their drivel while ignoring the positive response from the gaming community.

Hermen needs a slap to the face.

sony fans (not fanboys) have been upset over the entire GaaS initiative.

The damage is already done. Let's see how Hermen tries to fix thi shit:

a) He will continue down the rabbit hole of insanity.
b) He can come to his senses.

🤔

Yes, I think many of us are not happy about this situation and what is essentially a lost generation for Sony first party

Bad Sony news with Bloomberg as source isn't news, they mostly made them up as part of their hit pieces. Barely qualify as 'unreliable rumor', take them with a grain of salt.

Bluepoint has been mentioned multiple times as support team, doesn't have the people needed to lead a AAA game (like a game director, or a full game design team) or people to work in a GaaS game (live ops team including server programmers, economy designers, etc). So they couldn't be in charge of a GaaS or a AAA. When recently listed their teams by groups, in addition to mention Bluepoint as support team classified SSM as SP studio, not as GaaS studio or mixed.

So if this GoW GaaS existed and Bluepoint worked on it as support team, the lead team wasn't SSM. And/or was just a pitch/in early preproduction because of the lack of staff needed, so wasn't a cancelled game.

Better wait for an official confirmation or (as Sony made multiple times with multiple Bloomber fake news) debunk. And well, cancelling games is a normal part of making games.

What a fantasy. They have been breaking sales numbers with GoWR, Spider-Man 2 or Helldivers 2 and winning a ton of awards, as an example this year with Astro Bot, Helldivers 2 or Stellar Blade. They also released many other great games like GT7, Ratchet, Returnal, HFW and so on. Plus has many more to come like Death Stranding 2 or Wolverine.

GOWR, HFW, and Spiderman 2 are all disappointments compared to their predecessors. Ratchet sucked. This game lineup is not very good compared to what they did in prior generations. I don't care about the sales numbers.

They didn't work for years on GoW GAAS though. They were support studio for Ragnarok through 2020-2022, they started to work on their own game in 2023.

They didn't start any own game because they don't have the people needed to do so, and because Sony said recently -again- that they are a support team. And that SSM isn't a GaaS studio, but instead a SP games one.

Singleplayer games don't sell anymore.

They do, as many people pointed out. But that's not even the point. The point of putting out high-quality exclusive SP games is not to sell lots of copies. That's nice of course, but the real point is to establish your brand as something special. Once you do that (as Sony did), you give people a strong reason to buy into your ecosystem. And once that happens, those people buy all their future games in your ecosystem - and you make 30% off everything they buy. That's where the real money is.

And that's where Sony fell down. They stopped investing in the SP games that established their brand and instead chased sales trends in a genre they had no experience in.

Pete Drucker, management guru, said a long time ago: focus on your strengths. Sony did the opposite. They focused on their weakness. And they had their SP teams focus on their weakness. They are now paying the price.

Yeah, this one really hurts. I love the games you mentioned, they did so well. Heck, Demons Souls was my reason to get PS5 at lauch. How to waste a studio 101. I'm still in disbelief, a God of War GaaS? Lmao.

Imagine if the resources they put into:
Concord
Bend live service
live service GOW
Factions 2
Destructions All-Stars
Twisted Metal Online

Went into games people wanted to play. Like, I know people brush off Concord like it only cost them $12 and six weeks to make, so who cares, and Factions 2 wasn't that big of a deal, but at some point you're talking about major, major, major resources all burned up with LITERALLY nothing to show for it. And come on, who is excited for Marathon, or Fairgame%, or Horizon...

Exactly. What a fucking waste of time and money.

Looking at Sony studios right now:

They are super lucky that Xbox has a bunch of idiots running the show and can't do anything to capitalize

Sony needs the same shock therapy they received from Xbox 360 in 2006-2009. Too bad MS is too incompetent to do something like that once more...

And those good studios will be punished (layoffs or even closures in extreme cases) for incompetence of few baboons at charge. And those idiots will still receive millions of dollars every year...

Worst gen ever when it comes to first-party output, no contest

Fire Hermen, fire the purple hairs and go back to making great single-player games you twats.

I'll certainly be buying Spider-Man 2 and TLOU Part II on PC later this year to support them in this dire time

God of War, Concord, etc. It wouldn't surprise me if they have sunk almost a billion dollars into this mess and Sony will be scrambling to find ways to make that money back.

Poor Bluepoint.

Being made to work on a live service God of War game NOBODY asked for.

My god, what the fuck are Sony smoking over there. Must be some good shit 😂

Two more nails in the GaaS-coffin, good. What worries me more is that Sony actually thought this was a good idea at some point. I guess the chase for the really big bucks can make you totally blind to the obvious.

We have had some great games so feels weird to say but this gen really feels like wasted potential and one of the worse gens.

I sold my PS5 after ff7 rebirth. Have not missed it at all. Was going to get the Pro until price reveal. More chance of me just updating my PC and maybe pick up a Switch 2 if the games look good.

When I originally heard Bluepoint was working on an original IP, I assumed they were doing something of their own - some original project they had always wanted to pursue. Sony had taken them off the leash of doing remakes of other people's creations and allowed them to spread their wings and create something they wanted to create.

But no. Sony just strapped them to a stupid GaaS project.

I mean why not God of War spin-off? Spider-Man spin-off or small project.?
Because it’s all repetitive, copy of a copy, Fortnite chasing drivel.

They should stick to what made them dominant in this space while spinning up the live service bullshit on the side.

They’ve done the exact opposite and changed their conveyor belts to make this dogshit and now they need to change the factories back again.

All wasted time, money and effort. Plain and simple.

Great, now cancel Fairgame$ and Marathon and we'll be set. Imagine having the studio that created Halo and using them to make a shitty GaaS game instead of a new Halo-esque game.

This is how you know that Sony doesnt give a shit about games at all. Multiple Gaas wont work at the same time since they eat into playerbase. So essentially sony was willing to send them all out to die just as long as 1 turned into fortnight. If sony falls at this point its deserved.

Textbook definition of throwing shit at the wall and hoping something sticks. Stinks of Ubisoft levels of desperation. You'd think a market leader like Sony would be more calculated.
