Reports about a supposed 1-million man army ready to take back the south have been doing the rounds but can’t avoid feeling doubtful about those.

There are reports of mass conscription taking place in the southern and western parts of Ukraine. I hope im wrong but it seems that Ukraine is going to be taking a page from Russia and sending untrained conscripts into battle.

That's not happening. They have nearly a million upcoming volunteers. They fully mobilized at the start of the war, and those folks are now coming online after training. They are being sent south for a major push declared by Zelinksy.

Im not sure about that, it seems that most of those might be conscripts and not volunteers especially as the war drags on. This article goes into more detail on that

You got "most" from that article alone let alone balanced against other sources?

The couple of frontline stories recounted does sound like there may be a few units that need better training. Maybe some investigation is necessary to find out how those happened. There is no way that is systemic or they couldn't hold like they have and adapt well with the new tech and strategy holding back an army that outmans and outguns them.

'
-All men between 18 and 60 are liable for military service and forbidden from leaving Ukraine under martial law imposed after Russia invaded five months ago.-
'
That's not news to anyone. The country is being invaded. They're always some people that don't get it.
The article is Sunday fluff with the cowardly and selfserving excuses framed as best as possible for deconstruction.
Hide behind a skirt. Hide behind money. Hide behind the what if. There was plenty of time to get training.

"
On Friday the defence minister said there were 950,000 people in the army, police and border guards.
"

Maybe recruiters and legislators got a bit to motivated to get to that million. Article does mention they backed off.

I believe that 950,000 is the total number of their armed forces (probably professional army + reserve forces + recently recruited from mobilization)

The "1mi army" is already engaged in combat in the east and i don't see this number being totally deployed at the southern offensive.

I probably should have included the entire paragraph from the article.

"
Before the war, Ukraine’s army had about 125,000 troops with another 102,000 as border guards or national guards.

They've fully mobilized, that means everyone eligible is required to apply and join the military as is reasonable. As a massive mobilization there will be gaps - not to mention Ukraine is doing this for a first time and has split training with Russian legacy arms and NATO weaponry.

It's not what Russia is doing. Russia hasn't fully mobilized, and is grabbing anyone they can from prisoners to homeless people and shoving a gun in their hand and pointing towards Ukraine. They don't care about the loses as long as they win - Ukraine cares cause if they win they still will need to have these same folks function in their society.

Conscription does not necessarily mean sending untrained people into battle.

And Ukraine would be insane to do so. Their Western powers might even be so incencsed by that, that they'd cut aid if they did. Not to mention that it would just be a waste of life. That's what they are fighting against.

Seems Kyselivka in Kherson is confirmed liberated. Also in Kherson an ammo dump in Nova Kharkova got blown up.

Big, if true. Kyselivka is the last major town before kherson - there's a tiny village and then kherson.

UA has told remaining residents to leave a few days ago. I think it's true that they've made it that far and will make it into the city at this point.

Considering Zelinksy saying out outloud they are pushing into the south gives me a sense that the lines are breaking for Russia in the south.

If they can make it across the river there - it's going to make life for Russia really complicated.

I've patiently waited months to see the liberation of Kherson. It's so close I can almost taste it.

ruzzian positions in my wife's occupied hometown in the South was hit hard by Ukrainians more or less for the first time during the war. Might be a precision strike on munition storage, idk. Terrifying but.., yeah.. hopefully ruzzians are eventually being pushed out from where they don't belong..

Edit: This is in Nova Kahovka, Kherson https://goo.gl/maps/LjAVxd1R7Ycm16wW8

One hell of a explosion. According to FIRMS it was a "recreation center" (probably filled with ammo.)

Love how people that laughed at trump in the comments are being commented on with LOL's and "this aged fine" remarks :D

Nothing underlines Germany’s stupidity more than this.

To be fair, it’s impossible to know if they’re laughing at the comment on their dependence on Russian energy or just laughing at the irony In him talking about them maintaining independence from an expansionist foreign power.

That said, the German leadership was crazy silly to put all their eggs in one basket…a basket held by Putin of all people.

I love how no one seems to give a shit that it fell off and about the driver. The NCO walking away seemed to see it start to fall off, think ' 'tiz fine' and then only look back again when he heard it hit the ground.

To be fair to the Germans, not something that comes easily to me, everyone in that room was only really there to laugh at Trump, no matter what he had to say.
The concern wasn't news either. It was a legit concern and one that had been raised before. And Trump does sound incredibly stupid and like he's reading something he doesn't understand. Like he's reading phoenetics of another language.
I like the look on that one guy when Trump successfully and quickly gets through the word "encroachment".

And nothing was done. German greens have been talking down nuclear energy for years and the fact this was said by a person they hate...it most likely made those morons doubledown. The whole way the visit was handled made me cringe at the time. Same with the NATO. He was right at that too. One may talk about how Trump is Putins bitch but for sure so are the morons at the other side too.

Spoiler alert: Germany's government is perfectly fine not being independent. They are corrupt beyond the core. Their anger toward Trump's comment wasn't because they think it isn't true, it was because their practice was being called out.

They gave Putin control over gas reserves on Germany. Who does that?

And how dumb do you have to be to make the guy everyone is laughing at look right?

Not dumb....just European Union arrogant. No matter how many times the Continental Europeans start up their industrial scale killing machines, they will always retain that snotty, superior attitude to anything Anglo Saxon, especially the US & UK.

WTF is wrong with this nutjob. Cryptochristian, benzo addict, insanely unhealthy meat only diet, and Russia lover. I know he has his following even on this forum but I don't get it.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ked-Ukraine-culture-wars-left-degenerate.html

He's a fucking idiot, adored by equally stupid people, who think he's some kind of genius because he has a couple of post graduate qualifications he earned in Canada. It's nice to see it when dickheads like him slip up, and say shit like this, because at least it shows those capable of some independent thought that he's not worth the adoration or attention.

He has a following largely because for quite a while he was (and to a degree maybe still is) one of the few people actually talking and listening to young men, and giving them advice (often common sense, but to people he helped they either didn't know or struggled to accept it).

I don't think he's a bad person, just mentally off the rails in many ways.

Those in power and with authority share a lot of the blame people like him are so popular. They neglected or,.worse, belittled significant parts of society, leaving them feeling helpless. And helpless people are very vulnerable.

Back on topic: It's the same arrogance, naïvity, vindiction, greed, and condescension that has partly allowed Russia to grow into the monster it is today. Putin offers 'solutions' to the helpless in Russia (that he is the source of much of that helplessness is all part of the plan).

Sorry to jave to tell you this, but it is attitudes like yours that are one of the main reasons people like him are so popular. And on a geopolitical scale, why people like Putler remain in power.

Yes many people are idiots. And something does need to be done. But calling them that to their faces almost never ends well for anyone.
