A picture is floating around on twitter of a Ukranian PoW's head on a spike in occupied Popasna. Truly sickening image that will stick with me for a while...Russia is pure evil.

Sad.

They have always felt suspicious to me.
Fuck them.
I suspect they got Wikileaks-ed. Remember how, prior to 2011, Wikileaks tended to be relatively balanced in the stuff they put out. Then suddenly only stuff which made the West look bad starting coming out from them. And later than that they started putting out stuff which was rather obviously sourced from Russian intel.

I think it's just plain naïve wokeness.

They've always been a bit odd anyway.

But even with "naïve wokeness" they must have known how this would be perceived. They basically encouraged indiscriminotive bombing by Russia because they published this.

I mean even if it 100% true and even if Ukraine is doing it on purpose the only thing that publishing this article accomplishes is letting Russia kill more civilians without consequences. Decision to publish this is truly baffling...

There is a more in depth article about it on their site https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/n...krainian-fighting-tactics-endanger-civilians/
They aren't necessarily wrong, but in war you don't always have the luxury to operate the way amnesty wants, when it could come at the expense of your forces.
I could definitely see Russians pointing to articles like this, saying it isn't their fault civilian targets are hit.

There are a worrying number of people in high positions in society who are not sold out to anyone, but are too far gone in their ideology. They believe that their stance is right and have blinkers on. The passion and charisma that drives their ideology is also what got them into those positions.

So, no. I don't think Agnès Callamard is sold out to the Russians. That Amnesty International have extensively reported on Russian war crimes is sign enough of that (Russia aren't subtle enough to both-sides it that much - their egos couldn't take it). But she is so lost in her ideology that she can't see things in context properly, nor the bigger picture and consequences of her words and actions.

It happens a lot in charity due to the passion and emotion that is involved. I've been around (though not really involved) charitable organisations quite a bit, and there are many such individuals. Some entire charities are rotten; others have just very much lost their way. The amount of donations that many receive that are then spent on administration and payroll is staggering. We're talking, like 50%.

In which case we can point them to one of the first lines of the article: Such violations in no way justify Russia’s indiscriminate attacks, which have killed and injured countless civilians.

The problem is that a lot of the damage has already been done by that. We should well know here that most people do not read further than the initial thing.

Nor does it change the fact that the report is rather empty evidence wise.

but...

Just for the context, here is chat with someone who worked on RT and their methods how to present the "truth" it's relevant here. And partly that's why the outrage:

Timestamped. And I don't give a fuck what you might think about the streamer, in this context is meaningless.

An article about the conditions in Kherson. Though, admittedly, it's by the Daily Mail, whose veracity has occasionally been debatable.

Well, there certainly do seem to have been multiple assassinations or assassination attempts in occupied territory (the mainstream news outlets are reporting on them).

Turkey and Russia are currently setting up so many deals and partnerships that aren't getting the media attention they should be getting. Really shows how Turkey is playing both sides for its own benefit, and could care less about Ukraine or the rest of Europe for that matter.

That's nothing new nor surprising. And I mean historically too. In both World Wars for example.

But at least Turkey are prepared to shoot down Russian jets should they stray.

New to turkey lol. Turkey basically is blackmailing the EU since forever.

They want stolen land or scorched earth as their losing coward General runs away to hide shouting "with honour, lads, with honour!". What a legacy.
Being Russian army anywhere in that region with that looming knowing this isn't going to be a deterrent can't feel good. They're considered dead already to their army.

With normal seasonal winds and drafts a significant amount ends up in central Russia while on the ground and water immediately too.

Can the Black Sea be sealed off permanently to keep contaminated water out of the Mediterranean?

It seems like the story is credible. What a fucking time to be alive…
Mja we in the Netherlands in the 80s when Chernobyl blew, where advised to not eat particular foods grown in own gardens, I was a kid, I remember this, spinach was one of them, my farther grew these. The wind came from Chernobyls direction. And the Netherlands is a long way to go.

So I hope not. Other than that we didn’t really felt it.. but imagine if this goes down for the Ukrainians..

I think the problem here is the potential for it to be much worse than Chernobyl...Chernobyl was one reactor going up, here there's the biggest plant in Europe, they could potentially blow all the reactors and any kind of mitigation efforts would be thwarted because it's currently an insane warzone.

Hopefully it's just all talk.

Mr. Community
The Ukrainian Stratcom Centre (they define themselves as The Centre for Strategic Communications and Information Security under the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine) has just announced on Twitter that the russian army has rigged with explosives the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the largest in Europe and one of the 10 largest in the world.

The only information available right now are what they divulged, so I am linking it:

edit: we have a thread dedicated to the situation of Ukrania, but due to the potential international effects of this I thought a new thread was necessary.

This is like Bond villain shit happening before our eyes.

I suspect they want leverage to threaten all of Europe/the world with. Backed into a corner, we do what they demand or else deal with the nuclear fallout.

In Glasgow every major airline has been low flying for the past five months. Few nights ago was looking out at the night sky and could see countless jets or planes flying above me in this new apparent restricted space, then I saw what I thought was a shooting star but probably light from some sort of training exercise. Anyone in UK seeing similar?

Regarding the power plant I think this has all been carefully planned out for months and no coincidence coming at the same China are encircling Taiwan. Pelosi knew it was only a matter of time and probably made no difference visiting or not, at least now can call them out and begin sanctions on them aswell.
