Stalker 2 is finally in our hands and after spending more than 100 hours with it, I'm ready to talk about how it lives up to the rest of its survival, horror, first person shooting predecessors, Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat. Is it even possible to deliver an accurate, modern romp through the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone? Well, it's time to find out on the #stalker #retrospective

I bought this one a week ago and after a couple of hours I decided to refund it and use the money on FF7 Rebirth and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

Aside for the fact that the "downgrade" from the early trailers is almost comical (and it's weird people didn't make more of a stink about it),
maybe I'll be back the day the y ACTUALLY patch in the features they promised before launch, rather than a vague "Some day, eventually").

I don't believe anything I see in trailers so wouldn't have made a stink personally.

People should never believe trailers, and no dev is exempt from this.

The game still looks amazing. It definitely has it's issues, but it's still one of my favorite games of the year despite literally having to use UE dev tools to progress through the entire last 1/3 of the game.

I'll reinstall this summer 🤔
I don't have time anymore to play every game 2 to 4 times after DLC and patches are released. If I play a game at all, I want the finished product. I hate knowing that after I have finished a game, more content comes out that I may miss out on because I played "too soon". Cyberpunk was one of the worst offenders in this regard. Even when they say they are done, they still add more shit, 4 years after release. Practically a live service game. I absolutely plan to play STALKER 2, just not yet.

It's a single player game. There's no need to rush just wait until the game is in a good state.

Was the AI patch to the taste of old Stalker veterans in the end?
I'm curious about this as well. I'm a long time Stalker fan, and I would like to do another play through (that I hopefully don't have to use UE tools to actually play) but I don't want to play through what I did before as it wasn't really up to par.

For those that have finished the game, I am at a mission named

Dangerous Liaisons

How close am I to the end of the game?

Bought the game at release, but started to play it only during christmas when they put out a few patches already. So cannot say how it was directly after release. But AI-wise its playable I would say. There were other things which annoyed me more....which I had to mod out in order to stay somewhat sane. :messenger_winking:

Before the patch the world was so empty it was unnerving. Nothing happened in between spawn points. Now it has working patrols and better spawns. There's room for improvement, especially for the offline A-Life, but it's good enough now... Certainly less annoying than Clear Sky lol

They should fix the soundscape - the sound of combat and monsters in the distance made the original Zone feel alive. It was just random noise but in conjuction with the offline A-Life it sold the illusion of a living world.

AI life fixes + flashlight now cast shadows (total 1700 fixes)

Tag, you're it.
Yeah I've waited too and it seems like it paid off. I will finish KCDII and then most likely launch this one.

Jumped back in for a couple hours after the patch while doing the second play through, still finding new locations throughout the world and stumbling across cool little details.

Ended up having to hide in a cave infested with Snorks while evading an emission, such atmosphere, much scared. Up to the swamp now.

Seems to be a common issue with all games these days. No attention to details. Looks pretty for screenshots, but is missing so many details compared to games 10 to 20 years ago. Yet hardly anybody seems to care. They just want to play the latest game and make excuses for all of the lack of physics, destructible environments, and NPC interactions. "Who cares? I am enjoying it!!!" "It looks amazing at 4k!!!" "But but 60 FPS!!!"

KCD2 is full of these type of details. In fact I am not sure I've seen a game with more details than that, notably regarding NPC behavior

Half (if not more) stuff in this video adds absolutely nothing to the game imho and I've played every single S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game. Like, yeah, NPCs don't pick up weapons from the ground and so what? What does it actually add to the game beyond some visual stuff? Who cares if weapons don't degrade when you fire at them? Seriously? What idiot will even do that in the game where there's lots of mods to, if not remove weapon degradation from the game, then at least significantly downgrade it cuz repairs cost USA's defense spending per year (obviously, I'm exaggerating, but to prove my point)? And what about collecting bodies in one place and then blowing them up with a grenade, just to check if they'll fly from the blast or not? Or who's in their right state of mind will throw bodies into the fire just to see if they'll burn or not? What kind of insane, morally and mentally unstable pos will do that? Who cares if after firing a rocket up, it doesn't fall down a few dozen meters from where you are? Who's ever going to see what mutants are doing with the dead bodies during normal playthrough at least once when you leave the area?

It doesn't mean that they shouldn't fix A-Life 2.0 and make it work but c'mon! I don't want to see half (if not more) of this BS in the game, which'll add absolutely nothing of substance, narrative and gameplay improvements to it whatsoever and won't make the game better.

Clear Sky was missing things from SoC (such as coherence or good missions lmao) and CoP was missing things from Clear Sky.
Personally I am still butt-blasted by the lack of dynamic smoke after Clear Sky.

I didn't say all games today. I haven't played KCD2, but I get the impression they did pay attention to the little details. I look forward to playing it one of these days. It is sad to see STALKER 2 is a downgrade in so many ways. I will grab it on sale some day.
