In one way, I'm glad we'll (probably) never see Sailor Saturn in Crystal. Can't handle seeing her all derpy and ruined tbh.

Just checked the manga.
The hungry Usagi scene doesn't seem to be there. Though she does eat one of Makoto's sandwiches.
Edit: Artemis is in Sailor V's profile in the manga as well.
He also participated in the fight against Zoisite.

Hotaru got shafted by Toei so hard in the 90s I would hate if she showed up here.

Also, worth nothing that Mamoru and Ami didn't participate in the battle in the comic.

Some of the animation looked weird, but I enjoyed the episode. I should probably head to bed now, since it's 6:34 AM here in Florida. >_>

Manga Saturn is best Saturn, the way the old anime handled her (and Pluto) was just a disgrace. The mere fact that Crystal follows the manga is already enough that Crystal Saturn will be miles ahead of the shadow that was the Saturn in the 90s.

Yeah Sailor Stars gave Saturn and Pluto some really shitty treatment.

Mamo-chan sniffing Usagi's towel is amusingly gross, since they're used in Japan to dry up excessive face/body sweat during hot summer days. Yummy~

I'd say they still got better treatment than Saturn and Pluto did.

I suppose that goes by the default since Uranus and Neptune reach the logical extension of their pragmatic extremism and killed both Saturn and Pluto in the name of the mission and the "greater good."

Its not just that. They just get more appearances in general. After the Nehelenia arc Hotaru ONLY shows up for the final battle, and gets killed straight away. She is the highlight of the Nehelenia arc though. She kicks ass with "Silence Wall," and "Silence Grave Suprise" in Stars best episode.

Sailor Moon Crystal Episode 7:

A pox on the people who thought this secluding process was a good idea as I had forgotten exactly what had happened in the previous episode. Anyway, as the title denotes we get the gist on Mamoru's backstory and motivations and from what I can tell they are pretty consistent with other versions of the story. Indeed the search for the McGuffin Crystal is heating up as The Big Bad awakens and I see this version is actually giving Queen Beryl her own motivations and backstory.
I find that amusing since as I recall the manga actually disposed of Beryl fairly quickly in favor of making Matalia the focus of things at late stages. Then again, Crystal is not exactly playing with full rules of the manga.

Anyway, one of the worst things the original series did in its first season was the mishandling of Sailor Venus, introducing her at a time when some major events were happening. Aside from telling the scouts where to go she quickly faded into the background and stayed in the background until the remembered to give her some semblance of her backstory many episodes later, and they even bungled that by having Usagi act way out of character. I truly do hope Crystal gives Minako a chance to shine and show people why she one of the more interesting sailor scouts.

Anywhoo, regarding the generals, I hope
when Mamoru turns evil he teams up with the Shitennou to fight the other girls. It still pains me that the first anime didn't have Mamoru team up with the Shitennou, but at least the PGSM special did
.

The music during Mamoru's flashback was really good I thought.

The Umino scene was the funniest scene of the entire show, plus Usagi stuffing her face. Love it. Mako-chan still best girl too.

Tuxedo Mask actually did some fighting in this episode? Wohoo! Shame that soon after that the fight is reduced to the romantic stuff ("I only wish for you Usako!", "Mamo-chan!").

Out of all generals thus far, Zoisite seems to be the most efficient one - both in planning on how to find the Silver Crystal and in fighting. And he doesn't even use Youmas (or was he using one in the previous episode?).

I like how battles are handled in Crystal. They are fast, dynamic and can be pretty brutal. A good change from the original anime, where they kept reusing same animations over and over again. Although that's the second time where other girls were quickly wiped out, which is disappointing.

Umino is creepy. During that scene when he appeared before girls he was more scary than all Youmas put together. Also, I noticed that his only role in the series is to spread news and rumors. He's barely a character here.

Luna appearing and talking to Usagi in the middle of the class was kind of reckless.

Ami's plan to do research on the Dark DVD that is obviously brainwashing its viewers: watch the DVD. Great plan, Ami.

I hate how everyone is so elongated, with long, thin limbs. All characters look like Bayonetta. :/

Minako's introduction, although quick, was fantastic.

The fact battles in crystal aren't just stock animation attacks with either a miss or hit animation makes crystal 10x as watchable even if the art is fugly.

So I'm watching the original along with Hulu for the first time which means I'm up to episode 42 I think? So it's not just me not paying attention, they actually did just completely forget to give us any backstory at all on Venus? I want to know why she's special, why she gets her own cat, how she became Sailor V, etc. they still haven't explained ANYTHING about her in the 90s show except she had someone she looked at as an older sister (after becoming Sailor Venus) and they both fell in love with a guy.

I think some of that will be coming down the pipeline, but I forget how much, and much of what is there was changed servery from her manga origins. One of the issues is Sailor V not only had her own manga but that was the prequel series to Sailor Moon. The original anime series tried to capture the tragic underpinnings that exists beneath the bubbly veneer. These are character traits that are rather central to her chracter and defines who she is in the manga series and there is some stuff I want to say but that might be spoiling things since Crystal is following the manga script.

BTW. Is the Sailor V manga worth reading? I remember seeing it a long time ago but I've never read it.

I enjoyed it, especially if you really want to see the Sailor V backstory in full. Only 2 volumes long!

I haven't seen the Sailor V episode in a while, but was there anything there that would indicate WHY they left it out in the dub? I can't think of a good reason, myself from what I remember of it.

As for the video place, rental places are still popular in Japan. Heck, lots of kid's shows never make it to actual video, and most people just rent them. One reason why raws for shows like Pokemon can be hard to find: unless there was a re-run of it on Pokemon Smash/Get TV, the ONLY place to obtain is is through rental places (and possibly them selling it). There's even a localish DVD Japanese rental place here, but in the US I'm not sure how well it would do in comparison to Japan...
Backstory on that, I guess :p Obviously in the manga they were on VHS.
