Silent Hill 2 |OT| You promised you'd take me there again someday...

Long time silent hill fan here (since ps1 in 99) I finally started my playthrough a couple of days ago.straight to hard combat and hard puzzles.i just got to meeting Maria.about 5 hours game time.

I'm enjoying it,but I still prefer the original.i miss the fixed camera angles☹️.

if my memory serves me right they cut a bit from the original where your in the apartments where Laura kicks the key from you when trying to reach it through the locked gate.when you go back to that locked gate later pyramid head is standing right there. That shit me up back in the day.

I finally finished the game. Got the water ending. What a special gaming moment this ended up being and especially so because I never expected it.

I'm unsure hoe to rate games like this. Is it perfect? No but it's still a masterpiece much like I consider something like Demon's Souls to be one. Does it have flaws? Absolutely but it's so much more than the sum of its pros and cons. Weird to say about a game so harrowing but I'll miss playing it and being in that world and I think I was stalling at the end knowing it'll be over.

I'm still amazed by Bloober here and wanna give them a standing ovation for stepping their game up to this degree.

The Real Silent Hill Returns/10

I would go so far as to say this'll be in my top-whatever list and absolutely is my favorite Silent Hill game.

Officially confirmed by a creative lead at Bloober.

James has been reliving Silent Hill 2's events for 2 decades.

I bet some saint of a modder out there will create a fixed-camera mod for this some day. Then the OG purists can be partially satiated.
The purists complaints aren’t the camera with this. While that would help its:

-With the camera shift you do miss elements of tension and focus
-Game is apparently very bloated compared to OG which is only 6 hours long
-Gameplay is floaty , and barebones
-Visual miss on character models
-Arguable censorship of pyramid head “rape” scene if you even want to call it that

—-

I think that’s the main complaints I’ve seen tossed out from people who prefer the original of which the only one I can see is it being bloated. If the original was 6 hours and you pad 7+ of nonsense then that’s an issue.

any word on pro patch? the console is out in 6 days and i stopped at the apartments knowing its going to run so much better in just a few short weeks when the pro drops (if they support it right away)
There’s code for PSSR it seems, so they’re working on it I’d guess.

I'm almost at the end and this game turned out MUCH better than I thought.....but I do agree that game goes little too long.

No matter how good the horror game is the longer it goes on the less scary it becomes because we get used to the tension and atmosphere.

Yeah, finished the game just now and Idk if it's hard difficulty or not, but there's just way too many combat encounters and I would prefered for them to be reduced by 20-25% at least throughout the game and not just in one particular area. Maybe they'll do something about it via patches cuz I've seen many people mentioning it.

All in all though, an absolutely amazing remake and for me personally - the absolute best game of this year and the best story-driven survival horror and survival horror in general since Silent Hill 3. No one expected anything even close from Bloober and they not only outdone themselves, but also the original game by a country mile in every possible aspect. The only thing that is missing is Born from a Wish and it'll be interesting to see what they'll do with it and if it'll actually happen.

As far as I know they are aware that there is a demand for Pro patch. They are doing something with the Pro. It's a bit strange, that the game didn't shipped with it in the first place.

PH does stand behind the gate before the rape scene. You cant miss him.

Time loop theory confirmed. Or at least in Bloober's version of the story. All those dead James look-alike bodies are other iterations of James. State of decay showing how old they might have been.
What about the leave ending though?

Nope. The original SH2 game came out over 2 decades ago so it's a 4th wall break kinda nod to the player

I think we movie-nerded out before and I meant to recommend this to you guys for SH2 inspiration:

Maybe I already mentioned it but this is a fucking absolute must as far as I'm concerned and I'm excited for you guys if you haven't seen it.
Watched this for the first time this year. Very cool to discover and watch a classic I'd never heard of before that deserves it's reputation.

First time I played, I thought prison was nightmare fuel.
It was fucking wild. I just got out of the labyrinth yesterday and holy shit @ the relief. The prison was by far the roughest part of the game so far.

The spider mannequins were the scariest shit. You could hear them clambering above you and knew they were there, but you couldn't see them and never knew when they would attack. The radio was constantly going off as you traversed the prison but half the time you couldn't see enemies because of all he darkness, verticality, and barred walls.

The breakers on timers as you tried to plan and sprint from point to point while clearing each jail cell?

The giant dark room with the weight puzzle that had some creature galloping around in the dark just out of your vision?

The prison break after you blew the breaker with the siren going off, monsters screaming in the dark, and red lighting change?

Holy shit. Butthole was clenched the whole god damn time. Even the labyrinth wasn't as bad as the prison. Now I'm at the hotel which I assume is smooth sailing compared to that.

Funnily enough the prison was my breaking point. And by that I mean the fear faded and I found myself getting tired of it all. Essentially:

28 hours and some change to 100% this on Steam. 2nd Playthrough was 6 hours. 9/10 IMO. I like this a lot and I would consider it a companion piece alongside the original/Director's Cut.
In the end, however, I still prefer the original for it's simplicity and being the reason the Remake exists in the first place.

Makes sense lmao, your brain just went "fuck this"

I got to that point at the end of the labyrinth when we had those three alarm arenas in a row. One was already a bit much. When the second time happened, I just went full RE4.

Getting tired of it all was a cycle for me. The first few encounters of any given enemy were unsettling and then the game throws 50-100 of them at you over the course of few hours and the creepiness turned to tedium. Those wall crawlers were probably the most unnerving of them all though.

I've missed NONE of the tension from the original in the remake. It's just as tense and scary (and I will add, Silent Hill 2 is in my top 10 games of all time). I actually feel like the over the shoulder perspective gives it an added layer of extra fear and tension! I love it!

Game is much larger compared to the original, but most of it is well done and very much welcomed in terms of greater knowledge of characters and the town.

Gameplay is on point. I think people seem to forget how the original played- it wasn't a great game in terms of gameplay! This is the 1 game where story is what you are really playing this game for, and Bloober nailed it whilst adding in more!

Everyone is going to have their points of view on each of the characters. I don't personally find them offensive but I do prefer the looks of the characters from the original game.

The creator of Pyramid Head actually said it wasn't a rape scene at all. Yes it is different to the original but not a deal breaker at all.

I realise this wasn't you saying this stuff but thought I'd respond to your post!!!

The sound design limits my sessions to 2 hours or less. It just cooks my nerves. In a good way I suppose. What you want out of a horror game. I think overall I prefer games like RE4 where I can become powerful enough to steamroll the horrors, but I'm glad I added the remake to my collection. I can see myself getting replays out of it during spooky season. It still has Blobber jank in the walking, collision, melee combat and camera movement, but overall they vastly exceeded expectations.

Let's be real. The guy who prefer the OG are retards.

You'd have to be one of those fart huffing dingle berries to think so.

I'm an old fart gamer, and SH2 is probably one of my most beloved games ever, and while I still remember the time playing it fondly, the remake is better.

It's not the game's fault if we can't be 12 (or whatever) again.

I saw it for the first time last year in the theater, went home and watched it again streaming the next day. Then again a month later. I feel like "hidden classics" rarely are truly this fantastic. It's an amazing film and checks every box that turns me on.

Fuck meeeee that prison level is so stressful.
Playing on hard, Just opened the last door (bird) I will resume tomorrow night.
Am I the only one who feels super tired after playing for like an hour and a half to 2 hours?
Loving it, but man it's scary as fuck and I've played the original several times.

In that Prison I felt the same way, I was always on edge on that section which will get you tired.

I actually took the battles down a notch. It's utter bullshit if you can't get through a battle without taking a hit. I'm enjoying it a lot more now.

I finally beat the game. I got the Maria ending.

Ngl, I'm pretty pissed at getting Maria first time through. I tried pretty fucking hard to get In Water following the old rules. Idk if they still apply. It didn't even read Mary's final letter. Legit robbed. Fuck Maria.

Anyway, NG+ time.

EDIT: Also, I got the trophy for beating the game in under 10 hours first run through. It took me 25. Wtf?

I thought Water ending is default ending, I didn't do much to get specific ending but I did got that Water ending.

So I'm looking through the requirements for the different endings. I did literally everything for In Water guessing except for picking the wrong stupid apple and going through the wrong door. So fkn lame if that's what got me Maria.

I did check on her once at the hospital and went back to her room in the labyrinth though. I had it in the back of my mind and kind of knew. Stupid of me. I also spent a lot of time with her out in Silent Hill but that was just exploring and trying to see all the game has to offer. I guess it was my fault. Maria was one of the hardest endings to get in the OG so I didn't think I'd pop it first run.

I wonder if I'll get In water if I reload and do the right egg/apple.
